Sarah presented this at the first meeting in september : • Sarah Escoubet - Repla...
Hyperflexion of the neck has been clearly shown to be harmful to horses.
However, it is still frequently used, both in competitions and in training, particularly but not exclusively in dressage.
Because of its huge impact on the welfare of tens of thousands of horses, the Collectif Pour les Chevaux continues to alert and inform and bring together people who want to undertake concrete actions and means that can be implemented quickly to improve the situation for the horses in the warm-up areas.
The Collectif Pour les Chevaux organises this second international meeting 'Stop Hyperflexion' to make sure sport horses, particulary dressage horses, will soon be better protected against abusive riding.
All the actors of the equine industry should take their responsibility and protect the horses; several of them seem to forget that REALLY protecting the horses automatically means protecting their SLO.
As in all systems using propaganda to sell unhealthy products, like the cigarette industry for example, it is not the system that will provide you the information about how unhealthy their product really is… unless there is a legal obligation to do so.
The marketing behind hyperflexion is very strong and worldwide.
As it was the case in the cigarette industry, using bad training practices is sold as cool, sexy and elegant.
One of the reasons why we are present on social media is to be able to react on this kind of images and ask the authors to remove the publication.
Because many well-intentioned people copy what they see everywhere and what they have been told to be good for their horse and indispensable to win competitions.
If you know better, you do better.
