it was justified.. the gars was clearly emotional for not getting the award. He could have done a more playful reponses like: "Learn from the best" and insert some sarcastic gif or something. You simply dont say those things to people you dont know (even if you know them) cauze you never what someone is going though
It's pretty standard to get a ban for telling someone to off themselves. It's a hard line that X keeps. The mods have too much on their plate to go sifting through context.

He could have easily reply with "Imagine being so irrelevant that your losing to that 40 year old" or something stupid like that. Use the joke as a setup and turn it on him.
