Thanks a lot Helen. You are right. Ijaws of Rivers State from Opobo, Bonny, Kalabari, Okrika have a lot in common by way of cultural heritage. Am glad you enjoyed. Please share with others.
Believe me, the dance steps was something passed down to my mother and aunt during my grandpa funeral and I was only 12 . This is the first time I had to dance to these songs again. May we never forget our roots. Unfortunately for me my husband is Yourba and my kids can’t dance because we are far away from my family for them to witness. Thank you for putting a smile on my face.
@@woksqueen thank you. Please teach your children your own culture as well. It’s important they know both cultures. Once again thank you Helen. And I am glad to know this put smiles on your face. 👏👏👏👏
Victor 'Simar Thanks Victor. Am glad you love it. Pls share until it reaches majority of our people especially the young ones born overseas and don't get a chance to learn our culture.
@@sfuby if i may ask since igbo tribe and ijaw tribe are far different now are we saying this people are real igbo tribe or real ijaw tribe pls i want to know
Denniskc Obi Opobo and Bonny people are Ibanis of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality. They share common identity with neighbouring Ibos especially with inter-marriage & Ibo language influence but that doesn’t make them Ibos.
As lovely as this is, she actually dressed in Kalabari attire? Really? That hat she wore is not Opobo style, it's Kalabari style. I vividly remember my family's women refused to start and give out one of our daughters for marriage in Joseph Ogolo because she wore this hat.
The music are the same as Kalabari music as well as the dance steps. I was joining them in the dancing steps. My mum was amazed. Thanks 😊
