- A video from the 1986 8 Hours of Suzuka.
This is the year Yamaha gave Roberts $750k to race the event, and his leathers sponsor gave him $500,000. A good bit of the Team Roberts GP team budget was "assisted" by him racing this event.
Either the EXUP or the FIVE Valve went kablooey.
The Suzuka 8 hour has always been the most prestigious race to win for the Japanese Factorys, hence the scale and budget that they out into it.
The bikes (IMHO) are also the most gorgeous race bikes of any race series anywhere. :-)

Those are some good looking motorcycles...I never thought lower,smaller,narrower tyred motorcycles could be as good looking as modern MotoGP Ducatis

there racing them so must have been its the zxr750 missing
Hard to remember back. I think they had them for WSBK which came the next year or so, so Japan and Europe probably had it.
The RC30 came out in 88 in North America , this was like a prototype race at the time , Yamaha Fzr 750 and the liquid cooled Gsxr 750 were also in this race, these bike were released for sale in 1987-88, the Americans had to wait until 1990 for the RC30 to arrive.
Yes, sounds right. Ridiculously expensive, as was the RC45 that followed some years later. Still the V4 fans clamor for it though. Still Honda ignores them and offers another yearly round of cruisers...
