Sorry to be offtopic but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
Watching this, 7 years after it's made, and me getting into FPs for over a year now, I find this extremely helpful. Just expressing my immense gratitude for making this. 😊 💕 Too many gems in this video. Thank you, Brian and GP family.
Thanks! I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. We had to go through a couple of logo designs to get one that looked best in a half-tone engraving like this.
Well, I did put a comparison up in the Nib Nook at GouletPensdotcom, so you can check them out there. I'm glad you like my offering here, I'm really thrilled that we were able to make this happen.
The non-cartridge will be the tough part. Most pens in the sub-$35 range are cartridge/converter...granted, you can use a converter with bottled ink, so if it's just the use of bottled ink that you want, then that opens up your world. I would recommend either a Pilot Metropolitan (medium nib, but it's Japanese so it's like most pen's fine nibs), or a Noodler's Ahab with a Goulet #6 fine or extra-fine nib. You'll be all set then.
Congratulations, Goulets! Very important step, very well done. The fountain pen lovers say: thank you a lot! I hope the next goal is re-starting making fountain pens, of course!
Thanks! Yeah, in a weird way it was very fulfilling for me to be able to do these, it kind of helped me to come full-circle on a pen making hobby that I was never able to make into a successful business.
Thanks! Let me know how you like them :) I doubt I'll get rich from nibs, but it'll at least help me be able to do more cool stuff in the future. I appreciate the support!
Hi Briam, this is going to be the go-to demo for years to come... It's my personal need to use the Goulet nibs on Noodlers pens...they are really great.. I've done this on both my Jinhao 159s... Brilliant ...
I know that I'm late to the game here, but I just recently popped a Goulet 1.5mm stub on an extra Noodler's Ahab that I had laying around. The generous flow of the Ahab's feed and the stub are a match made in heaven. I also ended up putting a broad Goulet nib on an extra Jinhao X750, and it's so smooth that it rivals many of my gold nibs. Best steel nibs ever.
I know Nathan's constantly working to improve his pens. Ebonite is a whole different animal when it comes to manufacturing than plastic, so I'm not sure if that was a factor. In the grand scheme of things, the Konrad is still a very "young" pen, so it's very possible he will keep making changes for the better. I don't know what that means for the current resin Konrads though.
This is the most interesting InkNouveau I've seen so far, Brian, learning your history and your new adventure. Above all, you must be psychic because I broke my Ahab nib I ordered from you recently, trying to make it flow (talk about a "newbie tinkerer") so I really need one of your new nibs! I also hope you will get back to pen turning again one day.
Your nibs made the Noodler's Ahab usable, so I have two mugsful of them. I still buy Ahabs and always, install a Goulet nib as an after purchase add-on.
They look great. Ive grabbed two already. I was hoping someone would come up with a nib that would make an Ahab behave like a pen you can actually write normally with. So, now I have two great nibs, for ordinary writing, attached to a monstrous capacity of ink. The perfect combination. Buy now, and make Brian rich! :)
I hope we never have to go back to those early Noodler's pen days! You can only imagine what that was like as a retailer....we were going nuts! I'm glad you like the video, and the pretty nibs :)
I'm sorry! I was keeping this quiet until today :) Total surprise! It's been tough not to want to blab to everyone! We'll have them for a while though, we stocked up.
I played around with mine for a bit and wasn't able to set it in there without the piston hitting the feed. But if you're able to do it, more power to ya!
I was about to shoot you an e-mail asking wether or not something like this even existed. Fantastic idea, fantastic to see you achieve what clearly is a life-long goal, and I'm happy to be able to help a tiny bit. You'll be receiving an order for an Ahab and a 1.5 stub nib soon. Congratulations on fantastic work!
I see...but I don't have an answer for you. I don't know much about dip nibs. In general, if you are going to be putting a dip nib in a fountain pen, it's going to take quite a bit of finagling. It's quite a hack, and even if you get it in, that doesn't mean it'll flow well. I think you're asking about the inside of the grip on the two pens, where the nib and feed fit in? The Ahab is more oval to accommodate the nib, the Konrad is just a straight hole. I show this in the video.
I'm ecstatic for these nibs and, must get some. In other news...Brian, I know he's busy, and you may not have this much pull, but If u could give Mr. Tardiff the thumbs up to change all Konrad, ebonite or otherwise, to the specifications of the ebonite pens. It is absolutely magnificent, and a great evolution for Noodlers Inc. and the modern fountain pen!
Indeed! I am still waiting on Nathan for more ebonite Konrads...we're seeing the effects of a one-man operation with the delay of these pens, no doubt.
I'm left handed and bought a flex pen, which I know wasn't recommended. The noodlers creeper it now one of my favorites. I love the flex and encourage left handed people to try flex pen writing. It's difficult at first but worth the practice.
+Dustin Canfield I encourage everyone to try writing with a flex pen. It's such a unique writing experience. What are your top inks for using in your flex pens? - Colin
A review of the Parker converter? It's just a standard piston-screw converter, nothing particularly special except that it only fits Parker pens (and Aurora, I think).
Hey Brian, a word of advice on the Konrad , if you set the feed where the tip of the feed is low on the nib, around the breather hole. Push it in the pen just to where it holds than push just the nib in it will set "normally" with nib out to a normal length and the feed not protruding into the body, I know because I use a #6 LABAN nib in my Konrad and all sets normal and nicely
I'd love to see a comparison between your italics and the Lamy italics...and whatever others are this inexpensive (at least for someone who already owns an Ahab). I'm curious if your nib offers any difference other than being a standard nib. Anyway, congratulations! This seems like a dream come true--a standard pen with loads of standard nib options! In the knife community we sometimes lament the lack of an offering with our favorite blade AND handle, but you're working to change that here.
Awesome! I wondered if this video would be considered too 'rambly', and I'm sure it's way too long for most people. I could have chopped it up into multiple videos but what the hey. I still might. But if there was ever a product that needed a backstory, it would be these nibs. As for the pen turning, I highly, highly doubt that will happen.
OMG it's sooooo pretty!!!! I LOVE it!!! I really liked this video! LOL and yes I remember when Noodler's flex first came out. Sold out in a few minutes and out of stock for 6 months... If ever I saw them in a B&M I nabbed them up ASAP.
Although now I think about it, the TWSBIs now use JoWo nibs anyhow, so at least I get the same quality even if it's not Goulet-branded. But thanks for the info, Brian. Congrats on the nibs -- I'm definitely ordering some for my Noodler's.
Hey Brian, I currently have a Medium Kaweco nib in my Creaper Flex, and I typically use either Private Reserve DC Supershow Green or Noodler's HoD. I find that both inks tend to write VERY wet, and it can sometimes take a few minutes for my writing to actually dry, which can be a problem when I'm writing a lot in classes and I have to flip the page, because it tends to smudge. Would an EF or F Goulet Nib help me? I want it to be mostly dry after writing, and have less leaking in the cap.
uhhhh....if it's the same size, probably okay. But it's not going to work great, dip nibs are a different breed. I know Stephen Brown did a video putting a Brause Rose nib in his pen (not sure which pen, actually, might have been an Ahab...). It flexed like crazy, but was a son-of-a-gun to write continuously.
well, i'm thinking about the diameter and curvature in the back of the nib. Is that equivalent of the noodler flex nib? Thinking about buying an Ahab if this is possible. Is the ebonite more round than the ahab?
It's 2019, and my Konrad has the same sort of groove in the nib holder section as you describe in the Ahab. So it'll only go in one way and work properly. I can't just jam it in whatever way I like. (I know, I tried.) Maybe Noodler's tweaked the design a little between then and now?
My understanding is that the design is just inconsistent with that groove. Some variations have it, some don't so we can't reliably say a nib will fit one way or not. - Colin
Hello sir I love watching your videos. There is a lot to learn. I believe you are friends with Mr. Nathan Noodler. Maybe you can write a book with him on the fountain pen repair, design and philosophy of fountain pens Best regards
How much bounce does the EF nib have? Stiff like the Lamys? Or bounce like the TWSBI Mini or Pelikan And how wet will it write in the Ahab? There is a wide feed for an EF
I believe the collar on both the Konrad & Neponset have changed recently so it doesn't fit 100% of the time now. Don't want to recommend the nibs if there's a chance they won't fit. - Colin
Any plans on making an equivalent of a japanese EF? I know the market would probably be small but for those of us that like a hairline they are pretty tough to find
Would you consider adding 0.6 and 0.8 stub nibs. I really like the stub writing experience, but sometimes I'd love to get a finer line out of my stubs.
Hmmm...does it do this with the Noodler's nib in it, too? It could be a pen thing and not have anything to do with the nib (that's what I greatly suspect). Shoot an email to orders@gouletpens (dot) com and Katy can help you out.

Our nibs come in little baggies. Safe in transport, but not a real permanent solution for housing the nib it replaces. Ink sample vials could be a good option though (www.gouletpens.com/products/goulet-empty-ink-sample-vials?variant=11884650364971 ) and yes, the 999 Dragon does swap with our Goulet #6 nibs! - Colin

I will say that the ebonite in the feeds is pretty resilient and malleable so it could work just fine with the stub nib! - Colin
I don't think so. I'm not aware of Jowo making that a regularly available nib, so it's not something I could easily get. Sorry! I'll look into it though.
Oh. Well I guess it's a good thing that I didn't purchase one then. Perhaps I'll just buy a new pen. When I say "Under $35 smooth writing, non-cartridge pen with a fine nib" what pen comes to mind?
Anybody willing to provide me with some input: Would it be worthwhile to switch one of these nibs for the nib that was included with my TWSBI Diamond 580? Or am I already using a superior nib?
ooo...yeah, that would be something. I don't know about that, I'm in quite a different life stage than I was back when I was making pens, I'm not sure I could afford a hobby that leeches money out of my wallet ;)
Your videos are a gift to newbies....

I honestly have no idea, I'm not familiar with Serwex at all. If it uses a #6 size nib though, it should.
Thanks, Brian! That's exactly what I needed to know!
Haha, always good to hear :)
You like those? They're actually from my childhood. My mom brought them to me a few days ago, along with a bunch of Hot Wheels :)
Just referred back to this to check what the nib-feed alignment should be after they got loose. :)

Hey Brian, wondering if these would fit a serwex mb, as sold by fountain pen revolution?
Will these fit in a TWSBI 540 or the new 580? Or do you have a size planned which will?
how does a normal dip-pen nib fit in the ahab?
Hi Colin....thanks for your prompt response...will follow your advice and get this once am in Philly...what about flex nibs that I could buy off you for fitting onto a Jinhao 950 porcelain pen?

How are your nibs packaged; do they provide a safe place to store the nib they're replacing?
I have a Herringbone in EF and it writes beautifully but I would love a 1.5 for something completely different. I wouldn't want to damage the original while it's swapped.
Also, the linked video lists several Jinhaos, including the x750 which I'm considering. However, I'm also considering the 999 Dragon, in Black. I don't like Medium nibs. Do your nibs fit the Dragon?
Thanks. These videos are amazing resources!
Our nibs come in little baggies. Safe in transport, but not a real permanent solution for housing the nib it replaces. The thing is, the pen writes very well now, and I am hesitant to heat set my feed to a new nib. Is there any way that I can acquire a new feed to go along with my new nib?

I will say that the ebonite in the feeds is pretty resilient and malleable so it could work just fine with the stub nib! - Colin
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.
I don't think so. I'm not aware of Jowo making that a regularly available nib, so it's not something I could easily get. Sorry! I'll look into it though.
Are you going to carry wider stubs 1.9 mm 2mm 2.4mm?
Will your nibs fit a jinhao fountain pen
Thanks for this vid, Brian!
Which nib produces a line similar to that of the standard Ahab nib (writing finely, without flex)? EF? F? M?
How can I get goulet nibs in India?
Yep, I understand what you're talking about. My hobby is buying fountain pens! Lol.
Does this fit a TWSBI 580?
Or am I already using a superior nib?
are all the goulet nibs FLEX?
They are not flex nibs. Just your standard sizing, but the stub nib can achieve some line variation. - Colin
cool!
i want it!
Woohooo! I can't wait to try them out :)
Do you still make pens?😎
P.S. I mean I ordered the Ahab PEN, not just the nib which I distorted in my effort to tinker.

Does it fit on the pilot metropolitan ?
+Yamen Halim The Metropolitan has a proprietary nib which isn't #6, so the Goulet nib would not fit. - Colin
+The Goulet Pen Company thanks

Can I put one on a TWSBI 580?
John Hayward Unfortunately a Goulet nib will not fit on the TWSBI 580. -Margaret
