My understanding is that most of the gas in geyser is carbon dioxide, which is harmless. There may be other gases like oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane, nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen sulfide but only in minor amounts. The guide advised us not to inhale the geyser gases too close (it's hot too), and that's all. :)
