Like always, the best place to start is at the beginning, so a song called Yours Is No Disgrace, a song written in honour of vets, is a fine next listen. Us silver tops will sub for YES. Enjoy your YES journey. 🎶🙏🎶

IF you want listening the Yes stuff back in the 70 with Gates of Delirium or Awaken and Long distance runaround The fish (Bass solo from the legendary Chris Squire)I'M SURE YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!
Hard to choose. This song is definitely in my top 3; the other two are: "Sound Chaser" and "Close to the Edge"
I've seen YES live 49 times. Best band, ever. Period. I can die a happy man.

This is 80's Yes with Trevor Rabin on guitar, he composed the the core of all the songs then the band members and producer put their own touches in. Great album, but this album and the one after had a more commercial/pop style than most Yes music before and after. Most fans like 70's Yes the best, check out Roundabout from 71' next, amazing jam song, then the other main songs on Fragile like heart of the Sunrise and South Side of The Sky. Then go full prog with everything on Close To The Edge - you will get your mind blown. Rush is very influenced by Yes. If you want more pretty/mellow/beautiful Yes songs, try I've Seen All Good People, Wonderous Stories, Turn Of The Century, Onward. Their main epics are Close To The Edge, Gates Of Delerium & Awaken.

Saw Yes at the Hordern Pavillion Sydney, early seventies. The house lights were dimmed and Stravinsky's "Fire bird Suite" was playing. As the lights went up we came to realise, it was Rick Wakeman playing on two sets of keys. So many of the band members went on in later life, to influence prominent musos.
I am so happy to find you guys. I am your age and love to feel that I can share your perspective with a greybeard who has wisdom.
I love the Yes music I got to know in my teenage years, from Yes Album to Going for the One, but their later work I find also nice and entertaining, like Drama and Fly from Here. And I love it when the album cover is designed by the great Roger Dean, it adds to the appreciation of an album.
When I got to know (and love) the band YES, they were still in their "classic prog rock phase" (my "first encounter" was the live album "Yessongs" from 1973). But in the 80s no one wanted to hear 20 minute prog ballads anymore. This album is a prime example of how a prog-rock band tries to adapt to contemporary tastes without selling its soul.
Love you guys' reaction. I have three more you'll love. 3 that will Sizzle. All 3 start with an 'S'...."South Side of the Sky", "Siberian Khatru", and "Sound Chaser"
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them as will many other YES fans so keep them coming. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "And You and I", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "The Revealing Science of God", lots more.
Progressive Rock is all about CHANGES. They do a lot of songs that take you on a journey that take half an album get you through. Musicians, great musicians, look up to this bands abilities.

So many epics to hear- Fragile & the Yes Album are Great to start with.
Close to the Edge is said to be the #1 Prog album (and don’t put Pink Floyd in ther..lol..they’re Psychedelic Rock!😊😊

That intro time signature is 17/8 (breaking down into 7, 7, 3). Yes use it in the intro to another great track, The Miracle Of Life, but there it breaks down to 5, 5, 7.
And the way they grease the landing into 4/4 after that intro is EFFORTLESS…

If you guys want to be the first to react to a song that has everyone else following suit, listen to Sunburst Finish by Utopia. Heavy prog/funk/fusion, cool vocal trade offs, transitions galore. Blissful mind melt.
difficult to pick just one track from the musical maestros but AWAKEN is one of many standout tracks
The thing that makes these songs great is their UNPREDICTABILITY ... which makes them more interesting than INDUSTRY-MADE music of today. It has been a long time since I heard this one with headphones, but IIRC they also do a bit with the left-right balance ... which adds to this unpredictability.
Recently Trevor Rabin launched a new album. After Yes, he made a lot of great movie soundtracks.
Great Yes songs: Starship Troopers, Roundabout (probably the song everyone mentions), Our Song (as much "cardio" as Yes ever gets, because tempo changes are still in it), Leave It (you need headphones for the clear left-right action ... it is great because of "voices as instruments", another "surprise")

Seceral things. Yes had broken up after the tour fir their previous album Drama (1980) and this was originally supposed to be a new four piece band called Cinema. Cinena was bassist Chris Squier, guitarist/singer Trevor Horn, drummer Alan White and keyboardist Tony Kaye. Though brought in Jon Anderson to work on the vocals. As everyone exceot Trevor Rabin was a member of Yes, including producer Trevor Horn who sand lead on Drama, the label refused to release the album as Cinema and only as Yes. They won. The album titles is the ATCO label album catalog number.
Yes: Jon Anderson - original lead singer
Chris Squire - bassist and only member to apoear on every Yes album recorded during his lifetime
Tony Kaye - original keyboardist fired in 1971 for not wanting to play synths. His return to Yes
Alan White - second drummer (RIP) replacing Bill Bruford in 1972.
Trevor Rabin - third lead vocalist and guitarist joining on this album.
The vocal range above tenor would be countertenor or contralto (which is the same range, but countertenor is male and contralto is female). Jon Anderson is definitely in that range without using falsetto. Alto indeed is above countertenor/contralto. The most famous contralto in pop music probably is Annie Lennox from Eurythmics. Her voice is actually a bit lower than Jon Anderson's.
Please listen to Gates of Delirium and Close to the Edge. These guys are singular musical geniuses. Long COMPOSTIONS, not just songs

DON'T STOP NOW!!! I don't know if you've heard other YES ESPECIALLY 70's YES. CHANGES might give you a slight taste, but it is a FAR WEAKER song on the YES virtuosity scale. 70's YES with the CLASSIC 5 musicians makes a good 80's song like this one sound-like Child's play as they do to most bands during that decade during their heyday! ROUNDABOUT was a big Hit then and a good place to start but YES weren't about making mainstream commercial music. They were originally extremely groundbreaking and adventurous: HEART of the SUNRISE, YOURS is no DISGRACE, PERPETUAL CHANGE, STARSHIP TROOPER, and Ultimately when you're seriously ready CLOSE TO THE EDGE album and beyond. These will text your musicianship mind on every level! Ignore all until you've experienced YES from 1970-1977! WORD!
