To understand binary more you can think of it like this. In decimal, you take all the numbers you have and you go: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and then there's no sign for ten so you just add 1 and go from the start 10 11 12 13 14 ... 19 and there, no more numbers so you make the number on the left bigger by 1 and start from zero. 20. In binary, it's the same, you go 0, 1 and there's no sign for two so you add 1 to the left and go from the start 10 you go 11 and there are no more numbers left so you add 1 to the left, there are also no other numbers so you add 1 and you have 100 and then you go 101 110 111, 1001 and so on

@Agrafka Agrafka Books certainly have their place. However, if books were all that was needed to learn, then we could close down all of the elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges/universities, vocational schools, technical schools, etc. all around the world and just provide the learners with books. We would save a considerable amount of money by not having to pay for expensive buildings, utilities for these buildings, and teachers/professors. However, many people benefit from having an expert explain a topic.
@Agrafka Agrafka In many countries, going to school past high school costs money. Books, unless checked out from the library, are not free. Watching a free video on TH-cam makes knowledge accessible to all people with an Internet connection.
@Agrafka Agrafka Most people already pay for access to the Internet. With this Internet access, they can watch as many TH-cam videos as they want without having to pay extra. However, each book costs extra. There is a concept in education today known as the flipped classroom. This is where the teacher or professor records their lectures, the students watch these lectures at home, and then work on practice problems or labs while in class. That is, the students learn the information from watching a video. I am not arguing that learning from books is bad. However, learning from books has its advantages and disadvantages, and learning from videos also has its advantages and disadvantages.
You can also covert decimal to binary by dividing by 2. Write down your number, such as 23 and divide by 2. That gives you 11 remainder 1. The remainders are important. Write the remainder down, then repeat. 11 divided by 2 is 5 remainder 1. 5 divided by 2 is 2 remainder 1. 2 divided by 2 is 1 remainder 0. And finally 1 divided by 2 is 0 remainder 1. Now you’ve reached 0, write down all the remainders in reverse order and you get 10111, which is binary for 23.
My mid-life crisis has warranted a career change - studying the basics- and I wanted to thank-you for sharing your knowledge. The delight you exhibit for communicating knowledge is infectious; I have found myself having several "eureka" moments thanks to your guidance. I found myself beaming - once again! - at my cleverness after "figuring it out" (thanks to Nosferatu) - so much so it evoked unusual behavior for me (leaving a comment). "See Dad! See! This brain is capable of more than just 'producing smoke'" I burn'n clean now! Thanks Chuck, you are an educator
omg I paid thousands of dollars for a university course and had 6 weeks to finish NETW and I did not learn it..until I saw this! Awesome!!! Thank you Chuck!!
I have not been able to figure out how to convert binary to decimal and vise versa FOREVER! Barely passed one of my networking classes because of it. I've just recently discovered you and I actually understand all the math we just did in this video!! Love the way you explain this stuff!
Man, this has been a weird day, lol. I'm currently studying for my Network+ Certification, My tutor is brilliant, but somehow the way he explains Subnetting, whilst it does make sense to me, I still found that I had some trouble with it. Then, having studied for about an hour and a half, I decided to take a break, flipped onto TH-cam and this video showed up. Something about the way you explain the process of translating between Decimal to Binary and back again, somehow, made it all click into place. Thank you Chuck for all of your videos, You're awesome and I really hope to meet you one day during the course of my career and have a coffee :D
Been working in IT for years, always hated networking found it confusing, have make exams in a few months.. thanks for making it fun to learn and understandable
It’s a shame I’ve been looking at my class work forever and not understanding subnetting, and by the first explanation you gave I understood it. And now I’m excited about it and like it. You are very talented at what you do are a skillful teacher.
This way of promotions are far much better than advertisements after now and then in between a good quality learning and understanding. Kuddos to the quality of content
When I was taught subnetting was in an old NT4 admin MCP networking class. Instructure told us "You'll get this on Wednesday" and proceeded to explain subnet masking. Explained it again on Tuesday, and lo and behold, on wednesday, a LOT of lights went on. :)
I have not done subnetting in years... I came 1st in my state for computer internetworking back in 2018 and subnetting was involved and I was actually very good at it and could do it in my head quite easily. Now I am looking at that, trying to remember things about it. I am gonna watch your video, the title seduced my way in here. You should cover cable creation, that is also something I haven't done in years tbh. I miss creating straight-through, cross-over, and console cables for the labs we had to do... Those were the good ole days... now I am trying to afford food for the week while not running out of gas for work.
Here’s me adding all the bit increments together to prove to myself why 255 is the limit for IP address numbers. Great vid for me as a complete beginner!
As a Computer Engineering student (if you don't know, think Electrical Engineering and Computer Science squashed together), binary and logic gates are some of the first things we learn, so even though I know everything in this video, I still watched it for the absolutely magnificent way you explained it. I was kinda getting hyped up by the end that you'd go into signed and unsigned numbers but alas... 😂 Not sure why binary is helpful at this point, but should be fun to find out. IP addresses and the internet in general is where my education is lacking, so thanks so much for these very informative (and very humorous) videos!!!!
A fantastic breakdown which is (relatively) easy-to-understand, explained as only the hyper caffeinated can do. Also appreciate both the warning and full send for the Manscaped ad.
Between your Oprah router and matrix glasses analogies, you just get a person smiling and remembering the material. Cheers Chuck 🍻 or should I call ya Chuckles
I cannot possibly be the only person who - at the 9:38 mark - yelled out, "NO FUCKING WAY!!!" My head just exploded in a very, very good way, NetworkChuck. Thanks for that 🙂.
I learned Dec to Bin in another way, that I find a bit easier. From Decimal to Binary: 1. Take the number you want to convert 2. Devide it by 2. 3. If there is a remainder, write down a 1 if not, a 0 4. Do that till you have devided 1. Remember to write from right to left. 5. Your octet needs 8 digits. If you are below 8 digets, put 0s in left of what you just calculated Example: Octet: 165 165/2 = 82 r 1 82/2 = 41 r 0 41/2 = 20 r 1 20/2 = 10 r 0 10/2 = 5 r 0 5/2 = 2 r 1 2/2 = 1 r 0 1/2 = 0 r 1 Binary Octet: 10100101
Bro, I love your vids, It seems at one point in life you were an English teacher somewhere in the world. Love your vids, you are a person who in frank who says it in a way that makes my son and me as well make it fun to do together. Thank you!!
Okay Chuck, this is it, not sure if it is you insisting on me sipping coffee or you are an incredible teacher, because in my 12 years in IT I have like sailed through without actually learning this properly, and no other tutorial I have tried has had my attention that well. Long story short, I have ADHD, so boring monotone voiced teachers that sound like they lost their will to live 15 years ago...that type of learning which is like 90% of the learning videos out there...well that did not float well with me...until your videos...man...dude you are a ADHD friendly teacher, that is a compliment in itself, not many can do that...also, thanks for reminding me to drink coffee, i sometimes get cold coffee because I forget. Keep it up Chuck, ridiculously good content on your channel, you are awesome.
Thanks Chuck. My college professor is very bad so thought I would search on youtube on how to subnet mask from someone that can actually teach. I found your TH-cam on how to decode binary. VERY helpful. Appreciate it!
It is IPv4 address. We should really go for IPv6 now. But yes, subnetting is easier to learn then in IPv4. And if you have a Linux machine, install 'ipcalc' or 'sipcalc' to check your subnetting. And yes, they are great to learn/check subnetting.
I’m only just starting to learn Cyber security so networking is fundamental, you break this up so easily, now binary is definitely less scary! Thanks for sharing man!
I love this guy man he is by far the BEST IT youtube channel ever so hyped about all of it good editing spends time lets us his viewers have fun with him you NetworkChuck are a goat dawg frfr
I really got to say I love how you teach I’ve been watching your videos the past week to refresh my memory on some things all I got to say is please keep up the good work you will definitely get a lot more people interested
Wow, your enterpretations and analogies are so damn effective. The explanations as a whole are so easy to understand, they're simple but not so dumbed down that they miss the point. Thankyou heaps 🖤
Your channel has truly changed my life. i've been studying and researching about crypto for a while now and i got stuck at some point on the learning curve. now i can say I'm truly improving my understanding of this whole new world and making great profit weekly, all thanks to you
It's strange how people talk about all the profits, they have been making through trading of crypto, while am here making huge losses. Please can someone put me through on the right path or at least advise me on what to follow.
I've been making passive income monthly from crypto for over a year tho' I prefer trading with the help of a professional broker because it saves me time and reduces the risk of losing funds in trading as we all know how volatile the market is
@James Smith You don't have to get scared if you plan on a long term holding but if you're hoping to make passive income with coins you've got in your wallet, a professional and genuine broker is advised to manage your account
@James Smith You can connect Mrs Peggy S. Wilson, I've been investing and trading my cryptocurrencies with her signals and has been nothing short of impressive return of investment
There are many snake oil saleswoman out there claiming to be professional which every investor especially the newbies should weary of! Mrs Peggy S. Wilson, is a genuine and consistent broker that can guide you to becoming one of the whales in crypto
Where it all really comes together and increases your understanding by lightyear's is when you do your IP and netmask in 1s and 0s. When I learned that 20 years ago I never had any confusion about IP again.
You are simply brilliant. I have been following you for 10 years and guess what Chuck? I still watch your tutorials. On top of that we both love Networking and Coffee :D

I found that straight forward to understand i instantly wondered how you would convert letters or words to binary be great to see a video on that. thanks again for all the knowledge.
next stage subnetting pls :) i did allready know this stuff. But hell yeah its fun watching you and i dont doubt you refreshed my knowledge (thats important). I really enjoy your creations.
It's your fault that I'll be screaming either literally or mentally, "Turn it on, Nosferatu!" every single time there's a 1 in my octet. I feel blessed. Thank you for this. 🧛♂
thanks for the subnet decoder ring... really appreciate the simplicity of that. had me laughing my @$$ off with you manscape infomercial... well done lol
Thank you very much man, I learned it in just some minutes, they way you combine humour with teaching really helps a lot when it comes to keeping me interested:)))
Words cannot express my gratitude for your work Chuck...i was stuck in my college study because my teachers SUCKS ASS. You sir managed to do in fucking 15 minutes what my teachers tried and failed myserably to do in 2 weeks. Cheers to you mate.

Chuck, you’re the only one who has been able to explain this to me in a way that makes actual sense. Thank you!!
I have not been able to figure out how to convert binary to decimal and vise versa FOREVER! Barely passed one of my networking classes because of it. I've just recently discovered you and I actually understand all the math we just did in this video!! Love the way you explain this stuff!
there are 10 types of people in this world: people who understand binary and people who don't
Been a long time since I first covered binary to decimal conversion.
I am in love with your teaching style and your Manscaped ads..🤣🤣🤣🤣
Only Network Chuck can make subnetting without tricks exciting. Thanks for your hard work and dedication!!!
Dude you break it down much simpler than my professor did, thank you so much, please make MANY more.
Been working in IT for years, always hated networking found it confusing, have make exams in a few months.. thanks for making it fun to learn and understandable
As a math major, I loved this lesson! Thanks for presenting a difficult topic in an approachable manner.
He did a video on cable making a view videos before this one
Glad you understand!
Between your Oprah router and matrix glasses analogies, you just get a person smiling and remembering the material. Cheers Chuck 🍻 or should I call ya Chuckles
I cannot possibly be the only person who - at the 9:38 mark - yelled out, "NO FUCKING WAY!!!"
My head just exploded in a very, very good way, NetworkChuck. Thanks for that 🙂.
I don't think I've ever been this freaking excited to learn about converting to and from binary. This is an amazing video! Thank you!
This man taught me binary perfectly in less than 15 minutes when my teacher took 5 lessons to poorly explain it
I learned Dec to Bin in another way, that I find a bit easier.
From Decimal to Binary:
1. Take the number you want to convert
2. Devide it by 2.
3. If there is a remainder, write down a 1 if not, a 0
4. Do that till you have devided 1. Remember to write from right to left.
5. Your octet needs 8 digits. If you are below 8 digets, put 0s in left of what you just calculated
Example:
Octet: 165
165/2 = 82 r 1
82/2 = 41 r 0
41/2 = 20 r 1
20/2 = 10 r 0
10/2 = 5 r 0
5/2 = 2 r 1
2/2 = 1 r 0
1/2 = 0 r 1
Binary Octet: 10100101
Thank you! High quality video again.
Your tutorials are very useful! Keep up the good work!
Appreciate it!
paul browning has a really helpful method with subnetting. Made subnetting for exams really easy.
It is IPv4 address. We should really go for IPv6 now. But yes, subnetting is easier to learn then in IPv4.
And if you have a Linux machine, install 'ipcalc' or 'sipcalc' to check your subnetting. And yes, they are great to learn/check subnetting.
@@user-bo6zb1nb7e ???
And you should not steal NetworkChuck avatar.
the convention technique is honestly easy, I have been wasting my time with the calculator a lot. Thanks Chuck
He knows how to motive his audience, the intro was awesome
Great Refresher. You are killing me with the Manscaped stuff. Great job. Thank you.
Do you realize how much I was struggling with subnetting, thank you 🙏
I’m only just starting to learn Cyber security so networking is fundamental, you break this up so easily, now binary is definitely less scary! Thanks for sharing man!
This video has saved my life and makes learning computers and networks fun. Please don't stop, we all greatly appreciate your hard work. Subscribed.
I was so confused on subnet and IP addresses and how to convert and calculate them. This is pure gold❤
I love this guy man he is by far the BEST IT youtube channel ever so hyped about all of it good editing spends time lets us his viewers have fun with him you NetworkChuck are a goat dawg frfr
Wow! This is amazing. I had a lecture, and I couldn't get my head around the binary conversions. Now it makes so much sense!
I’ve never been so impressed! Just brilliant!
Thumbs up for the effort made to make the vampire flipping the switch on and off!! LOL
bruh i needed someone to explain this to me like i was 5 and this was it .. good job sir
I really got to say I love how you teach I’ve been watching your videos the past week to refresh my memory on some things all I got to say is please keep up the good work you will definitely get a lot more people interested
You explained to me how binary conversion works, two teachers and an AI failed to do so... thanks Chuck i'd still be a numbnut without you!
Wow, your enterpretations and analogies are so damn effective. The explanations as a whole are so easy to understand, they're simple but not so dumbed down that they miss the point. Thankyou heaps 🖤
please finish this series you are saving my subnetting career.
Look at paul browning's video. He was the biggest help for me.
I just picked up my ccna book and been with CBT nuggets for a week now, Thank you for being an inspiration
Wilson, is a genuine and consistent broker that can guide you to becoming one of the whales in crypto
actually why each 0 to 255 is called octate because the code of 8bit answered at 0:19
Where it all really comes together and increases your understanding by lightyear's is when you do your IP and netmask in 1s and 0s. When I learned that 20 years ago I never had any confusion about IP again.
I would have wished that my teacher had your energy , passion when I was at college. Your videos are so inspiring.. 👍
I almost freaked out when I saw the thumbnail. Was like did chuck go bald !!! 😅
saved my day as i have a homework about ipv4...tanks for the tip
hey chuck i really hate Spammers
You are simply brilliant. I have been following you for 10 years and guess what Chuck? I still watch your tutorials. On top of that we both love Networking and Coffee :D
Thank you very much. I have watched many of your videos. Very very helpful in setting up other programs. I could not have done without your help.
Network chuck is the Steve from blues clues but for IT. He makes learning so much fun.
“Thanks for doing your part, you sure are smart, you know with me and you, and my dog…Bernard. We can hack anything that you wanna attack.” Except don’t actually attack
hey chuck im not a student or in i.t in anyway it is something that i enjoy doing i love to find out how things work and your videos help selfteach.
Are you kidding me. I’ve never seen it done this way and it makes so much sense
Man brings me back from last month's chapter 2 about Bases in maths class
It's your fault that I'll be screaming either literally or mentally, "Turn it on, Nosferatu!" every single time there's a 1 in my octet. I feel blessed. Thank you for this. 🧛♂
If you spend more on coffee than IT security. You're going to be hacked. Love your TH-cam videos. You keep it so interesting. Love it
The scary part is when decimals said they are non-binary. We will have a huge problem. Lol
😂😂😂😂😂
BRO U REALLY HELPED ALOT GODDAMN I FEEL SO HAPPY NOW
U MADE IT LOOK AND SOUND WAY EASIER THAN WHAT MY TEACHERS EXPLAINED.
thanks for the subnet decoder ring... really appreciate the simplicity of that. had me laughing my @$$ off with you manscape infomercial... well done lol
Thanks for unlocking a skill that I forgot I had! Great explanations, love the channel.
Absolutely amazing teaching ❤
This is surprisingly easy fun. You're awesome dude.
It's my first time seeing that Decimal to Binary conversion method. I love this method.
