I LOVE this MV. The claws on blonde Mr. Insanity make me think he hijacked Ian's PB & tears memory and tried to make him re-live it in his way. I still think the pink men are the policeman: medication, society expectations/behaviors, etc to keep him in check before Mito steps in. But even the pink man go to far sometimes, which makes him feel like he's dying. I'm still not sure if the green man is a servant of Mr. Insanity or just the embodiment of mania breaking thru. But he provides Ian with a means to keep living and thriving.
Before the music video premiered there was a preview video that showed the desert scene further. This is like a prequel to So I Danced. The preview video showed them from this point on (the end of the Don't Go Insane video) where they stole the van which they used in So I Danced.
Okay, let's go with some theories!
As soon as the MV starts two characters are presented, one playing the piano and singing with a collar on his neck, and the other one sat at a desk with maybe a map on his hand. He seems to be listening to something while the other character is "singing", the lines are alludes to being trapped and alone full of sorrow and ends with the frase "Cause you won't know, I was here from the moment the lights showed". To me, the first verses of the song seems to be verses of Mr Insanity, claiming that he is part of IAN, and were there all along since the start. But the other character just seems to be listening to this voice that may be singing to him.
The next scenes shows Mr Insanity, still with the collar on his neck dancing, and other character dressed in black, the only lines that he mouths are: "don't fall apart" and "still the same", and he seems to hold his neck like he was missing something (like the collar) or feeling suffocated. Then when the line "go insane" plays his eyes shine green.
Now we are shown this character in black, the regular Mr Insanity in his colorful suit, a blonde character and the character with the white suit. As the word "insane" is being repeated we see the characters eyes shining pink and green, and it ends with the white suit character walking up from the dead, brought back by the green with two green glowing eyes.
In my perspective, it seems that the blond character with claws and the collar is the true and wild Insanity itself. While Mrs Insanity that we see here with the white suit and without the colar may be kind of an avatar of Insanity, that is chaotic too but much more goofy and innocent in a way, since he doesn't seem to know exactly what is happening and relies on green to escape the pink people.
While the video progresses, the Insanity (I'm referring here the character in the dark with claws and blond hair) seems to slowly get the grip of Mr Insanity, and in the end of the video both of his eyes are shining in green and he seems to be working together with green just fine.
My theory is that the true Insanity isn't that fun and nice and it's more like a monster traped in the ends of Ians mind. While Mr Insanity is more like a corrupted character that is just influenced by the madness and just want to have fun. Green works for Insanity and represents madness the same way the Pinks work for Mito. So Insanity's plan is to make Mr Insanity open the door and go to deeper levels of Ians mind and save him, or be with him. It seems to me that he is someone craving love and attention, hence the only thing that Green said is that he wished to loved, and chorus of the song begging for someone to "stay". But Isanity love may me toxic (the purple heart?) so Mito wants to keep him locked way and that's why he don't want the other characters to reach the doors.
I think Peanut butter and tears green fog was probably insanity doing, maybe alluding to him destroying everything he touches and the reason that he was locked away in the first place.
I hope it makes at least a little sense. If you guys have any thoughts to add I would love to hear.
Yes yes yes, I love this theory, especially the second to last paragraph. I really don't think that Insanity is that much if a fun persona. Also the pink men being the medication is so interesting.

I was surprised to see that the trailer is not included in the actual music video! The trailer that was playing on the countdown before the MV release showed Mr. Insanity and Green walking towards the door, exactly the same door and desert from "So I Danced". Mr. Insanity and Green want to walk through the door but it's locked, to Insanity's surprise. Then two pink guys appear - both eyes covered, on the contrary to the ones with pitchforks here with one eye uncovered - the way Mito is - with just one eye.
The pink guys tell them that they need a key to open the door, and once asked where the key is, they said that, of course, it's in the Emerald City. They were not able to show Insanity and Green the way, but they suggested that they should go in disguise as "He" is expecting them, throwing Insanity the blonde wig with red reflexes that he's wearing in "So I danced". Once asked who "he" is, one pink man started to fight with the other for spilling it. Insanity and the Green then steal their van that they use to rob the Bank of the other side and to run from Mito. When they enter the van, Green says "I just hope that someday someone will love me" as in the beginning of "So I danced", and then they drive away towards Emerald City. All of this would suggest that this is a retrospection to what happens in So I danced, and now we will have to wait to what will happen later, whether they reached the door or not with Mito catching up to them.
I'm also curious why Green flickers to pink and back a couple of times when they're running away from the cross.

I would like to point out that in a recent live Ian mentioned how mister insanity is eventually discovering something that turns him blind, basically he’s going insane because he knows too much!

I feel like the green man is Mr Insanity's protector or watch dog set by Ian. Christian said that he doesn't remember an episode and when Mr Insanity woke up in the graveyard he looked confused, almost like he didn't know why or didn't understand why he was there or was getting threatened by the pink people. Maybe Ian was Mito before he(Mr Insanity) woke up and he(Mito) did something to put Ian in danger so inturn of getting Ian to safety, the green man "woke up" Mr Insanity. Also from Pb and tears to this mv the times have changed so I'm wondering if the green man is kinda taking Mr Insanity (and Mito) back into the past (maybe to unlock a key memory either for Mr Insanity, Ian, the monster or the green man himself). And i think the desert is a check point, a place to be safe.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - this man is a creative GENIUS 🤯🤯🤯
Aaah thank you so much for the reaction, what a great MV and just overall wonderfully talented individual Ian is! Just some random theories: I think this MV and the Miito movie might be parallels of each other, or at least some of the events are happening simultaneously? In the movie we see Ian getting stabbed in the back by an invisible entity, and in this MV we see that when he comes back from the grave he actually appears to be stabbed in the back (maybe or it could just be the blood on his clothes). There is also the dancing happening that could be referencing ribbon. The events may not be playing out in order, but they could be happening side by side, so to speak, as this MV takes place in "The Other Side."
Also, we see in the MV at the start that Mr.Insanity and Mito are possibly vying for control, with the switches back and forth. I think Mito is trying to protect Ian from going too far, but ultimately Mr. Insanity wins out and does in fact go to far into his own mind. I theorize that the character with the claw gloves is Mr.Insanity when he has gone past that point of no return, becoming reckless and a danger to himself. We see in the Peanut butter and tears MV the gloved hand stealing another key at the end. So probably this is Mr. Insanity himself going even further and taking another key. If i was to guess i would think the order of the MVs would be Dont Go Insane, So i Danced, and finally Peanut Butter and tears.
This is an entirely out of left field theory and probably incorrect but I wonder if in the Miito movie Ian actually was stabbed by The Green man? We see a floating knife in that movie, and the idea of a green screen character is that they are always there but you cannot see them. I don't know why The Green would be the one to stab him but also help him, however Ian is stabbed in the back, which could allude to betrayal. Oh I also had to add that The Green has a knife he uses to cut Ian down from the cross. Anyway, could be completely off base but I like to think about it! Thanks again for the reaction!
Edit: not me having to come back and edit this after rewatching the miito movie asdghjjkl. He doesn't get stabbed in the back he actually turns around don't know how I forgot that! My speculations about The Green still stand though. Aaah I'm just so excited about this MV my brain is in a frenzy!

It helped me get the story straight because the videos have been purposefully released out of order. And the music video teasers/trailers explain so much of the missing details. ❤
you should watch the 1 minute teaser for this because it links don’t go insane to so i danced. it explains why they’re there and how they get to emerald city. and explains they lyric we drove around in the car that we stole
another great reaction :) this MV plot wise comes before “so I danced” MV so clawed man towards the end is I’m 99% sure Mr.Insanity in his true “final form” if you would when he loses all control in the teaser preview of this MV (def watch to understand the context) we know 2 pink guys tell green man and Mr.insanity they need to disguise themselves from mito who’s looking for them before entering emerald city hence the blonde wig Mr.Insanity was wearing since that’s where the keys to the door is (PB&T MV) personally I believe that the pink citizens can also be a representation of other parts of Ian’s mind that are just there they either go along for the chaos or fight back green man as Ian has mentioned before on a previous ig live will play a role throughout the storyline but this MV really made me more sympathetic for Mr.Insanity and his pov that everyone is outcasting him for who he is when that dysfunctional side of us those with personality disorders often times can’t be helped yet he is trying to be gotten rid of by the others whether that’s good or bad thing is definitely up to one to decide and we will learn further why as the storyline progresses
i have to read everyone's insightful comments tomorrow to understand the mv better, but what strikes me most from listening briefly is the difference between the contradictory "i'm sane" (as if he's trying to convince himself) and "insane" portions of the lyrics. that sounds like such an awful internal battle to deal with.

Ooh now that the album is out, it looks like the MVs are in reverse order to the tracklist. Watchung them in order of the tracklist makes more sense now!

Am not sure if you watched the teaser for this MV, but it does seem like a prequel before So I Danced happened! Some things I'm not sure if you missed-- at the beginning of the mv when it shows the DPR logo you can barely see a bird that quickly flashes through-- & at the end where the green man is pointing at the sky there's a bird moving at the same time! could it be mito in a way? also where the green man saves him from the cross and they're running away, the green man flashes/flickers into pink a couple of times very quickly :0 ALSO seems like the backup dancers at the 'wolfman' part look like they're stabbing themselves in the dance... am not sure what any of this could mean but its some things I've noticed.... but for real wanted to say I really REALLY love your videos and how you decipher all of this so well, please do keep us updated on your thoughts as he releases more things out~
I also am not so sure if someone has said it before, but Ian also has stated on recent live's that he also has DID apart from Bipolar and it would explain most of his mvs as well knowing this too

-sorry I’m so late but did you notice at one point one of Ian’s eyes was pink and the other was green?? I still believe Mito and Mr Insanity are fighting for control.
