June intake 85, we wore blues rather than camo. I had a rougher time than some as a Soutie but it turned a bunch of boys into a tight knit platoon of men. Our platoon Sergeant's favourite phrase was 'verstaan jy my, Engelsman!' No regrets but a bloody shame how the country went south.
If the Whites were equitable in their rule, if they treated and educated the under classes that they themselves created, this country right now would not be in this shameful state we now find ourselves in.

Thank you for sharing.This was then 6 yrs after my passing out parade, 14th July 1978.Platoon 21, Bravo company. I have very fond memories of the college.It was tough back then, but we survived. We didn't wear camo's back then but a brown coverall and brown boots with the police cap. We only got Camo's when we went to Maleoskop for COIN training. Afew months after that I returned to Maleoskop for coin instructor training.The showers were still cold...lol We were a real wild bunch back then.... We were very careful not to scuff our "boned " boots, and it didn't take long to bring them up to standard in the evenings. Back then there was a lot of pride in serving in the force and people had respect for you. Sad to see how that has disappeared through the years. By the time this movie was made I was already in the S A Navy, having resigned in late '81.Born and bred into a naval family I had to bow out of the police.I absolutely loved the police and recon I would have gone far if I stayed.I always ponder that decision and the road I might have traveled in the force.Study was always easy for me and exams were a breeze really. I have a very good memory, even today, and if I stayed, I would be retired now.Lost a lot of comrades in the force through the years, and kept in contact with a few. May the force be with you.
The road we travel today, take good note of it, do it with honour and loyalty and integrity. Give of your best and serve all peoples of our country in humility. It is not a weakness but a great strenght. Be proud of the uniform and keep the flag flying high. Be just in all things and lenient, for without there is no justice. Spend time with your family and love them. They need you. Protect your children as they are our future. Be kind to animals as they cannot speak. Honour your parents as without we would not be. Take good note of today...remember it well!!! You Will Not pass this way again.

I was the drummajor of the police band back then ,(16:48 and again at 20:28) and would you believe this is the only video I've seen during my 25 years in the College. I was in the South African Police College, Troop 4 ( a soutie troop) in 1969. Colonel Snyman was Commandant and W/O Leesh was the Adjudant. In those days there were no women in the SAP. Ah to be young again. One of the best years of my life!

Indians to Wentworth in Durban and Coloured ( mixed race ) Bishop Lavis in Cape Town . Apartheid meant we trained separately but we worked ( on police duty ) and died together . Weird huh ?

Look at the photos of Sharpville. Even you you should be able to see the black policemen in that 1970's photos. I was in the army with 101 Batalion. One white person for every 100 Ovambos. BTW, Owambos are black. They were our comrades and buddies. We depended on one another.
You should see the photos of school kids that were ripped to pieces by your terrorists’ land mines on their way to school. Or perhaps go and look at pictures of farm murder victims that your government and president even deny the existence of. Look at the photos of Sharpville. Even you you should be able to see the black policemen in that 1970's photos. I was in the army with 101 Batalion. One white person for every 100 Ovambos. BTW, Owambos are black. They were our comrades and buddies. We depended on one another.
