  • In this episode of A Reason for Hope Podcast, our conversation is with Sister Miriam James Heidland, SOLT - a popular speaker and religious sister of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity. Sister Miriam is known for her powerful witness and profound wisdom. She can be found speaking internationally at conferences and retreats, working with the John Paul II Healing Center, and co-hosting the popular podcast Abiding Together. We discuss how God delights in bringing us to wholeness, how shame often moves us to believe the lies that we are worthless and unlovable, and how God desires to begin a lifelong process of healing and restoration with us so we can live life fully and in freedom. Finally, we will look at how common religious phrases like "God loves you just the way you are'' and "God meets you where you're at" should be properly understood.

Being touched by Jesus doesn't mean my wounds are removed as if they never existed. However, encountering Jesus is to be assured that our value and self respect aren't defined by the sins inflicted on us. I am starting to respond to my hurtful memories differently, and it is liberating to realise that as hurtful as those memories are, I don't have to continue to be shackled by shame, guilt and resentment. I am loved and forgiven, and to experience the greatest love of all loves is a blessing destined for me before the beginning of the world.

Wow, the initial questions were aggressive and shadow talking.

I know that a daily supplication for inner healing over 10 years would produce very little change. If Christ walked the Earth, and I (and Sr. Miriam) could touch his garment, then he'd have no choice but to offer integral healing. I'd be made as new, as if no one had ever said a negative word to me or about me. The heaviness would lift instantly. So would hers.
10 000 prayers don't have the 1/1000th effect that touching his garment and forcing that healing from him would have. Christ now is the pump that you activate at a dry well hoping for the tiniest amount of water to come up. Stingy. Imagine if God cared about our happiness 1/1 000 000 000th of the way he cares about his glory. We'd all be walking around with a smile on our face, being exuberantly happy.
