  • In this video, I showcase what would become the final public viewing of this closed off area of the soon-to-be-demolished CrossRoads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska. Tiny and I secretly entered this area of the mall that has been closed to the public for years and explore the remains of a once bustling location filled with the likes of Sam Goody, Suncoast, Dillards and more. We even venture into the back hallways previously reserved for mall staff and employees only,
    Join us as we take a step back in time, revisit these iconic store fronts, and reminisce about what once was at this classic Omaha shopping center.

      Idontknowanymore Pure luck, if im being honest. Right place at the right time and just enough guts to go for it. We did it for this very reason...we wanted to give anyone who has loved this mall the chance to see these locations one final time before the doors closed for good. Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed!

    That wasn’t a jewelry store on the first floor. It was actually a hair salon. I worked across the hall at Claire’s about 12 years ago. Was great to see everything again.

    I find it highly ironic that the Beatles’ “Help!” was playing in the background as you went to the 2nd floor. It was like the mall itself was crying out for help!!!

    This was my childhood Mall. Along with Southroads Mall, Oak View and Westroads. My family and I moved away from Omaha in 1994 when I was around 11. But fast forward to 2017 I took my own family back to Omaha and I definitely went back inside Crossroads, Westroads and Oakview. Just drove by Southroads since technically there is nothing inside. Great video.

      @@itsallknee The 2nd story was still closed off, the entrance into Target closed off, so I was only able to see the first floor but only up to the part that was closed off. Still quite a bit of local stores inside along with Barns and Nobel. I remember when Yonkers was still there where Target is now. And the Suncoast store, thanks so much for that. That store was so amazing. Thankfully they are still around, at least it was in 17 at Westroads.

    • @itsallknee
      @itsallknee  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sinskinner Sounds about right. I was able to make it into Barnes and Noble in early '18 and, by the time I came back again, it had already vacated. Most of the local stores were gone by the point with the exception of, I believe, 6 local businesses, a karate school, and a church.
      I appreciate Suncoast as much as you! When I saw it while exploring the second floor, I was transported back to many visits throughout the years. The last time I was at Westroads in '18, Suncoast was still there.

    I used to work at Dillard's in the mid 1990s. It was one of the top selling Dillard's in the Midwest, it was always full of people and we moved several tons of stuff. At 12:30pm, that cafe court had a line at every restaurant and every table was occupied! When Von Maur opened at Westroads, Dillard's started its slow decline slightly ahead of the rest of the mall. They moved all the top selling managers and staff elsewhere, and a short time later I was fired. As of this commenting - 01/08/21 - demolition is in full swing. The old Best Buy and Bag 'n save to the West are gone, Sears auto center is gone, Sears main store is 1/4 knocked down on the Southwest side. Too bad, right.. but when they make it to Dillard's I'll have my little bittersweet last laugh. Thanks for peeking in there.

Every couple months I visited the mall to marvel at its decline. Thanks for doing the Lord’s work with this video. I knew that mall was done for when Target, an anchor stored, permanently closed foot traffic access to the inside of the mall.

    The last time I was at the CR was in 1975 and thank God that's my only memory of it, of it looking as it did in its birth in 1960. All thru the '60s, it was my greatest hangout, from being dropped off by metro bussing right in front of Brandie's main front doors and also leaving by bus from the same location. the only store to keep its looks and unchanged during its lifetime was SEARS & Sears automotive dept.

Worked at famous footwear, used the basement as a storm shelter, protested there, was underage drinking in the parking lot when the huskers won in the 90s, my mom bought some cats from the petshop that had feline leukemia, finger banged a girl behind an arcade machine at tilt.

      @jasminebaum9343 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's All-Knee no, i believe it was in the lower level, like way lower, as in below the main level you walk in on. ...let me see if i can find more info...

    • @jasminebaum9343
      @jasminebaum9343 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's All-Knee , so here’s what i found out...It was a double screen called Crossroads Twin Cinema, and was only open from 1979 to 1985; it closed when they did one of the many mall remodels, this one being in or around 1986. It was located in the basement, and apparently the theatre area was originally a pinball and poolhall area with a bar [and someone said there was also a head shop down there], but when video games hit the scene, it turned into an arcade and they added the theatre as an afterthought. It reportedly wasn't the greatest...it had flat seating and pillars in the way, and the audio was supposedly horrible, as you could hear the arcade games through the wall. Makes sense, because the mall opened in 1960, and i would assume the basement was never designed to hold a theatre, but i suppose they caught on to the fad of mother’s having a place to dump their kids for a couple hours while theY shopped, and there wasn't a major concern about pedophiles and predators at that time. So originally you accessed the basement/theatre area from a door directly on the outside [middle main entrance], and when you opened it there was a mirror-lined stairwell taking you down to the theatre and arcade. The outside door was located on the Dodge street side [South side of mall] pretty much in the center of the original mall, before they did the remodel/addition and enclosed the original outside access. After that you could still access the stairwell by entering the mall, and before you got to any stores there’s a door on the right/east side by some bathrooms that leads to the stairwell that takes you down to the basement area and to where the old theatre and arcade were. I got this info from various sources on an OMaha history page i follow...i also read where one person said that the theatre was still accessible through a security door just to the right of where Zales used to be, underneath the escalator in the center mezzanine, but who knows if thats still there. Another person said that the main staircase [the one off the North side main entrance] was closed off when Target took over the old Yonkers spot, but that it could still be accessed [via the Zales area], as this person had asked a security guard who told them that. Apparently the security guard also said that the main gallery/theatre area is still there, and is mainly used for storage, and that theres a very large dumpster [or was] in the area, which was used primarily by food court restaurants. Someone else wrote that they worked at the mall in 1999, and the stairwell had been replaced by a ramp, but that you could still access it via a door, and there were still remnants of the theatre there; another person said the stairs are actually still there, that he’d been down there a couple years ago and he also confirmed that a very large dumpster stood in the area where the theaters were, and that the area was primarily used for a tornado shelter now. Anyway, thats a lot of info for you to consider...my guess is that the access to the basement area is definitely still there, but who knows if you’d be able to [access it], or if you did, to even be able to make-out a theatre anymore, let alone even gain access to the mall itself, as its days are numbered; in fact, I’m surprised they havent started demo yet. Good luck if you do try!!
