At life's four-way stop, the tinge in your shadow drops Fate pulls you down for the count With broken promises to amount Time, seal our ways to the heart of our hiding place When all our lifelines have been crossed Some scars can never heal from what we lost [Chorus] To fail the test and depart the strong Is to light the way where you have gone For only our funerals to come A requiem in death, a song [Verse 2] And it seems to be that consistency Is not what lingers ahead But a virtue of the dead One of these days, hours pass yet the night stays When your spirit won't turn anew The world shuts down with no goodbye to undo you [Bridge] Breathing, lifeless We are not afraid to die Breathe in, life's less You're afraid not to live [Chorus] To fail the test and depart the strong Is to light the way where you have gone For only our funerals to come a requiem in death a song.
Everything about this song is so perfect. Melody, rhythm, ambience, harmony, modulations, dissonance... You name them, Katatonia has got them, and they are beautiful.
respect from the bowels of the earth and respect from the highest of the heavens. jonas and katatonia are a needed inspiration for all of those who wander, but are not lost.
I love how the chorus of this song is a little throwback to the For Funerals to Come EP. Even the piano crescendo is reminiscent of the cold melodies of their old music. Taking cues from their past, yet moving forward.
When they played "Racing Heart" live in Pittsburgh, I squealed like a little girl, "It's my song!" And then was the only one with devil horns during the chorus. Anders looked directly at me. I felt like such a dork, but I kept on rocking out. It was epic... :P
Awaken a harmony, Within our souls, Unearth a passion, and stirring flows..... A tide of emotion, a streams of tears, Rising from the depths, of all our fears........................
I also thought so on the first listen, give it more time and it'll grow on you big time. I'm crazy about this record now. Such a mature, noir sound. I think it's one of their best.
such a great song, didnt think much of this song until i listened to it from start to finish, its my favourite album now (along with NITND and Tonights decision)
Cold War Echo: Unraveling mysterious radiowave UVB-76 Is the piece pleying on the beginning of this song. Search the tube for the aforementioned words and you will find the piece. That solves it.
just my opinion dude; i'm a huge fan too, Pink Floyd (quite possibly the best band ever) had a lot of sub-par albums as well (Atom heart Mother, Relics, A momentary lapse of reason)...i just think this is Katatonia's "Sub-Par" Album...good for you for liking it more than me (you're Obviously a bigger fan because of it)
not depressive, DOOM metal lol. not meant to depress you, meant to make you feel more passionate. give in deeper. people who dont understand it call it depressed music. but def progressive just like my fav along with them...OPETH
At life's four-way stop, the tinge in your shadow drops
Fate pulls you down for the count
With broken promises to amount
Time, seal our ways to the heart of our hiding place
When all our lifelines have been crossed
Some scars can never heal from what we lost
[Chorus]
To fail the test and depart the strong
Is to light the way where you have gone
For only our funerals to come
A requiem in death, a song
[Verse 2]
And it seems to be that consistency
Is not what lingers ahead
But a virtue of the dead
One of these days, hours pass yet the night stays
When your spirit won't turn anew
The world shuts down with no goodbye to undo you
[Bridge]
Breathing, lifeless
We are not afraid to die
Breathe in, life's less
You're afraid not to live
[Chorus]
To fail the test and depart the strong
Is to light the way where you have gone
For only our funerals to come
a requiem in death a song.
Jonas sings different words in a lot of parts
The chorus may very well be my favorite part of this whole album. It's so masterfully executed.
"Some scars can never heal from what we lost". Some of the truest lyrics that where ever written.
Has become probably my favorite of the album. Didn't think much of this at first.

There's so much emotion in this song, it's almost overwhelming. This is by far one of there best albums.

All songs are the best in this album. I cannot define one as better than others.
There's a huge same problem with each and every Katatonia song - all of them are too short!
This album truely is a proud moment for metal
Such a beautiful song...

The part at 4:40 is somewhat redolent of Opeth's Advent.

Bin durch Zufall hier gestosen und muss sagen das es sich gar nicht mal so schlecht anhört. :-) 👍
this song is definitley KATATONIA though dig the "for funerals to come" line
puts a knot in my throat the first part....
Anyone else think that the piano scales being played in the background is reminiscent of Final Fantasy 10?
yep .. reminds me of some of the music played in levels of kingdom hearts 2 also..
why doesnt sound much different from quite a few of there previous albums, id say the proud moment has already happened ;)
nice nice, i have to wait 2 weeks more for the album T_T but oh yea!

That makes absolutely no sense. Try to at least posit some sort of reasonable argument before typing.
