Any old school footage of CF is gold! One of the most important figures in surfing history. I grew up and surfed in the 90's so i know what i'm talikng about.
Absolutely agree! The corporate surf industry has made everyone conform to a certain look or image. Now every up and coming talent has a surf coach and is forced to surf a certain way to get to WSL. The culture of surfing has been bought and sold. There is no more individualism allowed. It doesn’t pay.
'Hell, most pros can't do them now. In all sports, some of the best players of their respected fields are not professionals. It's like that sometimes. CF was a little of both. Less pro though.
Caraca, surfo desde os 9 anos . Comecei em 1989 e via os videos desse cara desde muleke, depois via Mat Archibold, e martin Poter. Pqp , que saudade. Tom Currem. Tom Carrol, Derick Ho, Like Egan e muitos outros. Saudades. Obrigado Obriga
My intro to him was on Surfer Magazine’s ESPN show in 1987. Video montage of him surfing with Bop til you drop playing in the background. I will never forget that. Unreal.
Dude is the one of most inventive surfer who will ever live, just like Buttons , 10 years before their time. God bless brother, from a mid seventies surfer who got watch it all happen, stay safe!
In 1988 I was messing with Ollie's on shortboards. I felt the pop, it was fun. Some stupid ignorants at the lineup yelled at me and said: This ain't skateboarding.
Christian Fletcher is one the most important and influential surfers of all time!!!! And then Nathan and the freestyle Motocross were brand new as well!!!! That family's DNA is of pure energy and I wish some that energy to all, because to fully have what they all have, man...that's just DNA!! Can't be copied!! Yeah Brother Christian and Nathan!! Seen you guys late 80's in San Clemente just blowing minds!! CHAAAA ‼️ ⚡️
Best time ever, and thanks to Christian and this movie I have 30 stitches in my head hahahhaha.( I used to try go high and land one day you pay a little price to Neptune for having so much fun) 🤟 Oss great times
My first board was a fletcher I bought for $75 bucks, I was just a poser, but loved that board! Long story short, it got stolen or I would of made pro! Yeah Right!
I used to think that interview he did with Occy saying no one on tour currently pushed air since him since he’s done virtually everything theyre doing, only he did it 3-4 decades ago. I thought he was being fucking delusional. But he’s not wrong, this video alone has him showcasing virtually/almost every air pros and top guys are doing in edits/Instagram posts/comps today (minus backflips, and 720s, and superman’s jordy did about 10 years ago) I give today’s generation credit for their athleticism to do their airs and land them almost on command and during short heats, and they do it with more polish, maybe thats what they have over Christian. But christian was able to do this on boards that were a lot less well-built for good drive and proper pop and he was literally the only one doing them and his airs still hold after 30-40 years. Tells you how good he was and how good his surfing still stacks up to modern scene filled with rich pros who been training and surfing as groms for like 6-7 hours a day off mommy and daddy’s dime working on moves christian pioneered decades before.
Great surfing. Love the straight airs, creative grabs, and even the punk rock snaps. Would love to see someone in the WSL do like a monster method air or something and the watch the outrage as it only gets a 6.41.
i spent a year in san clemente in ‘89 & ‘90. i was blown away by the quality of surfing. i remember watching Christian, Archibald, and Andino just on fire during a big swell at T Street. some of the most exciting surfing I’ve ever seen in person…kinda intimidating trying to paddle out with those dudes in the line up, so i just stayed out ov ghe water and watched and im glad i did. then i move up to sanra cruz and was there when mavs broke to the public and that was pretty cool, though pound for pound I think provably san clemente has the best surfers in the world…but what dini know?
Christian was doing airs in 89 the people are still not doing to this day people like Medina Julian Jon Jon you think they would have caught on two doing Judo airs stalefish airs mute airs lean airs. So many different types of Aerials and they're still not doing them it just really pisses me off that Christian is not getting the credit he deserves
92672 The real San Clemente! CF wrote the book and paved the way for us all. The first true Aviator! Lived in San Clemente for 3 years before I move to Haleiwa Town. San Clemente was so bad ass. The Pier close out barrels, T street, the SC camp ground, San O trail 1 on a big hurricane swell empty outside reef break. Fred's Market! San Clemente is a true gift from God!
Had to think a good while before I suddenly knew where I had heard it. It was back in the 90's and it's not on shazam or spotify. But it is on youtube! th-cam.com/video/ruTjdFqrag4/w-d-xo.html
CF and Archy were landing them regularly along with Santa Barbara madman Davey Smith in the mid 80's and a couple Oxnard guys like Dougal Freeman (RIP), Jeff Burke and Brian Dugas. This is like from 85 on.
@MiC-T I'm biased because I don't like Pottz. Christian was LOBBING gigantic airs in the late 80's... It was 10 years before everyone else made it routine. I've surfed with Christian at Trestles, Rocky Point, and Pipe. I also picked him up hitch hiking. One of the nicest pros you'll meet. I pick Davey Miller up, too. He's unique. He paints as well as he surfs. I have nothing nice to say about Pottz.
mean i always like the old stuff, lilke ' follow the sun' that movie was the shit! back then. i love that surf flick. they should play it. i got super pumped!
I surfed with C.F. at Trestles, Rocky Point and Pipe. I picked him up hitch hiking on the North Shore. He gave me a bag of shrooms.
That's awesome
Fletcher was 20yrs ahead of everyone doing airs. Judges didn’t even know how to score the moves he was doing.
Any old school footage of CF is gold!
One of the most important figures in surfing history. I grew up and surfed in the 90's so i know what i'm talikng about.
I miss the late 80 early 90s the energy the attitude the music so much fun no political correctness pure punk

Christian Fletcher was so ahead of his time. He was doing tricks back then that the best surfers on the tour cant do.
'Hell, most pros can't do them now. In all sports, some of the best players of their respected fields are not professionals. It's like that sometimes. CF was a little of both. Less pro though.
Most underrated unknown innovator of our generation. Everyone was 6 yrs behind him....if you were lucky
Glad to say Fletcher was the shit when i was a grom in the 80s. Total madman in the water.. most radical of all time.

Foi o mais Hardcore dos anos 80 e 90 junto com o Arch 🤙🏽
I forgot to say we never should forget Justin Roperson. He was doing airs at pipeline on boards that Jerry Lopez shaped
Didn't he pass away coming home from Vegas? I remember him. Agreed.

CF is the Hendrix of surfing
Boom. Nailed it.
i could endlessly get stoked off watching this!
I only dreamed of surfing in this era and FK man CF was the blueprint. Thanks for inspiring.

This type of music is vastly superior to the effeminate type of music in a lot of contemporary surfing videos
honored to be 1,000th like to this treasure
My first board was a fletcher I bought for $75 bucks, I was just a poser, but loved that board! Long story short, it got stolen or I would of made pro! Yeah Right!
Childhood hero! Hope to run into CF in Asia one day before I die!

Fletcher is straight crazy, haha! I think more amazing then his surfing was his ability to kick meth. There are few that come back as he has
Dave Studdaman couldnt agree more, i've heard all he drinks are cokes all day and night now lol

Just wondering, was Cristian doing airs before Martin potter was ??
Martin was doing what Tony described as a big "dismount". Occi was tho only other landing big air.

Archy was too...
I never saw him in person.
He expressed and executed all his moves suckaa
The Brazilians get way overscrored for doing the SAME OLD 2" air reverse. It's really annoying. Medina is the only one that gets alot of air.
Regardless. One good roundhouse cutback = the man .
wow 2:17
