- If you are a 33rpm VINYL record collector, you know how common it is to find bent covers when you find albums in the WILD. In this video, I am taking the techniques of Comic Book Pressing (Pressing comic books is truly an “art form” in itself) and applying them to correcting common bends in Record Album Covers without doing any additional damage to them! Trust me...pressing bends out of Vinyl Record covers is EASY and I hope you allow me to show you first hand with a cover from a Record I picked up yesterday!
Never worry about a record album cover that’s bent again!
Remember, use distilled water to steam for about 2-3 min
I then sandwich the cover in Teflon sheets.
I have a thin aluminum sheet that I got from Home Depot on the bottom of the unheated table of the press
And I set the press to 174/175 degrees using my digital heat monitor.
I close the press with heat on for about 2 minutes
After 2 minutes I turn the heat off and let it cool and keep pressure on the cover for an additional 4 hours.
So far I’ve pressed laminated covers, glossy cardboard and flat cardboard covers successfully
*****Please note, I do NOT guarantee results…our equipment is all different but I want to share what I have done successfully!

Amazing
Thank you so much for watching my friend! I really hope it helps you! I get so many improperly stored records and now, I fix them up good as new writhing hours!
Thanks for this video, just need to get a press!
I’m so glad you found this video interesting. By the way, I got mine years ago on eBay. They are not too expensive. I also use mine to press comics (by far the majority of the use) but I will say, if you have a garment steamer…the steam will relax the album cover fibers and though you wouldn’t have a heating aspect of an actual press, I bet you could pile books on a hard flat surface on top of the cover and accomplish a majority of what would be needed to flatten a record cover. The only thing I am unsure of in that scenario is if mold might form because of the moisture without a heating element.
I’ve seen other techniques where you would put the cover in the oven between glass and heat at 100 degrees (or lowest setting). Seems like that would work in combination with your steaming?
@ yes, in fact, while I never tried it, I suspect steaming a cover and just pressing it in a cool area between 2 pieces of wood with a 10-15 pound weight in it would probable do the trick. I actually prefer the heat press just to speed up the removal of any moisture. If there wasn’t a heat element the neurotic side of me might worry about mold. I checked my oven and my lowest setting is 150 degrees. That would probably do it fine. And I’d only leave the oven on a minute or so. The heat is just needed to remove the moisture. The steam would relax the paper fibers no problem.
