Be sure to visit the Milwaukee Public Museum and check out "Streets of Old Milwaukee" exhibit in the next year or two if you can! The museum is moving to a brand-new building in 2026 and won't be taking a number of its classic and iconic exhibits with them because they're literally built *into* the old building itself, and the Streets of Old Milwaukee is one of them, unfortunately. It's been the most popular part of the whole museum since it first opened back in the 1960s and everyone is bummed it won't be making the transition to the new location. So go and see it while you still can!
We love Milwaukee. We stay at the Hotel Phister. One of the oldest hotels and beautiful architecture. Another neat history place behind the Brewers stadium is one of the oldest VA hospital areas. There is a large modern VA but there is this Victorian village behind along with a cemetery. It was one of the first commissioned by Lincoln due to the Civil War and was built in the late 1800’s. Also don’t miss the Wisconsin State Fair in August and get a cream puff.
The cream puffs are over-hyped and not worth the wait. Huge lines so I went around the corner and got a creamy scoop of vanilla custard with maple syrup. Simple & delicious!
I love the Milwaukee Public Museum. As a kid the giant Tyrannosaur eating the Triceratops display was the coolest thing ever and then the deep ocean monsters right after it like the giant White shark are still great!
Leon's custard is good, but I like the daily rotation of flavors they offer at Kopp's. Sprecher makes soft drinks AND beer, and they offer tours. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Miller brewery tour; it's interesting to see production on a mass scale. In late June there's the Downer Classic bicycle race through the streets of the Downer Avenue neighborhood on the (north) Eastside. The Wisconsin State Fair takes place in adjacent West Allis in early August. For different eats, try the Serbian food at Three Brothers or the Vietnamese at Hué, both in the Bayview neighborhood (SE side) which has lots of other cool shops and restaurants. Lastly, when a Milwaukee hotel employee asked where I was from, I laughingly said, "Oh, I'm a FIB" (which BTW actually stands for F***ing Illinois B******). He got a little red in the face, laughed, and said, "You're not supposed to know about that." Wisconsinites have a love/hate relationship with Illinoisans. They love the money we spend in their state, but they hate our aggressive driving and attitude. If you remember to dial it down several notches, be "Midwestern nice," and DON'T DISS THE PACKERS you'll be okay.

I agree that it gets pretty cold in Milwaukee during winter. I live in the suburbs but I'm a city girl at heart. I stay at hotels on downtown Water Street a lot. I walk everywhere in the winter. Just dress warmly & tough it out for a few blocks. There are several skywalks that help make the walk a little easier. A lot of people don't know about using them. They're not just for connecting businesses.

The thing I love about Milwaukee is that it will basically always exceed people’s expectations because it’s got such a poor reputation. Compare that to a city like Paris that people have overly romanticized into such an amazing place that when they do visit it almost seems like a let down. With Milwaukee most people go in expecting very little and are then pleasantly surprised by what the city actually offers.
Agreed! My first visit to downtown Milwaukee was an eye opener! Ended up buying a condo on the river in the Third Ward in 2019 and have called Milwaukee home ever since
We were just there for Summerfest. We go every year. One of the best. Great music, food and your right on the lakefront. If you haven’t been I highly recommend for next year!

I want to check out the supper clubs that are still around in this state
Another market to add is El Rey’s. Mexican market with great food. Probably not as good as Mexican food you’d find in California, Texas, and obviously Mexico, but it’s really good and worth a visit
Leon's is the BEST frozen custard. Growing up as a family we use to go to Milwaukee a couple of times of year for events and every trip included a stop at Leon's.
Just a few comments/suggestions. You listed the Pabst Mansion but showed the Pabst Theater (they're 2 different places). For architecture enthusiasts, while showing the Calatrava designed Art Museum (unfortunately the "wings" at the top were closed - not your fault) you can walk into the stunning main interior space for free. Milwaukee and the surrounding area also has about a dozen Frank Lloyd Wright homes and buildings. Thanks for the Milwaukee video - my home town.
If you're coming up from Chicago, don't forget that Amtrak's Hiawatha trains are quick and convenient. You don't have to put up with that horrid traffic in Chicagoland. My husband and I were visiting friends in Chicago and we used the Hiawatha for a day trip to Milwaukee.
found this VERY informative-Milwaukee looks like a nice place to visit-was not aware of the many museums there-one nitpick I do have is I saw the local transit and you mention the free service on 1 route-is it better to use the transit there alone, or to use Uber and Lyft as well to get around that city ? food and markets also look interesting-keep up the great work
@@bryanbabiarz3598 I would suggest checking out the bus system, too. It's a pretty comprehensive system, decently affordable, and timely! The UMO app will get you where you need to go, discounted rates for single to monthly passes, and live tracking. Bublr Bikes for trips bike traditional and e-bikes!
Being from Chicago I do the following when I visit Wisconsin - I check out The Bavarian Bierhaus - sporting events - Wisconsin dells - consume diary - most importantly drink spotted cow.
I love that you showed Rochambo! One of my favorite coffee spots in Milwaukee - I would go there in college and study. Have you been to At Random? Super fun tiki bar (not for kids) but really kitch. The Domes are awesome and the zoo is really nice. And you've got to love Mader's for a good German meal.
Wow, Mark, you hit all! Glorioso’s and the Domes and the ice cream. My only other suggestion would be don’t miss a game at Miller Park if into baseball. A really nice place and the prices are not prohibitive- at least last I knew. The symphony and theater scene are also pretty good, and not sky high expensive. Thanks for the great job on my hometown! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
One place you do need to visit in Milwaukee is the Safe House. It is a spy-themed restaurant at 779 N Front St, However, you will need to know the password to get in... or you'll be asked to perform some silly antics (which is on the tvs in the restaurant). Another great Brewery is the Rock Bottom Brewery. there you can sit at the bar and see the next batch of beer in the fermentation tanks.
I live in Milwaukee and I once lived down the street from Laverne & Shirley!! Those were some Happy Days with the Fonz and Cunninghams. Glad you enjoyed our great city on a great lake 🌊🤗
Bayview is a great community just south of the Third Ward. Lots of restaurants and bars (our son owns Voyager in Bayview - a wine and spirits bar with cheeses, olives, sardines from Portugal, Italy, etc). South Shore Park on the lake in Bayview is really nice.
You hit that on the mark if you tell folks you are from Illinois. However, this is also one way to get out of those Wisconsin conversations where they don't let you escape. I'm not from Illinois but I say I am when I want to end a conversation. Great coverage of Wisconsin, and there is so much more that was looked over. Also, winter's haven't been really anything in Wisconsin the last 8ish years. Lots to do in the winter too!
For a unique bit of history, don’t forget to visit the St Joan of Arc chapel on the Marquette University campus. The chapel was originally built in France in the early 1400s, and visited by Joan of Arc in 1429. The chapel was abandoned after the French Revolution, and sort of rediscovered in the early 1900s. The chapel was originally reconstructed in New York before being gifted to the university in the 1960s.
I was just in Milwaukee a couple months ago so I immediately recognized the pink birdies in the thumbnail and when I realized it was also a Wolter's World video, even better. 😊 You can also go inside the historic City Hall and the Basilica of Saint Josephat huge church room. The most impressive thing for me about the city are the Urban Ecology Centers(3 total) that are community areas that work to preserve the natural environment and also act as a lounge or place to learn and volunteer for anyone who wants to. I also checked out the Gordon Bath House ruins from when German was the most spoken language in the city in the late 1800s. Only the front wall remains as a buffer between the building and the Milwaukee River although the river was quite far away so I'm not sure if it was just low tide, if the river has moved, or the water levels are lower now
Also recommend Waukesha, Oconomowoc & Cedarburg for great shops. I grew up NW of Milwaukee, it sure has changed! Park Ave night club was great in 80's!
As a local Milwaukeean There's few things to talk about that you started on, but went no where near. *1* The Beaches - We have more beaches than the cement path you showed behind the art museum. Bradford Beach is just down the road and it's world class. South Shore Beach/park is one of the best lakefront areas to take your family to. Ok fine, don't go in the water there, but the park itself is amazing and it's got a great beer garden. DOn't forget about Doctors park, Grant Park (7 bridges), and the other amazing parks up down the shoreline. *2* Markets - We have more than the public Market. DOn't get me wrong, I love the Public Market, but there are so much more. The neighborhoods in Milwaukee love their local shops. I've been going to Groppi's in Bay View for 40 years it's changed a lot in that time but its still got the feel of the old polish market it once was. *3* Sure the winters are cold, but we still know how to have fun when it snows. Don't just come when the weather is nice. Visit us for our winter events too! No one has more fun than someone with a cold beer and freshly baked giant pretzel in a foot of snow. *4* Visit everywhere. This video shows about a 5 mile radius in Milwaukee, but there is so much more. Our neighborhoods are all different with with different vibes and you really should check them all out. From Downtown to Harambe, to Greendale, to Shorewood. Take it all in! *5* We are the epitome of Midwest nice. Grab a seat fill your glass and lets have a good time! There are no strangers in the 414 (unless you're a Bears fan).
Any time I go to Chicago, Cubs games at Wrigley or deal with Illini in Lake Geneva or the cabin neighbors next to me in the Dells, "FIBS" lol are always friendly and cool with me. If not for tourism from Illinois we wouldn't have places like Door County, the Dells and many other hot spots that make WI great.
I lived in Madison for a few years going to school there great college town, but I never made it to Milwaukee but now I think I’ll have to check it out
Thank you for doing MKE!! Yes, we are very proud of it! I’m so sorry about what happened at the parking valet! Downtown is actually very clean and safe. An extra friendly and massive neighborhood in Milwaukee is Bayview. Next time you make it back, remember to get a cocktail at Bryant’s or At Random!
I've been looking into a nice small city to relocate to, and Milwaukee is towards the top of the list. I'm fron NY and our climates are virtually the same, I like snow and cold weather, love german food and drink, but I want to live in a smaller scale city with a lot of natural beauty and interesting architecture. Based off this video, I think I'd be happy there, only thing is, whats the job market like there, and how dog friendly is it?
Maybe similar to upstate(Syracuse, Rochester or Buffalo), but not NYC. Much colder in the winter and often quite a bit warmer with humidity in the summer than NYC.
Hi Wolters, greetings from Colombia. I was in Chicago and Milwaukee 3 weeks ago. I felt in love with these beautiful cities. I have a doubt, Has Milwaukee a metro (Subway) system ?, I didn't see any station. Thanks.
Don't miss visiting our Best Irish restaurant, County Clare Irish Inn and Pub. It opened in 1996 and it wins the best Irish Pub year after year. The food, service and atmosphere cannot be missed. Located on the East side of Milwaukee, it is only blocks from Lake Michigan.
Don't miss out on visiting Waukesha if you're in the Milwaukee area either. Super short drive all things considered and you get to see a charming town with a lot of great history (especially if you're into rock music because it's the birthplace of THE one and only Les Paul!) and surprisingly fun collegiate athletics at Carroll U (Go Pios!). They got some bad press a few years back because of a single bad incident that has spoiled search engine results ever since then but they're so much more than that.
Visited there from Atlanta when our daughter was working on a Masters at UWM - an excellent school! The best breakfast I've ever had in the entire world was at the Pfizer Hotel. Also, Milwaukee (the most segregated city in the USA) has a world class symphony and excellent youth arts programs. I loved visiting there - and the people were mid-western kind.
So why did you have to suddenly throw in Milwaukee being the most “segregated “city in the US seems a bit odd that you would just randomly put that in there and yes, some cities are primarily white Atlanta primarily black is that considered segregation?
I drive up from Chicago at least twice a month for the last 4 years. I have never had a weird look being from here. A large group of the city is actually from Chicago.
A tradition in Milwaukee is the Friday Night Fish Fry, this isn’t just during lent, it’s all year. During lent they’re hosted by churches. Also, visit the different neighborhoods like Riverwest, Bayview and Wauwatosa. Lastly, there are beer gardens located throughout the city and some are temporary and move to a different park every week.
I can't believe you showed "Zayna's" on Brady street. I have lived within 5 blocks of that place for 25 years. I ate there once. It is bulk frozen food thrown into a deep fryer. Glorioso's however is glorious!
Eyyyy! Welcome to my city! Why the heck were you even here?! I literally left the country to escape the RNC. I always recommend the Villa Terrace and the Pabst Mansion and you GOTTA go on a tour of Great Lakes Distillery and Lakefront Brewery. Thanks for giving this place a video :)
Neigborhoods Downer Ave on the upper east side. Lots of pleasant shops, restaurants, and only a short walk to the lake. North Ave between Oakland Ave and the lake front. Lots a good places to go. Hooligan’s, Von Trier, and the oriental theater. Bayview lovely place on kinnickinnic Ave. Bluemound heights and story hill. Great places to go before a Brewer game. Miller Brewery is very cool. County Clare Irish pub and Inn Swingin’ door exchange Oakland Gyro Collectivo coffee of the lakefront Southshore park beer garden Estabrook park beer garden Juneau park beer garden And last but not least all the theaters for the performing arts. A must see.
It's technically not a museum, but I'd also recommend visiting Best Place. It's the pilot house of the original Pabst Brewery, and they have a really interesting tour and a super cool collection.
Sprecher brewery also runs a traveling beer garden in various parks around Milwaukee County between May and September. There are also many other beer gardens all over the area between spring and fall.
The sad part of Milwaukee is that many of the people that live within the city despise it - something I never really understood living in Milwaukee for year myself. Sure, it has its bad parts but even in those parts there is a lot of culture of good spots to discover. I think people see a certain community and automatically think it's ghetto or isn't for them but they'd be surprise what they find if they took a chance to explore a little.
I think it’s okay to tell them you’re from Illinois. They won’t like that you’re from there but I don’t think I’ve heard of someone stopping the conversation once they heard you’re from Illinois. I do kind of respect it though
I always figure if I ever go to Wisconsin, I truly wanna try some fresh cheese curds. All that other stuff looked great too. I'm in Florida. The last time I ever had really good super fresh cheese curds was when I went to Canada.
My biggest Don't, is don't sleep on MKE. I travel a lot for work and I have been thoroughly surprised by this city. Esp in the summer it is worth a stop
Here's a don't we learned the hard way. We went to an opera in the third Ward in February and we're driving around 0°F the next day and stopped at Miller Park. We went inside thinking it would be heated. It was not! What was heated was the restaurant inside, Fridays I believe? It was zero outside and you go into some doors and you don't expect it to be zero inside! They were apparently exposing that field to all the natural elements, year-round. We found a warm place but it was about a hundred more feet farther than we thought it would be.
If you enjoy bicycling, Milwaukee and the suburbs have an excellent network of bicycle trails as does the State of Wisconsin as a whole.

Being from Chicago I do the following when I visit Wisconsin
- I check out The Bavarian Bierhaus
- sporting events
- Wisconsin dells
- consume diary
- most importantly drink spotted cow.
Don’t worry about mosquitoes. I’ve never had to use bug spray in Milwaukee. Northern Wisconsin sometimes.
Love it. I’ll be hitting Milwaukee in September.
Thanks for the love! We’ve been in the Brady Street neighborhood for a decade on the East Side and love the history and energy.
I really liked that area. Have a great week!
Good to.see the GERMAN -POLISH FOODS IN MILWAUKEE.!!💯💯💯🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Finally!!!! Prof Wolters visits my HOMETOWN!!! Teach, I know you are a Fighting Illini, but I gotta say “On Wisconsin!” ❤️👍🏽🍺
Oooh gotta try Voyager. It’d be my first.
Milwaukeean: Hi Mark. Nice to meet you. Where are you from?
Mark: Oh, well I'm a fellow Midwesterner.
😆
I'm a OLD FART TOO Mark...I remember seeing the Re-runs of Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley..💯💯😒😒🙏😒
I enjoyed this video. Wonderful scenery. 😊❤
Let me know when you’re in Mke again! I’ll bring the cheese curds!
I was just in Milwaukee a couple months ago so I immediately recognized the pink birdies in the thumbnail and when I realized it was also a Wolter's World video, even better. 😊
You can also go inside the historic City Hall and the Basilica of Saint Josephat huge church room.
Love this city.
And while I'm not a Harley guy, I absolutely LOVED the H-D museum.
I beg to difffer. The dells/baraboo are used to be good in the 80s/90s before it was heavily infiltrated by Illinois
Former Milwaukeean, I may have missed it in the video, but Brew City MKE is awesome its a Beer Museum and Bar ran by the Historic Society.
Don’t forget that Milwaukee is just a 90 minute Amtrak from Chicago, with several trips throughout the day.
I rolled through Milwaukee last well on Amtraks Empire Builder. Maybe will spend more time there in the future.
Omg you were in my area! Excited to see what you recommend
I love your PG version of what a FIB is lol.
Don't sleep on Pittsburgh.
Maybe similar to upstate(Syracuse, Rochester or Buffalo), but not NYC. Much colder in the winter and often quite a bit warmer with humidity in the summer than NYC.
Dogs are not allowed to work in Milwaukee
Mark, you’re a Friendly Illinois Buddy who is always welcome. 😆
I drive up from Chicago at least twice a month for the last 4 years. I have never had a weird look being from here. A large group of the city is actually from Chicago.
Born, raised, and still live in Milwaukee. This is a nice video.
***THE*** single best Milwaukee experience for visitors is Lakefront Brewer's Friday Fish Fry with a polka band 🎺🍻🪗
Don't forget it's a short hop on Amtrak between Chicago and Milwaukee.
Leon’s and Kopp’s both amazing
Great video! Thank you very much for sharing! Like 471
If you want to get out on Lake Michigan, stop by the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. Odds are someone will take you sailing.
You referenced Bio Dome! 😂 love it.
Hey hey Jim the bin gin din bing Jing sing ling ting oing ziongggg
Neigborhoods
Downer Ave on the upper east side.
County Clare Irish pub and Inn
Swingin’ door exchange
Oakland Gyro
Collectivo coffee of the lakefront
Southshore park beer garden
Estabrook park beer garden
Juneau park beer garden
And last but not least all the theaters for the performing arts. A must see.
Gies alum here! Great video. I-L-L...
What? Downtown is fun in the winter! Christmas lights, Ice Skating downtown.. Like any mid-westerner, Dress Warm.
It's technically not a museum, but I'd also recommend visiting Best Place. It's the pilot house of the original Pabst Brewery, and they have a really interesting tour and a super cool collection.
I want a redo on Chicago 😂
Love your videos ✊🏽 you're living one of my dreams. 😁
Wow amazing 😻
Sprecher brewery also runs a traveling beer garden in various parks around Milwaukee County between May and September. There are also many other beer gardens all over the area between spring and fall.
We may joke about Illinois, but they are actually ok and help our economy.
You can't afford lake property up north thanks to them though.
I beg to differ, I’m from east troy/alpine valley area. It’s miserable. We can do without
Outstanding 😍
Milwaukee sure is one of the prettiest cities out there🤍
The sad part of Milwaukee is that many of the people that live within the city despise it - something I never really understood living in Milwaukee for year myself. Sure, it has its bad parts but even in those parts there is a lot of culture of good spots to discover. I think people see a certain community and automatically think it's ghetto or isn't for them but they'd be surprise what they find if they took a chance to explore a little.
Lived in Milwaukee my entire life (over 50 years) never heard of this or experienced it.
It’s usually those from the suburbs that say ridiculous things about the city.
Great video. Don’t forget to check out some of the parks, you can go for some great hikes in the woods along the lake
I think it’s okay to tell them you’re from Illinois. They won’t like that you’re from there but I don’t think I’ve heard of someone stopping the conversation once they heard you’re from Illinois. I do kind of respect it though
I know. But it wqs funny at gloriosos that they lady said... "oh" and that kind of ended the conversation at the check out 😀
@@woltersworld yeah probably a good idea to keep that lowkey
Just don’t mention da bears, and you should be ok…and watch your driving! 😊
Crazy. Just spent the last 2 weeks in Italy and Germany, using much of your advice.
I get back and you’re in my hometown.
Awesome stuff!
hope yo had a great trip! we had a fun time in MIlwaukee
😂😂😂. So funny you had a fibs section, I’m from lake Geneva, alpine valley area and had sky high blood pressure courtesy of the fibs
I always figure if I ever go to Wisconsin, I truly wanna try some fresh cheese curds. All that other stuff looked great too. I'm in Florida. The last time I ever had really good super fresh cheese curds was when I went to Canada.
My boy brings curds home to me when he visits. I love them
Really useful video!
You should have added the bicycle driven party bar carriage...haha
French Dip sandwiches are awesome! Miss having them.
The Beer Gardens are also top tier. My favorite hangout spots.
true. they are fun there
My biggest Don't, is don't sleep on MKE. I travel a lot for work and I have been thoroughly surprised by this city. Esp in the summer it is worth a stop
Really enjoying your videos 🎉
Here's a don't we learned the hard way. We went to an opera in the third Ward in February and we're driving around 0°F the next day and stopped at Miller Park. We went inside thinking it would be heated. It was not! What was heated was the restaurant inside, Fridays I believe? It was zero outside and you go into some doors and you don't expect it to be zero inside! They were apparently exposing that field to all the natural elements, year-round. We found a warm place but it was about a hundred more feet farther than we thought it would be.
Perfect 👌
Go a few miles north to the Sprecher brewery for some root beer and beer tasting !
