Maybe Nintendo should have made this game free and even put Waluigi as a playable character. Anyway, I had a ton of fun with this game. After all, games are really meant to be fun and enjoyable.
I really don't mind paying for mobile games, but $10 for THIS? It's not bad, but's not good either. Plus, it's extremely short. I bet they put it together in just a few months if not less. The best way to fix it is to split the game up into demo/lite version and the paid version (like Geometry Dash did for example), adjust the price and add more content to the full version. The second option would be getting rid of the pricetag completely, sprinkling the game with some ads (unskippable 30-second ads would be a bad idea though) and adding a $1-$3 microtrasaction that would remove them.
Honestly I feel like what killed it aside from the $10 price tag is that it still required internet I get it to avoid “piracy” but still for the base game it should’ve been internet free and even with Mario Kart Tour I stopped playing it bc it still needed to be internet to be playing this also pissed me off with the Sonic The Hedgehog mobile ports too
The game becomes worth the 10 dollars if you try to get all the pink, purple and black coins. Triples the amount of stages and increases the difficulty. (Especially with those bloody black coins.) Some people may not be interested in it though or feel it's doesn't add much to the game but I feel it does. There's also the online mode and Remix 10 with Daisy to increases it's worth though that last thing wasn't in till after release.
No, I got the game and went for all of the black coins and unlockable stages. It took me a while to do it. I'd have to agree, if you're a completionist and a big Nintendo fan, the game is actually worth the money... kind of. Not the best mobile game I've ever played, but certainly not the worst. And it killed a lot of my time when travelling or waiting for stuff while trying to get those black coins.

They didn't want a codebase they couldn't control in their product. Which is much more understandable. As for the $10 price tag to open the full game, it's exactly that; the FULL game. My only rant with the game is the Internet thing. Paying for a mobile game isn't something new. Games like Rayman, Minecraft and Plants vs Zombies do it and they are really good. Also, advertisement in mobile games can be REALLY annoying and can get out of control. Finally, various "free" games usually take a lot of attention to progress because you either need to win 100 times to get a gem out of 50 you need to advance, or pay twice the price of a retail game to unlock everything the game has to offer. I think the game is mostly replayable and enjoyable, but the true annoyance is the Internet connection.
Things that could possibly make Super Mario Run a better game. 1. Beach theme 2. At least lower the price ( maybe $5) 3. Able to play offline 4. More levels (World 7 or 8) 5. Volcano theme as the final boss 6. Underwater theme?? 7. Wario & waluigi playable 8. More powerups ( Fire flower, ice flower, acorn, ) 9. Replace bubbles with one up mushrooms 10. Snow theme!!
This game actually closest represents New Super Luigi U. Because of the way doors look, the background music, the bg looking like Acorn Plains, and raising your own flag when taking down Bowser's, we know that it came from the Wii U games. Then, because the timer is always under 100 seconds, it is closest to New Super Luigi U. The one thing missing is Nabbit.
Mario Run is for very particular people. If you enjoy replaying the levels to 100% it and get all the characters, this game has hours and hours of content. I do agree that the $10 thing was a flaw. What they should have done is made it so if you don't pay, you get to play all the worlds, but only as Mario and no coins or other characters, in remix 10 you couldn't get the prizes at the end of the levels and you could only get red toads in the Toad Rally. Most of all, they should've made at least 2 more worlds, more bosses and CHANGED THE PRICE TO $5, along with making it aware to people straight away that you have to pay ton get the full experience, while the casuals get the downgraded version and maybe ads.
Christian Lynch I agree with pretty much everything except the $5 price tag. $10 is perfectly justified. The mobile market is just full of cheapskates.
I can tell apart Wii and U, because I recognize the stages. However, they do use the same internal engine, which is why both games have cut content that only appear in the other game.
Maybe Nintendo should partner up with niantic again, you know the creators of pokemon go. They could make a Mario party mobile game, where you have to walk in the real world and play minigames against others around you...
For me, Super Mario Run is one of best games I’ve ever played on the iPad. I think the ten dollars were completely worth it, since collecting all the star coins gives the game massive replayablity and length. I mean, the level changes slightly for every color of star coins, and the toad rally is super fun!
Sean Wootton maybe a 1.99 to remove ads? hey Sega does it worse, you pay to remove ads but it only removes third party ads Sega ads still pop up in there "Sega classics" on mobiles.
@@Sixty4Horses Many games such as Crazy Taxi simply dont allow offline play because they cant load the ad system. I dont know if paying for the ad free experience it is lifted. Pac Man allow offline play, you just cant use the maze store.
Jeff Sousa Yeah I know, works for most indie games which don’t require a WIFI connection. Just thought I’d say because in some cases it can be quite helpful.
I am an avid mobile gamer and Nintendo fan and I know why Mario run was developed like this and do not see a problem. The cost is because Nintendo has integrity, they do not want ads and they don’t want pesky micro transactions. Most mobile gamers would also agree that cellular data is a thing and that needing WiFi is not much of a problem especially considering there is more to do with competitive online play once you have beaten the main 6 worlds. I don’t think Nintendo planned on this being a time waster and rather I real mobile game experience that people could play with their friends online more like clash of clans or Clash Royale rather than a game like flappy bird. Sorry for the ranty feeling, love your vids.
krishnugget Use your data. Who the heck doesn’t have unlimited data in today’s world? Get with the times or be left behind 🤷♀️ (I mean unless you live in a third world country. But you probably don’t even have a phone there, so it’s not like you have that problem)
Omg you have to do more of these Maybeeeee why Amiibo failed? Edit: Guys I was meaning it in a parody not a seirious vidio cuz Amiibo is awesome thanks for the people that understood
Actually I CAN tell them apart. The DS Version is on the top left, Wii Version is on the top right, Wii U Version is on the bottom left, and the 3DS Version is on the bottom right. Just thought I would let you know...
The reason Mario Run failed was too big expectations and too great of an investment in its production. The game grossed $60 million, which is a healthy sum for a mobile game, but ended up making a loss because it cost so much to develop. You can't develop mobile games like you do console games, I guess Nintendo learned that the hard way And the 5% of people who paid for it isn't some spectacularly bad percentage, most popular mobile games have lower percentage than that
WoW you really splurged that money! You really are on the way to financial ruin. I hope you recover one day from this flagrant expenditure! (sarcasm: in case you didn't notice)
They had a sale for the game like last year where it only cost $5. That's when I decided to pick it up. There's a thing in our head where seeing that extra digit or really anything over $5 is enough for us to think it's not worth the money. That may be 100% true and that may have killed it because I thought it was worth the $5 I paid for it.
It's extremely sad to see that this game had failed. It is actually fun like those good old Mario flash games. I've even 100% completed it as well. I bet most of the gamers only wanted the hardcore 4K graphics and power kind of games nowadays. That could also be why such real awesome games (like Epic Battle Fantasy 4, Bullet Heaven 2 and Touhou Genso Wanderer) are not as popular. *headpats Nicobbq*
New Super Mario Bros. U > Super Mario Run Sure New Super Mario Bros. U isn’t as good as the other New Super Mario Bros. games, but at least it’s not as short as Super Mario Run and it doesn’t require Online to play the full game.
marco paolucci Actually yeah it is. DS was fully unique. Wii was tweaked, upped graphics, and changed some things. 3DS was copy paste Wii and Wii U was Wii with upped graphics and some new art.
Wait it failed? I remember it being popular for like a month. Than it was kinda forgotten... Ok I see what u mean now Also, What do people expect? It’s Nintendo. Their charging almost 100 bucks for a game now. So...
I agree. Between-level ads (those where you just have to tap or skippable 15+sec/non-skippable 6-sec ads, not non-skippable 30-sec ads) and small microtransactions to bypass them would be a good idea. However, ironically, many other mobile games literally tell you that no ads are available.
it is not a 1 hour game , sure u can , well RUN through it in one hour but that is not the correct way to play it, the real goal is to gather all 15 special coins on each stage , the last black coins are very tought to get , but also very fun , doing that will take some serious gameplay hours ..having said that I must agree that 10$ is too epxensive for this game , what they should do is lower the price to 2.99$ , that would dramaticly increase the buyer base
I own the game. I think the price would be fair if it had a level builder like Mario Maker. An online community making run levels would compensate for all the "flaws".
It failed because oh I don't know... because YOU CAN'T PLAY ON ROOTED PHONES!!!, most characters are literal clones, it costs $10 for a mobile game($5 is okay), we can't play as Waluigi, Wario, or Rosalina, It's way too easy, there's little replay value, and also...It's a mobile game that is wifi only, and you can't even play the tour offline.
He said that this game has various characters, but Nintendos lazy ass added like 5 Yoshis instead of adding other types of characters like Rosalina or other characters
Mario kart 7: has no vs mode Everyone dissapionted Mario kart 8: I have coins and battle TRACKS and needed a deluxe version to fix myself Mario kart tour: allow me to introduce myself
I understand that everyone hates it because of its price, but he went through prices of a couple games and they are 80$ vs this 10$ game. Like what do you expect? All of their games are overpriced (except for like a couple)
It's a mobile game. And not even a proper game, it's just a spin-off. The mobile market has wayyy cheaper prices, so people turned away after seeing it. (The maximum people would pay is usually $5 on mobile.)
2:21 the top left is new super Mario bros ds Top right new super Mario bros Wii Bottom left new super Mario bros Wii u Bottom right new super Mario bros 2
just another commenter yeah I'm excited for that. I honestly hope it has the same pay-to-play system as Mario Run since I'd rather pay once and never have ads or microtransactions. Those cheapskates didn't wanna part with their precious $10 for Mario Run though, so MK tour is probably just gonna be another Pocket Camp. Not like I can blame Nintendo though. In a market as cancerous as mobile gaming, there isn't much you can do.
eh... alot of people calling it an easy or short game just havent explored it enough. i bought the full version and never got bored of it. theres always replayability in the form of the pink, purple, and black coins, and theres 2 other gamemodes, which are toad rally, and remix 10. before i had to switch from an iphone (where i had the game) to an android, i had collected all of the pink, most of the purple, and even some of the black coins. Theres so many more features than just the base levels. if anything, the levels are an extended tutorial for what was to come. while others, even miyamoto, call it a faliure, i personally enjoyed the game and what it had to offer.
You can actually do a lot without s pending 10$ 1-You can collect all Pink, Purple and Black Coins in 4 courses 2-Unlock Characters: Toad Blue Yoshi Daisy 3-Complete 30 levels in Remix 10 and unlock Daisy bt doing that 4-Brought your castle to MAX level And i think that's it
I agree about the "always online" requirement wrecking this game. I was happy with the price (I never bother with freemium games but maybe I'm the minority) and was actually pretty happy with the game play. But I bought this game to play on my long train commutes. The journey has plenty of black spots, with one section having no reception at all. I fired up the game, got the "not online" error message and never played it again. I completely understand an Internet connection is required for online play, but this was the single player campaign. If Nintendo were ever to make another iOS game, I doubt I'd trust them again.
Mario Run could be hard and could get annoying when it taunts you with the $10 pay wall but the most mildly infuriating thing was it requires internet.I mean I totally understand toad rally but why the tour or remix 10?
It's a really fun game, but so much is locked behind that $10. Most notably, you can't get all the different toad colors, meaning you can only get 2 of the special items, which are the only way to get tickets to play games :(
the problem of this game, its tooooo expensive. in some countries, where average game costs 1$ in itunes, and like 3$-5$ for some big titles, and only titles like gta close to 10$, this game managed to hit even higher price (around 11$-12$)
Hope you enjoyed this new vid! Be sure to *leave a like* to tell me you enjoyed it!

Christian Lynch I am the Ultimate lifeform

I can tell apart Wii and U, because I recognize the stages. However, they do use the same internal engine, which is why both games have cut content that only appear in the other game.
Why it failed: it's an autorunner. They could have easily added "tap on the left or right side to run" mechanics but they didn't.
Maybe Nintendo should partner up with niantic again, you know the creators of pokemon go. They could make a Mario party mobile game, where you have to walk in the real world and play minigames against others around you...
Great Idea!!!
Mr.E so many things would go wrong with that

For me, Super Mario Run is one of best games I’ve ever played on the iPad. I think the ten dollars were completely worth it, since collecting all the star coins gives the game massive replayablity and length. I mean, the level changes slightly for every color of star coins, and the toad rally is super fun!
I rather pay than watching stupid ads, Ads are really annoying for me. >_<
+ I forgot mario Kart tour is a thing & not looking forward on this.
Sean Wootton
maybe a 1.99 to remove ads?
hey Sega does it worse, you pay to remove ads but it only removes third party ads Sega ads still pop up in there "Sega classics" on mobiles.
Sean Wootton if you turn aeroplane mode and restart the game, you shouldn’t get any ads
Nentendo got rid of Miitomo.
Do they understand mobile games?
holy crap, I completely forgot that existed. I downloaded it and used it for a week and deleted it when I hadn't used it for a good year.
Oh god, totally forgot that great game!
Super Mario Run:10 dollars for the game, noone buys it
Mario Kart Tour:Free, but people spend 100$ just to get something good from the lootbox...
Nick Ulman But the game is single player but it’s still always online. Like he said, there is not gonna be internet on a place like a train
krishnugget
Use your data. Who the heck doesn’t have unlimited data in today’s world? Get with the times or be left behind 🤷♀️
(I mean unless you live in a third world country. But you probably don’t even have a phone there, so it’s not like you have that problem)
Ambur Price People on underground trains and kids on iPads on car journeys, the main demographic wouldn’t have internet
Nick Ulman btw I’m pretty sure there are micro transactions

It’s really easy to tell them apart

I do believe NicoBBQ was being sarcastic
The reason Mario Run failed was too big expectations and too great of an investment in its production. The game grossed $60 million, which is a healthy sum for a mobile game, but ended up making a loss because it cost so much to develop. You can't develop mobile games like you do console games, I guess Nintendo learned that the hard way
And the 5% of people who paid for it isn't some spectacularly bad percentage, most popular mobile games have lower percentage than that
*in a alternate universe*

I actually spent the $10 on the full game last year.... No regrets, I actually think the online 1v1 is pretty decent.
I paid half off when they made a big update a couple of months ago and they placed it on sale. Came up to like $5
WoW you really splurged that money! You really are on the way to financial ruin. I hope you recover one day from this flagrant expenditure! (sarcasm: in case you didn't notice)
finally someone with actual sense. Too bad Mario Kart Tour is inevitably going to be free and have microtransactions.
Really? As he mentionned earlier, flappy bird was super successful despite not having good graphic or anything like that.
I hope they don't release free games. Freemium is the worst thing you can do...
This freemium cancer is flooding Steam already.

New Super Mario Bros. U > Super Mario Run
Sure New Super Mario Bros. U isn’t as good as the other New Super Mario Bros. games, but at least it’s not as short as Super Mario Run and it doesn’t require Online to play the full game.
Nathan Leviste
It should be better. It costs 6x as much
Run is not a copy and waste game
marco paolucci
Actually yeah it is.
DS was fully unique. Wii was tweaked, upped graphics, and changed some things. 3DS was copy paste Wii and Wii U was Wii with upped graphics and some new art.
Broshi I don't see how this proves that Run is a copy and paste. Wii U is Wii but HD, Run has a whole different gameplay, characters and modes.
marco paolucci
NSMB2 and Run are the only ones with a hard copy paste. It’s pretty obvious too.
I know what can replace Super Mario Run!
NEW Super Mario Run!
*Maniacal laugh*
I remember you being very hyped for it... And also making a tutorial on how to play it! Covering the Wii U gamepad, covering most of the TV...
It’s all behind a pay wall. The max you can do is unlock Toad, Yoshi and Daisy
Ik and you cant even have luigi
Wait it failed? I remember it being popular for like a month. Than it was kinda forgotten... Ok I see what u mean now
Also, What do people expect? It’s Nintendo. Their charging almost 100 bucks for a game now. So...
Love how everyone forgot data exists. And an online mode where u race people
Me too
Yes I love these kind of videos
We know about the music in the video Nicobbq. But we don’t know about the intro and outro music.
Overall, good video. Hope to see more like this.
I agree. Between-level ads (those where you just have to tap or skippable 15+sec/non-skippable 6-sec ads, not non-skippable 30-sec ads) and small microtransactions to bypass them would be a good idea.
However, ironically, many other mobile games literally tell you that no ads are available.
it is not a 1 hour game , sure u can , well RUN through it in one hour but that is not the correct way to play it,
the real goal is to gather all 15 special coins on each stage , the last black coins are very tought to get , but also very fun , doing that will take some serious gameplay hours ..having said that I must agree that 10$ is too epxensive for this game , what they should do is lower the price to 2.99$ , that would dramaticly increase the buyer base
Strahinja Rašković yeah I agree. This is why I don't like nicobbq very much.
Short Answer: You had to pay for basically everything
I'd like to have some Mario Run like stages in the next NSMB, stages where You are forced to run and can only jump Or walljump to avoid obstacles.
''why don't you play super mario bros u instead?''
me:don't have a wii u
I own the game. I think the price would be fair if it had a level builder like Mario Maker. An online community making run levels would compensate for all the "flaws".
Conclusion: Mobile games made by Nintendo are memes.
It wasn't free to play. Saved you 10 minutes
Hey, Nicobbq! I enjoyed this video.
He said that this game has various characters, but Nintendos lazy ass added like 5 Yoshis instead of adding other types of characters like Rosalina or other characters
2019: I think MKT failed as well, its just smr but mario kart style... THERE IS NO NEW TRACKS!!!!
I know I said this already but it's not a failure plus it has new tracks see some of the trailers.
Super Mario Run didn’t fail. It was actually Miitomo that failed
Kelvinator, 95% of Miitomo is not unlocked by 10$ at least.

You don’t need a 10 min video to explain.
It’s because you could only play like 3 levels then they made you pay.
(The maximum people would pay is usually $5 on mobile.)

it failed because of DRM. What's new? lol also I couldn't install it on my devices because they are rooted. lol x 2.
Mariokart tour!
just another commenter yeah I'm excited for that.
This game wasn’t too bad but Mario Kart Tour is such a disappointment

Fire emblem heroes isn't that much of fun it gets pretty repetitive.
Smash4Ever yep and unlike mario run you need to keep in mind the triangle system and abilities.
eh... alot of people calling it an easy or short game just havent explored it enough. i bought the full version and never got bored of it. theres always replayability in the form of the pink, purple, and black coins, and theres 2 other gamemodes, which are toad rally, and remix 10. before i had to switch from an iphone (where i had the game) to an android, i had collected all of the pink, most of the purple, and even some of the black coins. Theres so many more features than just the base levels. if anything, the levels are an extended tutorial for what was to come. while others, even miyamoto, call it a faliure, i personally enjoyed the game and what it had to offer.
You can actually do a lot without s pending 10$
1-You can collect all Pink, Purple and Black Coins in 4 courses
2-Unlock Characters:
Toad
Blue Yoshi
Daisy
3-Complete 30 levels in Remix 10 and unlock Daisy bt doing that
4-Brought your castle to MAX level
And i think that's it
I know I'm kinda late but... Am I the only 1 who likes this game! It's not perfect but I like it!
Sup Nico
Some people will hate for this comment but boo fortnite
This game was the reason I left Mario games and got into Sonic games
:)
6:44-6:49 thanks for featuring the TTC Subway
One of the big reasons why it failed is because it doesn't have much replay value :\
