    I'm glad you like your stove now! I have a green one that I just restored, and one identical to yours. They both heat houses in the mountains, and I love them. Also, they don't create a lot of wood ash, so I guess they are more efficient than most other stoves. Plus you can cook on the top of it!

    I have no idea what a narrowboat is, but I recently purchased a home with a larger version of this Godin stove and have no idea how to use it. This video was really helpful! Thanks.

    I have watched all your other videos and was surprised that I didn't notice what a fancy stove that was before now. It looks really nice and probably a nice conversation piece for guests to your boat. Loved the video!.

    Loved the vlog! Sound is still a bit iffy at times, but it is louder now :) I'm only critical of the sound as I don't want to miss anything! When I first saw the stove it reminded me of French Chateau I have stayed in! At first I thought how awkward it was going to be to load up...then you revealed the trick...TOP LOADING! Brilliant :) We have a Morso Squirrel on our boat. Not as pretty, but really a great bit of kit for warming the boat. And easily stays in over night. Keep up the good work with the vlogs!

      @ItsANarrowboatThing  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there Ronnie thanks for the feedback, the top loading aspect is pretty neat isn't it? Love Morso Squirrel stoves and that would have been our first choice of stove if we'd have been picking but we're quite fond of the Godin now as it does the trick and keeps us warm :-)

    That was useful I didn't realise those stoves opened at the top. I stupidly thought you had to put the coal and wood in the small door at the front! Thanks.

      Hi Sylvia, thankfully the previous owners showed us how to load it or we'd probably still be using the little door in the front too!

    try using coal smokeless obviously and your fire will easily stay alight for 12 hours.

    See if you can buy a stack of number 10 paper bags. In the US there are commonly used for candy purchases. Take a bag add a few pieces of kindling charcoal and paper scraps the it's simply one bag to put into the firebox and strike a match. Also the heat activated fan needs to be set on the edge of the stovetop with the fan blades facing into the center of the stovetop get the fan as close to the edge as possible and it will last years longer by this little tip.at the radiate section on top needs to pull in cool air instead of warm air. This little position bit about the fan is the number one reason why they fail by overheating and burning out the section that generates electricity. Definitely something to remember to extend their life as they are unbelievably expensive.
    Cheers

      @ItsANarrowboatThing  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great tips there! Love the idea of putting everything in a bag and will give this a go. The tip about the fan is a good one, as you say they are ridiculously expensive to replace and not something that we want to do. Hopefully, your advice will prevent this, Thanks.

    Question: Can you rely on the radiators only (for what ever reason)?

    Love that stove - exqensive yes but there seems to be a second hand market for them and there are a couqle for around £500 on Ebay. It is so qretty but not intrusive in a small area and I notice they have a narrow flue. Some narrowboat stove fittings have a flue chimney almost as big as the stove toq and it looks chunky and ugly.

    Hi, loved the vid and I have a question. I have the excact same model as yours ( not as good looking though :( ) The question is do you know the thickness of the fire rope you use for the door ? This year i used 10mm thick rope, but i think it may be still to thick because i can still slide a piece of paper between the door locking side, whilst the hinged side is definately sealed. If you answer this question I will so so gratefull. Thanks, Andy :)

    Thanks for another great video, I love the stove as I do your boat. I was wondering if one day you might be able to do a video on power consumption and how you keep the battery's topped up out on the cut if your not moving each day cheers Dave

      Hi Dave, glad you enjoyed the video. Great idea for a video and something we'll take a look at. At the moment we're using a combination of solar, a generator and regular short trips out in between longer journeys to keep topped up.

    Hi, I have a Godin stove with a rear outlet. Due to the odd sizing of the outlet, I was wondering how you fitted your flue pipe to the stove. I’m presuming you have used 4 inch flue pipe? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I would love to get my one up and running in my summerhouse. Thanks

    • @antonytipton3432
      @antonytipton3432 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a 4" 90 degree inspection bend. The rest of the pipe was bespoke 4" steel to fit. Took me ages to find a bend with two feet ake fittings to fit to the flue and stove.

    Do you ever get a lot of smoke coming out the chimney outside?

    • @ItsANarrowboatThing

      We lit it whenever it was needed. Just can get a bit smokey at the tiller end if you are going into the wind.

    Hi can you keep the stove burning all night on wooden logs? Coal I have to pay for but logs I get for free. Thanks

    • @ItsANarrowboatThing
      @ItsANarrowboatThing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Shaw Hi Adam. We have to use smokeless fuel to keep it in all night. It goes through wood really quickly.

    • @ItsANarrowboatThing
      @ItsANarrowboatThing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Adam. Logs burn quite quickly. It burns much steadier with coal briquettes

      Coal was much better in that stove. Wood burnt too fast and too hot.

    If you have a collapsible cargo cart with a small battery powered skill saw you can easil cut up unwanted pallets that business owners put out in the heating season to be taken away as freebies. With a lithiumion powered skill saw its cut up rather quickly and most pallet wood is dried before they make pallets. Also think battery powered chain saws, aka no gasoline to buy, store and mix with oil as they are 2 stroke motors. I will post a video of an arborist from California that's recently been converted and loves his electric chainsaw, 12 inch cutting bar. Makes it very convenient when you come across downed hardwood trees along the canals. Here ya go, I know there expensive but consider, no petrol just lubrication oil for the automatic chainsaw oil pump, this little saw is considered to be a pruning saw which is precisely what a narrow boat owner needs.

    Cheers!

    • @antonytipton3432
      @antonytipton3432 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to be very careful using pallets. some are treated with chemicals that you really don't want to put in your stove and burn. Google pallet markings and it let's you know what they are treated with.

    on having a closer look at your stove it does not have much in the way of glass at the front does it but its a lovely looking stove is it putting out a lot of heat . ?

    • @ItsANarrowboatThing
      @ItsANarrowboatThing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It only has a small window but it does give out a LOT of heat. Because of its shape you can stack it up with coal and it will keep burning through the night.

    • @stevecapper9321
      @stevecapper9321 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      so how much coal do u put in the stove when u go to bed to last till u get up do u half fill it. ??

    • @ItsANarrowboatThing
      @ItsANarrowboatThing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We probably put in about 10 - 12 pieces and that keeps it going.
