As the only teenager in my area that loves rock n roll, it's sad to see that the only people who share my passion are mostly older adults who believe rock is dead for good. It's so sad to see what's become of the music scene in general. If I wear a band shirt in public, I get laughed at for it and people make you "name three of their songs" to prove you're a real fan. I get laughed at daily for listening to "old people music" or "a bunch of dead guys." On one hand, we have the people who think they're better than everyone else because they only listen to mainstream music, and on the other hand, we have the people who think they're better than everyone else because they don't listen to mainstream music. It's so hard to find people with not only your same musical taste but musical attitude. Personally, it's really funny when someone tells me I can't possibly listen to rock music because I'm only 15. It really sucks that to be a musician you have to be the pretty blue-eyed blondie who can hit all the high notes. No one lets music be music anymore. Rock n roll s my one true passion, but society doesn't allow rock musicians to have a chance anymore.
You are right about all that and it’s why I think this society not just in music but also film, tv and entertainment media in general has been degenerating for decades! As the years go by it seems as though originality, true uniqueness is lost or ridiculed and conforming to act, look, talk and use social media in the same mannerisms and aesthetics is praised. You can easily say f off to those people and have many reason to justify why you don’t associate with them!
Rock isnt dead. Whats wrong with Rock is that it isn't mainstream enough like it was back in the 70s-90s. People blame the younger generation for only liking rap music, but thats not the case because many teens fell in love with Queen and Motlëy Crüe when they had their movies out and their songs became trending again (so much so that it made crüe go on tour again). I believe that there needs to be a band like Van Halen or Led Zeppelin (not music wise) that redefines the genre again, and give it something original and new for this generation. Someone can argue that Greta Van Fleet is a hot band for this generation, but it sounds too much like Led Zeppelin, and they will always be condemned like a Led Zeppelin "copy". If some dudes can make something new and likable, rock will come back stronger than ever.
Covid Vaccines are more popular than rock. Rock is dead and Axl is full of soy. The reunion never should have happened because he's using the band to destroy its own legacy.
@@TheKitchenerLeslie Man are you serious? Vaccines are more popular because its a VACCINE to help fight off a deadly pandemic that is currently happening.

I bought the Neurotic Outsiders cd, still have it. GREAT album. Wish they'd do another one. The tracks on the EP that followed are great and need to be re-released.

Duff McKagan is a fucking legend! One of my favourite musicians ever. His autobiography is one of the most insane books I've ever read but left me with a whole new respect for this dude. Had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with him once and he's just as genuine in real life as he comes across in interviews. Hope to hear new G'N'R music this year Duff man! R'n'F'n'R :-)
My theory is that a) It's "too hard" and "takes too long" to be truly great at an instrument (everyone's excuse). Nowadays you can just fake it with technology. b) Back in the day, you HAD to be good live, so people would tell other people to go see you at the club. Today, since everyone makes music, and the internet exists, there is too much shit to choose from and it's far too diluted. There is probably another GNR caliber band out there, but how the hell do you find them? Most young people avoid seeing random bands play original music at the bar these days, and quite frankly I don't blame them as most of them suck. c) Influences - as time goes on, new bands influence new bands, and older influences start to fade unless kept alive!
Now you're getting into the philosophy of the life of rock n roll,I've thought this before. I'm curious as to what,or if you've come across anything nowadays that is in the same vein of gnr,or rolling stones or something. Because I have come across quite a few modern hair bands, but it's just so gay, unlike the ones from the 80's wich there were a few then that peoplethought were gay,but these guys now take it to a whole new level. And you got those kids that sound like zepplin, but that's just it we all know who they're ripping off. And so called what's consided rock now has taken so much influence from the whiny grudge crap. It makes me just fucking sad hearing that shit, like the seether type crap you best believe there's a new version of those type of bands every day. You can look up modern rock playlist and it'll just be nothing but those guys,I once thought Attila would bring it back a little at the very beginning, but of course they went more Down their grindcore rap way,to appease the fans.
@@ryandlion6961 Most modern music lacks the blues influence, and that is the major issue. The badass rock and roll sound comes form the blues. These two are so funny. As cool as he is and with his commercial success far exceeding Jones', I'll bet he still sits there a bit in disbelief, thinking this is the guitar player from the fucking Sex Pistols! Forever the fan. Much love to Duff and Steve.
I’m 16 and a HUGE gnr fan and it does suck to see how musical value has become little to none in today’s music and I’m hoping classic rock has a comeback in the future...
Aidan Rix don’t worry. I am 40 years old and I can confirm that there was always a whole load of rubbish music in every decade. It’s just that the good stuff continues on in people’s memories, whereas the rubbish stuff is forgotten. There’s great music happening now just as there was “back in the day”, it just takes the passage of time for great new music to become classic music.
Rock and roll is NOT dead. Bands are still putting up posters, playing for a pizza and some beers. The difference is that rock and roll just doesn`t have the monopoly anymore. But there are great rock bands out there. You just have to search deeper to find them. And that`s what rock and punk was all about, wasn`t it?

Rock is not dead for sure. Music stations play their own genre & kids eventually develop their own taste as they grow up. UK, Germany, Eastern & Northern Europe still has a great live scene. Believe Australia & Japan likewise. It does seem sadly the U.S perhaps has seen a drop off in recent years but it will come back. I worked with Chris Spedding. He said Jones was the shit. Solid guitar player. Chris Thompson made him do 23 guitar tracks on each song on the Bollocks lp. He played all the rhythm and leads exactly the same every time. Thompson mixed them all into one sound. Spedding says Jones is a great guitar player, always has been.
Social media and lack of musical experimentation has killed rock n' roll. Live music culture was cool to be involved in at many levels, it was never meant to be a vapid culture of cool.
@@nox4298 music is now defined as "intellectual property" and as such is one of the most gaurded items that has no physical presence, has no metter and is truly just a collection of agitated layers of air. Rock isn't dead. It evolves. I'm not a fan of today's pop music at all but I liked the seventies disco and eighties new wave. The main constant was hard rock and metal. Still is. Still prefer it.
Rock IS definitely dead. When Metallica, guns n roses and the rest of their generation are finished, so is rock. The book will be closed and it will be the end. Every note and chord combination has been played in that style. Like jazz or classical it will remain as a part of our lives but nothing new can be created from it.

Duff is wearing a cap with the name Prince on it, he loved Prince!
It's not dead but it's no longer the force that it was. And it never will be again.
That’s impossible to say for complete certainty.
@@nox4298 I've said it so it's not impossible to say.
@@BLUEMONDAY99 Take a look at the charts and compare the number of guitar bands to 30, 40, 50 years ago. As I said already, it's not dead but it's no longer the force that it was.
John Stewart I agree rock doesn’t give us rebels anymore that era is long gone and dead now we have terrible greta van fleet.
@@BLUEMONDAY99 How many of those bands were truly original though, offering something new? How many had really, really great songs?
Neurotic Outsiders is an underrated and totally influential record! those riffs!

Great interview
I love Duff, and always love listening to him - but this is a shit title for the interview. Was hoping he'd mention a few bands he's into now. You barley discussed the status of rock these days. There are quite a few great rock bands, Dirty Honey, Rival Sons, Myles and the boys, the list is actualy quite long. Sorry to be negative, the title was just misleading.
Agreed. I would like to know the opinion of veteran rockers on this subject. Last ten years everything mainstream is pop, rap and country. Sad times.
That's because there is none..same with real metal.
@@hotlanta35 Yeah the worst for real metal. Only death metal and "progressive " type metal now.
@@hotlanta35 I'm not into "real metal" or "new metal" - but there are several new rock bands that have something new with old blues roots to offer. Dirty Honey, which GNR supports, South of Eden - very new with little on the the web to show but I can't wait to hear more, RIval Sons...I'm pretty old school so that's all I've found that I love!

viper room had the same band play recurring Mondays? Before it was Viper Room it was called The Central, and they also had a band play recurring Mondays. It was Chuck E. Weiss and the Goddamned Liars. Saw em at least once
Impressive program 🎵🔊 enjoying them 😊
Blackberry Smoke...
You just gotta find it!
fin quando esisteranno personaggi come Steve e Duff, il rock non morirà mai!
Rock is not dead; it just smells that way.
That's like saying Jazz is not dead.
Come on man you are in denial..I wish it wasn't but seriously...
@@peaceonearth351 Franz zappa.... "just smells funny"
I believe Duff also sings Seattle Head by the Neurotics.
Great show! Glad Jonesy is back at least for 1 Day a week.
Do you know whether Jonesy Jukebox is still on air? He's active on Instagram but there doesn't seem to be any radio updates.
@@huntsman1234 No, they took his show off the air.
Steve get Walter Lure on the box I’m sure you two have some great stories about the anarchy tour and Johnny thunders

Dear KLOS,
Rock will NEVER die

Rock is not dead for sure. Music stations play their own genre & kids eventually develop their own taste as they grow up. UK, Germany, Eastern & Northern Europe still has a great live scene. Believe Australia & Japan likewise. It does seem sadly the U.S perhaps has seen a drop off in recent years but it will come back. O2 London now the planet's busiest live music venue many rock acts so not all bad for sure.
Oh me gosh.Duff made Steve look like an Easter bunny!2 of the best!😄😃😀❤❤❤
It was sweat leaf where ozzy says all right now. Won't u listen.
he says it a lot, he loves to spam that hahaha from crazy train all the time too

Sweet leaf. I remember where I was when my little sister first told me to listen to it and put that vinyl on tt. Unbelievable.
out here in the great northwest we're still playing classic rock covers we do GnR we do Aerosmith we do tons of classic rock and the audiences eat it up. its not the most popular music Ill admit but we draw crowds and people love us. rock isn't dead its just not the mainstream genre its rap and had been since the death of MTv. rock n roll will lever forever!!!
@Mikie E yeah come to my house and say that walls of Marshall stacks
@Mikie E check out all the young kids doing classic rock like greta van sustren you're high bro rock lives

Ojala el publico de Guate se porte bien a la altura para que sigan llegando artistas de este calibre. Muchos rockeros se van tan lejos como Chile e ignoran a Guate por no tener un buen lugar ni alguien que los promueva. Que lo disfruten!
I’m in to rock I making my own album by myself And it’s classic rock
@20.00 Jonesy I think your thinking of the song N.I B. (not iron man) which has a killer bass intro and Ozzy yelling OH YEH inbetween
He says all right now in a few songs but I believe sweet leaf was the first time and most significant
Two cool dudes.......🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It was NIB 'alright now'
Edit it was sweet leaf duff was right lol

@@dannyanime3468 Good music never dies
I wish the Neurotic Outsiders would play some shows.
Social media and lack of musical experimentation has killed rock n' roll. Live music culture was cool to be involved in at many levels, it was never meant to be a vapid culture of cool.
Dam Brooks white people killed rock
@@dannyanime3468 well they certainly stole it, is how I'd describe it personally, but I see entirely what you mean.
Dam Brooks “stole” as if a musical genre and general influence is something that can be stolen.
@@nox4298 music is now defined as "intellectual property" and as such is one of the most gaurded items that has no physical presence, has no metter and is truly just a collection of agitated layers of air. Yet if I was to, without asking permission or paying for the privilege for doing so, put out a version of 'Paint it Black' writen originally by the Brian Jones of Rolling Stones fame both his family and the bands legal team would be well within their rights to sue me for theft of intellectual property; that such attitudes or behaviour wasn't a part of the country blues tradition doesn't stop it being were the Stones stole lots of their sound from, in fact Kieth Richards said as much in his book "Keith" but feel free to dispute this further.
Danny anime your opinion is not the truth in the slightest.

WoW! I miss Duff. He is absolutely the COOLEST GUY! I never knew about his "panic attacks"...but we did some serious drinking together at "Cathouse Club" in the late 80's...video of us together coming soon...
VJ SWORD “panic attacks” are very real
Here come the "rock music is not dead you just have to look for it" comments.
I hate those
I much prefer those to the standard "rock died 20/30/40 years ago" - typical response from boring old geezers who simply stopped listening to new music 20/30/40 years ago.
@@DaveBoofhead1972 I don't say that rock is dead, but it's clearly not where it should be. And a bigger problem is it's lacking of variety.
+hotlanta35 ha,ha,ha - I used to say that up until a few years ago - I just don't believe it any more...
Duff was right, it was Sweetleaf 🤘🏻🤘🏻
9 songs in 4 days in fucking impressive!
Rock isn't dead. It evolves. I'm not a fan of today's pop music at all but I liked the seventies disco and eighties new wave. The main constant was hard rock and metal. Still is. Still prefer it.
Jonesy looks great! Glad he’s still with us.. Lay off the Bangers and Mash💯☮️
I was there♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
No comments about Jonesy's outfits ??
Guatemala !!
Rock IS definitely dead. When Metallica, guns n roses and the rest of their generation are finished, so is rock. The book will be closed and it will be the end. Every note and chord combination has been played in that style. Like jazz or classical it will remain as a part of our lives but nothing new can be created from it.
I'm hoping you're not right.
Love that Neurotic album... Reunion Required.
they should put out another Neurotic Outsiders record...it is a record to listen from the beginning to the end… Come on Stevieee… all right now!!
