- This is a playthrough of Rayman 1 (PlayStation version) where not a single hit is taken. After many resets, some rather funny ones and others that were just painful, this run was achieved on October 13th 2020.
The rules for the run are as follows:
- You can't die
- You can't be hit by any enemy
- You can't get stunned by the Clowns in the final level
- You can't be hit by any object causing damage
- Mr. Dark casting spells upon Rayman in the final level is not a hit as no damage or stun is caused and Rayman doesn't make a "hit-sound"

This is the first No Hit Run of the PS1 version. Several levels are slightly different, most notably, cage locations vary.
Edit: In March 2022, Thextera beat Rayman 1 hitless as well but he also collected all 102 cages, all 11 magicians, all 2119 Tings, all 65 lives, all 112 P-Orbs, all 82 Fist powerups and the optional infinite helicopter powerup in Eraser Plains. Considering that this video now gets a lot more views after Josh Strife Plays uploaded a review of Rayman 1 last week, I decided to elaborate on a few things that might not make perfect sense at first glance.

Q: But can I even play the game if I don't own a PlayStation?

Q: Why are you breaking all of the cages?
A: You need to find and break every single cage in the game in order to unlock the final level. EDIT: 28 years after the game's release, fuerchter discovered a Memory Card Manipulation with which a warp to Mr. Dark's Dare (final level) is possible. That way, there's no need for collecting all the cages. Q: So what are the rules for a No Hit Run of Rayman 1?
A: You can find the rule set in the video description.
Q: You zipped through the wall at 17:45 and again at 18:27. How do you do that?
A: By jumping onto a rising platform such as the maracas rocket when it's just barely above solid ground, then staying on it, ducking and finally riding it into the ceiling. Inside the wall, the game "doesn't know what to do" so it moves you all the way up until you exit the wall you were in.
Q: How did you manage do get to the cage at 19:08? After all, you never have to revisit the level in order to collect the missing cage by doing that.
A: By holding up while being connected to the pink ring and jumping at a specific time you can significantly increase the amount of distance you travel after letting off of that ring. The same trick works with every other pink or red ring in the game. If you would like some visualisation, you can take a look at the Input Display in the top left corner.
Q: Couldn't you just skip the boss at 56:56?
A: Yes! The easiest way of skipping Mr. Sax is by collecting all the cages in the level without taking a checkpoint and then dying on purpose, sending you back to the beginning of the level. You can then move on and beat the game as bosses are not required to unlock the final level. I didn't skip the boss here because there is no easy way back up rather than dying.
Q: What strat are you talking about at 1:19:50?
A: A strat which allows you to never get hit on Space Mama if you don't mess up. It takes randomness away from the fight: th-cam.com/video/TS2ea7M-MCs/w-d-xo.html
Q: What are you doing at 1:34:33?
A: I'm positioning myself in such a way that the cycle for the blue prickly balls is always the same if I maintain running speed after turning right. In order to ensure that, I perform a particular set of inputs that works 100% of the time. You can see these inputs on the Input Display in the top left corner.
Q: Shouldn't you get hit at 1:37:46?
A: The hitbox of Mr. Skops is much smaller than it looks. If you jump into him in that particular way when only two hitpoints are left, you can always avoid taking damage for the rest of the fight.
Q: There is no copy of Rayman chasing you on the second screen of the final level. How is that?
A: This game uses plenty of invisible trigger points for certain events. By running towards the very left of the screen and then performing a prolonged jump with the help of your helicopter you can skip the trigger point that makes Evil Rayman appear. You can see this in real time at 1:38:56.
Q: Why were you so nervous about "The Sisters" in the final boss battle?
A: There is a way to stunlock the bosses at 1:43:03 by hitting them rapidly. However, rarely the stunlock will break for seemingly no reason, resulting in a hit.

I've been playing Rayman on and off for the past 15 yrs, I'm a huge fan of it. I'm always trying to beat my own PBs but never joined the speed run community.
For practising a no hit speed run, is it better to start from scratch all over again every time you get hit, or just restart the current level or scene?
Keep practicing the same level/part of a level until you get it right. Then move on to the next and do the same. Eventually you'll be ready for a single segment run and then it will make sense to restart from the beginning.

This was the first 'no hit run' I've watched of Rayman, didn't know they existed lol found myself saying "this guys supposed to be good? He keeps missing checkpoints and extra lives the amateur!" too many times lol
