Vathapi is a composition based on Raag Hamsadhwani.. Any composition in this raag will sound the same.
@@estarat : umm… no. The aarohanam and avarohanam indeed will be the same but the tune may not necessarily sound the same. Doing any kalpana swarams based on the raagam would make it sound different. In this rendition, almost the entire song sounds very similar to Vathapi Ganapathim hence, my comment. :)

It's Hamsadhwani raaga. Vatapi ganapatim is made out of this raaga, so when the raaga is played it sounds like Vatapi Ganapatim, but its not that exactly being played.
Yes..Vatapi Ganpatiam is Carnetic bandish but Laagi Lagan is a North indian bandish...
