This channel has become my favourite on youtube in the past two years. I know that it probably sounds cheesy, but thank you for what you do. These videos are an absolutely treat every week, and I don't think that I just speak for myself when I say: the effort is greatly appreciated.
Only 40k subs is insane, your videos have the level of polish expected from someone with a few hundred thousand at least. I don't go out of my way to comment on TH-cam much but I genuinely appreciate the time you spend on this content and I hope your channel gets the algorithm on its side so it gets the growth it deserves.
You deserve way more than 40k subscribers because you make crazy good videos and you put all your efforts into them. I hope it snowballs from here on and that you'll soon celebrate 100k!

As a kid I had the Colosseum bonus disk and got Jirachi, but I loved the idea that it was all about wishes. So I built it to be tanky and stalling with Wish, Doom Desire, Protect, and Cosmic Power. Build defenses, heal, and delayed attacks. I always wanted pokemon to have their signature moves and fight like their pokedex entries said they would.
Have been watching your videos for the past year and a half now. I absolutely love waking up Saturday morning(Aus) to see a new upload from you. I watch it while I have breakfast to start my day. Keep up the great work legend!

Just got to the question about future mons in a past gen and I'd love to see Donphan in Yellow. The first pokemon movie with Donphan blew me away as a kid. How Ash wasn't floored seeing a new pokemon is beyond me. Love the videos!

Congrats on the 40k. As a fellow Canadian, I'd love to see a region based on our country. While I know Poison/Ground has been done, I think having either a regional version of Grimer or a brand new pokemon that was based on the tar sands might be a little better than just a generic oil drum. Also, Bidoof. We'd need a regional version of Bidoof.

Rewatched this today, and I didn't remember you having mentioned liking Tool and Children of Bodom before. I have liked CoB since I was in highschool over a decade ago now, and saw them in concert 5 or 6 years ago, but Tool is a band I recently started appreciating myself. I am loving the psychadelic feel they have, especially on Lateralus and 10,000 Days. Keep up the good work, Scott. Love all the videos, and it's great to get to know a bit more about your background and process for making these videos in the sub milestone videos.
10,000 Days is awesome. Their music is certainly psychedelic, just look at the Schism music video. That one lives somewhere between my dreams and my nightmares.

Of all the genres you listed of music, I’m surprised math rock/Midwest emo aren’t on your list. Super technical guitar playing, abstract time signatures, and interesting chord extensions and voices - but make it pop punk. It’s got it all, man! And of course, congrats on the 40k! Gotta be a weird feeling to have literally thousands of people affirm you’re doing a good job. 99.99% of the world never gets that.

I love this content and I love your perspective and take on things. I think your underlying brilliance is the best part of the content and is has really flourished with your dynamic overlays. In your older videos, you can tell that it is there, you just didnt quite have the tools to put it all together.

40k, keeps on rising and improving. Really respect your work + growth as a content creator! On the run... I hoped Jirachi would do better. My first thought for Steven was Leftovers + Sub Calm Mind. Unfortunately both Substitute and Lefties take detours (beating last rival to gain access to the tutor atop dept store + exploring SS Tidal after becoming champion), so I am not sure whether that is optimal.

Congrats Scott! And thanks for this lovely and very entertaining video, can't wait for the 50k subscriber one. As for Jirachi's moveset near the end of the run, I think it could be improved further with Substitute. The substitute move tutor is on the roof of the Lilycove department store. The AI doesn't really know how to deal with you having a substitute, and they tend to spam status moves, which does feel a little cheap but it would help a lot with Sidney and Phoebe. You could run Substitute/Calm Mind/Wish/Hidden Power Fire for Sidney and set up on Mightyena behind the Substitute to avoid Sand Attack, switch the last moveslot to Shadow Ball for Phoebe, then to Psychic for the last 3 fights. The AI for the Elite 4 in Emerald is programmed to always use a status move the first turn. Against Steven, I think you could use HP Fire again as it's super effective against Skarmory and Metagross, and neutral against the rest. You could easily set up Substitute and Calm Minds against Skarmory, though I have to say your solution to this fight was also super creative! Thanks again for the awesome content!
just came back to watch this one again! Jirachi is my favorite pokémon so I really enjoyed this video. I remember getting Jirachi on one of my first playthroughs of Sapphire when I was 6 via the Colosseum Bonus Disk!

Hey Scott! You talk about your overlay a lot and I’m super proud of all the effort you’ve put in. Personally I think everyone should use but be able to add their own flair. I think what you’ve done with the over is just masterful it’s awesome!
Congrats on 40K! I'm glad you dropped that idea of a cumulative luck score you had ages ago. It was never actually going to work and multiple playthroughs are much better.
I feel like the "Double Dance" strategy would have been much more consistent in the Steven fight. ("Double Dance" meaning using 2 different setup moves, taking its name from moves like Dragon Dance and Swords Dance, but can also refer to other setup moves.) In this case, it would be Calm Mind and Cosmic Power. You seemed to be able to do nearly unlimited set up against the Skarmory. When you used Calm Mind, you had enough power to KO his team quickly, but not enough bulk to survive a hit. With Cosmic Power, you had the bulk, but lacked the power, resulting in stall strategies. If you'd had both set up moves, Rest, and either Psychic or Thunderbolt, you might have had a much easier sweep. Also, congrats on 40k! Here's to many more.~

Since you like classic music and pokemon, I think you'd enjoy a video called "Is it pokemon or Mozart?" Maybe that helps you think about your pokemon music idea. I'd love evolving playthroughs in yellow after you finish your challenge dex. I also think Smeargle only is a great series for any game with enough differences. I'm also very interested in whatever new ideas you have. You mentioned rom hacks, even if they're not coming any time soon, but there's a couple I think you'd like (even if you only plays it on your own time) such as Fool's Gold, pokemon brown or the early generation of the kaizo games. Maybe even stuff like this gym of mine or pokemon roguelike. Another interesting idea would be a video on changes you'd make to yellow if you ever made a romhack to make challenges more interesting. Anyway, great work as always Scott! Congrats on the 40k and hope you can grow ever higher!

Since you've managed to port into gen 1, I would be really interested to see what legendary would complete the game fastest. I think it'd be interesting to see how they do without the abilities of later gens. My bet is on deoxys speed personally.

I'm not a Pokemon expert as you are, but I think that when you battled Steven for the first time, when Jirachi was lv.59, you should have used Thunderbolt instead of Psychic against Aggron, you would have OHKOed it, since TB was not resisted as Psychic was, making you finish much earlier with much less resets. Just my opinion, though!!! GJ Scott 😎

Congratulations on 40k and another great video Scott! I have a suggestion and idk if this challenge has a name yet. What about each pokemon having a moveset inspired by it's dex entries? Meaning that, and I'll use Koffing for this example, would only be allowed to use moves related to smoke or poisonous fumes, as well as exploding of course, but wouldn't be allowed to use any of the various sludge moves, toxic, even tackle, etc.
Really enjoying these more casual streams. I'm currently watching/listening to the video while I'm playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I have to say I don't blame you on Gen 4. I rarely, if ever, come back to that generation. It's not a *bad* generation, but it just didn't have that same spark that the previous games did. Honestly, I think it was the last generation where I actually beat a Pokémon game (aside from Heart Gold and Soul Silver). I never beat Gens 5-7 and was right at the final boss in Gen 8 before I quit. To be fair to that game, though, the Re:Mind DLC for Kingdom Hearts III released the following day and that, quite frankly, took priority. XD Anyways, congrats! Here's to another year of quality content from a team of really great guys!

Yessss! Tool are amazing I saw them live in 2006 on the 10,000 days tour Rosetta stoned live is certainly an experience. Played most of the album straight through it felt like 10 minutes even though it was hours ❤️

I love this content and I love your perspective and take on things. I think your underlying brilliance is the best part of the content and is has really flourished with your dynamic overlays. In your older videos, you can tell that it is there, you just didnt quite have the tools to put it all together.

On the run... I hoped Jirachi would do better. My first thought for Steven was Leftovers + Sub Calm Mind.
Unfortunately both Substitute and Lefties take detours (beating last rival to gain access to the tutor atop dept store + exploring SS Tidal after becoming champion), so I am not sure whether that is optimal.

As for Jirachi's moveset near the end of the run, I think it could be improved further with Substitute. The substitute move tutor is on the roof of the Lilycove department store. The AI doesn't really know how to deal with you having a substitute, and they tend to spam status moves, which does feel a little cheap but it would help a lot with Sidney and Phoebe. You could run Substitute/Calm Mind/Wish/Hidden Power Fire for Sidney and set up on Mightyena behind the Substitute to avoid Sand Attack, switch the last moveslot to Shadow Ball for Phoebe, then to Psychic for the last 3 fights. The AI for the Elite 4 in Emerald is programmed to always use a status move the first turn. Against Steven, I think you could use HP Fire again as it's super effective against Skarmory and Metagross, and neutral against the rest. You could easily set up Substitute and Calm Minds against Skarmory, though I have to say your solution to this fight was also super creative!

just came back to watch this one again! Jirachi is my favorite pokémon so I really enjoyed this video. I remember getting Jirachi on one of my first playthroughs of Sapphire when I was 6 via the Colosseum Bonus Disk!

Hey Scott! You talk about your overlay a lot and I’m super proud of all the effort you’ve put in. Personally I think everyone should use but be able to add their own flair. I think what you’ve done with the over is just masterful it’s awesome!
Congrats on 40K! I'm glad you dropped that idea of a cumulative luck score you had ages ago. It was never actually going to work and multiple playthroughs are much better.

I feel like the "Double Dance" strategy would have been much more consistent in the Steven fight. ("Double Dance" meaning using 2 different setup moves, taking its name from moves like Dragon Dance and Swords Dance, but can also refer to other setup moves.) In this case, it would be Calm Mind and Cosmic Power.
You seemed to be able to do nearly unlimited set up against the Skarmory. When you used Calm Mind, you had enough power to KO his team quickly, but not enough bulk to survive a hit. With Cosmic Power, you had the bulk, but lacked the power, resulting in stall strategies. If you'd had both set up moves, Rest, and either Psychic or Thunderbolt, you might have had a much easier sweep.

Since you like classic music and pokemon, I think you'd enjoy a video called "Is it pokemon or Mozart?" Maybe that helps you think about your pokemon music idea.
I'd love evolving playthroughs in yellow after you finish your challenge dex. I also think Smeargle only is a great series for any game with enough differences. I'm also very interested in whatever new ideas you have.
You mentioned rom hacks, even if they're not coming any time soon, but there's a couple I think you'd like (even if you only plays it on your own time) such as Fool's Gold, pokemon brown or the early generation of the kaizo games. Maybe even stuff like this gym of mine or pokemon roguelike.
Another interesting idea would be a video on changes you'd make to yellow if you ever made a romhack to make challenges more interesting.
Anyway, great work as always Scott! Congrats on the 40k and hope you can grow ever higher!

Scott, I just wanna put my feelings down the best I can. Long story short, my health has turned for the worst of the last couple years, and I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be around. Since you've managed to port into gen 1, I would be really interested to see what legendary would complete the game fastest. I think it'd be interesting to see how they do without the abilities of later gens. My bet is on deoxys speed personally.

I'm not a Pokemon expert as you are, but I think that when you battled Steven for the first time, when Jirachi was lv.59, you should have used Thunderbolt instead of Psychic against Aggron, you would have OHKOed it, since TB was not resisted as Psychic was, making you finish much earlier with much less resets. Just my opinion, though!!! GJ Scott 😎

I have a suggestion and idk if this challenge has a name yet.
What about each pokemon having a moveset inspired by it's dex entries? Meaning that, and I'll use Koffing for this example, would only be allowed to use moves related to smoke or poisonous fumes, as well as exploding of course, but wouldn't be allowed to use any of the various sludge moves, toxic, even tackle, etc.
Really enjoying these more casual streams. I'm currently watching/listening to the video while I'm playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I have to say I don't blame you on Gen 4. I rarely, if ever, come back to that generation. It's not a *bad* generation, but it just didn't have that same spark that the previous games did. Honestly, I think it was the last generation where I actually beat a Pokémon game (aside from Heart Gold and Soul Silver). I never beat Gens 5-7 and was right at the final boss in Gen 8 before I quit. To be fair to that game, though, the Re:Mind DLC for Kingdom Hearts III released the following day and that, quite frankly, took priority. XD
Anyways, congrats! Here's to another year of quality content from a team of really great guys!
