  • Come along as I try for a lifetime first, looking for a rare visiting bird to Norfolk, the Osprey. My luck wasn't great at first but as can happen with wildlife, things changed quickly and I had the best 5 minutes wildlife watching I have had so far this year!

      You're welcome. I think there may be a settings issue on my camera as it used to be a bit clearer than it currently is but I'll get that sorted for next time. Thanks for watching!

    Your luck was really in that day, Liam! How lovely to see the otter, osprey, harrier, GC grebes, GS woodpecker, and you mentioned a kingfisher flying past too - all great sightings! Days like that make it all worth while, don't they!!

    Beautiful video and great you saw the otter. You definitely have to keep your eyes alert all around as sometimes these sightings can be so fleeting and makes me think of all that we miss at times. Great work and thanks for upload.

    A really good haul there Liam. It looks like the activity below the waterline dictates wether or not these apex fish predators will appear, so, like buses they come in numbers or not at all! Plenty of extras also; I love watching pairs of great crested grebes.. Nice one Liam! 🌟👍

    Love you videos! I'm still yet to see a woodpecker or a kingfisher in the wild, despite living close to wooded areas and a river. I've also never seen a native wild UK snake either! But I did spot a white tailed se eagle a couple of years ago on a visit to Scotland, and that was 100% the best UK wildlife experience I've ever had.

    Lovely to see and you’ve summed up the wildlife photographer timeline perfectly. I was busy filming mating GCGs and ignored the nearby “Carp” surfacing in the reeds, turned out it was an otter 😖

    What a fun video, thanks for sharing. The male osprey has been a daily, hourly attraction since late March and remains sadly alone. He seems to have made his home at Ranworth for now, perhaps he'll meet more luck later in the season. Good otter footage, there're sightings most days and, occasionally, beneath the visitor centre's drawbridge. The Alder Hide can indeed be deathly quiet at times, but it's proving of benefit for the persistent with daily kingfisher and bullfinch sightings plus the occasional passing otter - and it's great for bat watching late in the day. So glad you got to see the osprey. 🙂

    I was at Thompson Water on Friday 28/4/23. I went on the trip on the off chance I might see an otter. I took a photo of what I thought was a buzzard on the far shore. On Sunday I went through the photos I took that day, only to find that the buzzard, was actually an osprey.

    Bit of a red letter day, or at least a red letter 5 minutes! Nice one Liam. Looking forward to your Osprey vid! Hope you get good views and footage. Rutland Water? Also, always good to see some fluffs to camera. I'm a one-take wizard personally. NOT!!! 😆 👍👍👍

    • @AShotOfWildlife
      @AShotOfWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Graham. I filmed 2 videos that day and the next one was perhaps even more exciting... 2 new species that I have never filmed before!
      Yes, I was thinking Rutland water, it isnt too far from where I went camping in september and I did say I would go back there and make a spring video so perhaps I will do 2 birds with one stone (or maybe even more than 2 if im lucky!)
      I am definitely getting better at speaking to the camera and have recently started to have a go at doing them in one take, with the authentic emotions that come with it but sometimes I cant get my words out properly the first time round. Cheers mate!

    • @AShotOfWildlife
      @AShotOfWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. As far as I'm aware, this osprey isn't ringed and as such, I have no idea of its origin. Ther has apparently been 2 others seen in the area recently so there's hope it may start nesting there this year.

    do ospreys and otters also feed on waterfowl and marine reptiles? considering that they are often found in ponds and lagoons

    • @AShotOfWildlife
      @AShotOfWildlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Raph. Otters definitely eat waterfowl and amphibians, I dont know if they come across reptiles very often but if and when they do, I suspect they would be prey also. Ospreys almost entirely feed on fish, but have been recorded occasionally taking aquatic mammals and birds.
