Anderson was interviewed after the match and the announcer described how well the US was playing, how creative they were, how their offense was varied, etc. He was pouring on the compliments and asked Anderson how they do it. Anderson said, "Micah Christenson. He's the best setter in the world."

Shoji and Smith was part of the Polish team (Zaksa) that won the CEV. Smith even won the finals MVP. They are runner up in the Polish League. So playing against Poland gave them some sort of familiarity. But of course, the entire team is composed of well decorated players. Same with Poland. But in this game, US played their game plan well.

    • @ATP980

I mean it’s not like Poland’s got a complex game to plan against. They’re bigger than most, hit hard and serve well. You just have to be fundamentally better than them on the day.

I completely agree with you! But I wonder... do you guys think DeFalco, despite being an amazing player, could also be a problem when it comes to some sorta teamwork-energy-a-team-needs-in-the-court? I tend to watch all the players reactions and every now and then I think he kinda overreacts and I honestly think it's not a healthy action. For instance, on 1:40 when Anderson gets blocked... from my perspective, his reaction was too much: while all the other teammates get together to huddle, he's from afar kinda angry haha.

@@brunofreire10 That was my concern last year not just with TJ but even Micah sometimes. Someone would make a mistake or be slow to the ball and they’d get down on each other fast. I also hate it when TJ walks away from the huddle. But team chemistry seems way better so far this year and I notice more of an effort for the guys to come together after every point not more matter the outcome. However, I am not sure Jeff Jendrik and Aaron Russel will play. Here, we see solid blocks from the duo. Micah Christenson was also involved in the blocking quite often to support Jendrik and Russel.
In the VNL last year, I have seen these 3 players formed a 3 blockers formation against oppositions. They are impressive in this aspect.

This is false....they are not guaranteed anything. There are 16 teams in contention. The top eight go into the quarterfinals. If they finish 9th in the preliminary stage play then they are out.

They’re missing MBs Bieniek and Klos from Week 1 and their best setter Janusz. Having Semeniuk, Muzaj, Butryn and Sliwka on the bench wouldn’t be so bad either.

@@zelilee5312I'm not talking about their team, which is as strong as it is without those few standard ones, but I'm talking about their game, they're all good players, strong, trained, powerful, I don't recognize them in this VNL. Poland is strong and I believe that everyone can complement other players, what I have criticized Nikola since he started leading Serbia is that he is a good coach, but he does not continue and does not know how to shout when he needs to or to react to the guy by shouting, that by car etc. Poland MUST beat Italy tomorrow by any score.

@@amanda.a.France is constantly, if not always, in the top 5, then in the top 10 in the world, it is even much stronger than the top 10 and up to 7 national teams in the world and can even more than cope with all the strongest. But they don't always play in continuity, 3 competitions they play excellently, then one failure at the last World Cup, they were not in shape at all, and nobody in the French team is highly ranked by the volleyball public except Earvin, even though they play amazingly. It's a sport, the ball is round.

Great serving & passing USA! Hitting on all cylinders.
Over and over, Christiansen shows what an asset he is. One of the best setters ever, but a phenomenal blocker too!
Poland didn't look like they were in top form. But when the USA serves and passes like that, it makes it much harder for any team.
