48:31 When he talks about how he gave Link the bad jobs in the painting business to dissuade him from doing the same kind of work Charles had to do in order for Link to go get an education. 😢 that’s some Disney movie dad type stuff.
It was such a fatherly mentor thing to also make sure if Link were to continue with painting, he would need to do the difficult jobs well. What a good dad.
My dad was a fisherman and had his own boats, gear, licenses, etc. It's a very tough living. Every time he went on the water he would sleep at night sitting up in the wheel house keeping eye on the gear and other boats in the area, and there were times he said he didn't know if he'd make it home alive from storms on the ocean. Plus, the physical work is grinding on the body. He said he'd never want us on the water working. He put my brother and myself through university. We had nothing up until he sold the business (boat, gear, fishing licenses), then he invested and put us through school.
It’s a testament to the love Charles has for Link and Rhett in his unwavering support for them doing their own thing without judgment or disappointment, even though he didn’t understand what they were doing.
I hope Link never stops owning what makes him unique. It helps someone like me feel less alone with my “quirks” or hot takes. He’s purely himself and I enjoy it
At 30:20 in the video, when link’s dad says, “you can come” to Rhett, referring to their Thanksgiving dinner… that is just so wholesome. they’re tight knit people. i’ll just leave that there.
everyone talking about how you can tell theyre close bc rhett is invited to thanksgiving but what really shows their closeness is that rhett says that he thinks link chews his food too many times and then has to literally stop himself from talking more about it
Best part of the podcast😂😂 Charles essentially saying LA turned them into woke social justice warriors. Which is okay, especially for their younger target audience.

Charles for GME. 🤣🤣🤣 It is working out well for Charles.
The whole phone conversations is very relatable. Loved the whole episode and how it seemed like Rhett is interviewing both Charles and Link, such a fun, laid back conversation.
He’s not just picky. It’s like he has strong opinions about one food but then he likes something to do with that food in another context. It’s not consistent 😭

Link is spot on about pie vs cake. Link, never change. 💗 love the podcast with link and his dad. And love Charles’s special appearance on GME this year. What a great sport.
Link seems to spend a lot of time thinking of aspects of food he doesn't like. But he's not really into food, all his favorite regular foods are things that take no time or effort to consume. And very little thought about taste.
8:01 link thinking Rhett said “yea he bights his tongue monthly” sarcastically about his dad, when in reality he was agreeing with link and telling his dad his son bites his tongue once a month 😭💀💀
I love that they've gotten close from doing Dispatches together. I'm 30 years old, and I don't think I've been all that close to my dad since my Boy Scout days 16 years ago.
Aww Link. I'm with you, man. I share so many of your dislikes, especially raw tomatoes. It's so hard to explain to people what is gross about them, and why when cooked they're actually pretty good! I feel you, dude.
I heard his accent on a short and I knew I had to find the video. I love the Carolina accent I’m from the west coast but my next door neighbor is from North Carolina and his accent is just as thick as links dads I’ll talk to that man for hours idk what it is but that part of the country has such an alluring way of speaking. My family is from the south but more middle of the country, coastal southern accents are the easiest accents in the world to listen to and I wish every audiobook was read by someone with a thick Carolina accent

Had link ever mentioned having a half sister? I know he talked about his stepsister that made him “not like music” but I never knew he had an actual blood sister
I believe that Lauren was his step sister and the one who made him not like music. He doesn’t have a half sister. Charles thinks of her like a daughter but she was his step daughter. Bigger fans can correct me if I’m wrong.
Charles was referring to link’s wife with relation to the tomatoes, not an actual daughter. In the south it’s normal to refer to your child and your child’s spouse as your children.
