My personal favorite is actually also the lightest machine gun of all time. It's a shame the NFA regulates them because I hear they're super fun to shoot. I'm talking, of course, about the tried-and-true shoelace tied into a knot. The only machinegun to clock in at under a single ounce. Truly a marvel of engineering.
🔫 Talk them guns, good stuff brother!!! I like the 240 more than the SAW/ Mk48, but my two favorite Belt Fed platforms are the MG3 and the PKM alongside the 240.
I was reading a book of a German machine gunner on the Eastern Front and He mentioned to have your gun barrel no more than the width of a hand above the dirt so you don't get smoked. He also said to have two pits, one on either side of the gun. These are for individual sleeping locations but also if a grenade gets chucked in you kick it to one side or there other. Steel case for long range and brass for up close, Steel had more malfunctions.

Sadly, there aren't enough 240s out there, though there are probably quite a few 1919s out there.😜 The PPSH 41 and PPS 43 are both fantastic smgs, the 41 with a well running drum can be quite the cqb weapon, and 43 kits are VERY cheap right now. I will ALWAYS love the Ma Duce, as long as I don't have to pay for the ammo, though I do have a special place in my heart for a FN FAL with a 30 rd mag and a Halbeck device!
@@jaybot7813, the PPSH-41 is chambered in 7.62x25 Tokarev, and Russia made some VERY hot, (++P++), ammo for it, much of it armor piercing, the drums for them have a 71 round capacity and it has a incredibly high rate of fire. Clears rooms VERY quickly. 😁

I'm just an old school M81 Woodland wearin, 240B loving, C130 jumpin, 11 bang bang. I was an AG for an AT team in Batt. Our weapon system was the Goose. A bad bitch with a helluva backblast. And yes, the senior man on each gun team was the gunner. 1/75 RLTW!!
The only real divergence I’ve seen, is our MG teams immediately set the gun. It was part of the bounding drill for us. AG sets tripod, rolls away from the tripod, fires or pulls security. Gunner bounds forward until he lands with the 240 beside the tripod on the AG side, in a position that is perpindicular to the pintle hole in the tripod, with the feed side pointed at the dirt. This helps kick the starter belt off the top of the MG. He then twists the gun 90 degrees locking the gun into the tripod, with the AG owning the Pintle after he ensures the gun is locked. So I don’t personally see the point of the fire command system for setting in the tripod. We were always taught to get the tripod down if you can. I know you’re full by the book right now though. And I will add the caveat that we were a unit that came from not having weapon squads to having weapon squads and our gun teams were more autonomous still and running off the system that the PL or PSG was gonna control us so we had better be in the best position. I LOVE the AG owning the PEQ. We never thought to do that. Just the benefits from having the ROE don’t fire until I hit that laser.
