Great video. I recently also fixed a ti-59 card read issue by replacing the lm324 that had failed. My 33uf caps were fine. Other issues that can cause improper reads are dirty heads, improper feed speed, bad gummy capstan. The tricky one is a dirty head, you can clean them with ipa and still fail but the abrasive cleaning card will fix it. Others report using a white eraser on the head also resolve it. Both methods remove surface contamination you can't easily see...
Very useful thanks as trying to repair a TI-59 with board corrosion from battery vapours. Caps and LM324 fail tests as yours did. Do you have a source / maker's model code for the 33uF caps. UK suppliers list a 2V Kemet small enough but lead times to stock next year. Also odd keyboard problems, accepts numbers, calcs squares and reciprocals but not square roots and logs where it hangs. Not sure if a logic chip or keypad problem.
Damn that sucks... Yes over here in the US its also back ordered now till jan... Use a meter and be sure they are failed. But yea, most likely. Its the size that sucks. There is no room in there with a batter in place or the printer hooked up. It might be possible to use a very slightly smaller uF. A 27uf or even 22uf *MIGHT* work. So maybe you can find some of those.. Its these Kemet parts.. 2V..

Yes, in stock in the UK as well now although pricing per cap seems high here in the UK.@@xymox1357
If I remember well, the use of ti59 without battery connected was not allowed. This may be the cause of ic and capacitors failure.
Nice video. Which end of the caps is the positive?
