Stingray and Thunderbirds were in the same universe, as Gordon Tracy (Thunderbird 4) was formerly a member of WASP, the World Aquanaut Security Patrol from Stingray.
Im not sure how official its supposed to be, but all the puppet shows (and maybe the live action shows like UFO and Space 1999) are supposed to be in the same universe. Captain Black had apparently been in charge of a Fireball XL craft (but not Fireball XL 5) and was using a space craft to get to Mars which was first seen in Thunderbirds.
Ben, I also had that gun toy with the reverb 'megaphone'; the geeking out over a 60s British puppet show at least made me feel recognised! Greatly enjoyed this episode, if mainly for the Gerry Anderson chat rather than the game! Can't wait for the speedrun of this!

As an American born in the 70s I knew Thunderbirds but never heard of this show until now. The big imports from my childhood that I remember were Dangermouse and Dr Who.
I absolutely love Captain Scarlet and the other Supermarionation shows - made my own Tracy Island back in the day and all. Can't wait for the speed run!
That was a ton of knowledge thrown out there lads! With the Hot and Fresh Science Facts™, you really do learn as you play! Loved the video, loved the editing (especially with the sound of the upstairs toilet yet again), loved the bants, loved the absolute rubbish Blast® game! Great episode!
I can sympathise with Ben because when I was a kid I thought the theme tune was "Captain Scarlet, he's destructible!". Which I always thought was strange, because surely everyone is.
Attack Of The Alligators was great although the way it was made was pretty unpleasant. The crew used electric shocks to make the baby alligators to move when required. During the filming a government animal welfare official arrived to investigate the production after being tipped off about the cruel treatment of the animals. Unfortunately for the alligators this man was a huge Thunderbirds fan and encouraged the crew to increase the voltage as he felt the amount they were using was insufficient for the alligators to feel it. Perhaps inevitably one of the alligators died during production.
I’ve always read the show’s title as “Captain Scarlet and the Mysterions,” probably because I’ve conflated it with 1960s American garage rock band Question Mark and the Mysterians (and the 1950s Japanese sci-fi movie they took their name from).
God, this game is so damn depressing... No music, awful controls (you can tell just by looking at it), terrible graphics (seriously, this is like some ps1 game they had around unreleased), repetitive and boring gameplay... I felt like my life was being drained, and i wasnt even playing it. You better put Peter in suicide watch after this lmao
I always felt that the Mysterions would have been a much more viable threat if they didn't keep broadcasting their plans everytime they came up with something.
It doesn't matter what you feel, because even when the Mysterons broadcast their plans, Spectrum isn't always able to stop them, so they're still a viable threat regardless.
Peter: I like the use of the word "indestructible" implying that he is a puppet rather than, y'know, invincible. Except... no. It's just correct use of the term. Captain Scarlet wasn't immune to physical injury/fatality. "Indestructible" means that he can't be killed/permanently left unable to function because he'd simply heal/recover from any damage done to him (even if it were fatal) so they used the word correctly. If he was described as "invincible" like Peter's saying then it'd be impossible to injure him at all.
I also had that toy gun thing with the circle lights and unpowered voice changer bit at the back! Literally minutes of fun, every time it was infrequently played with, but I did love it. Ah memories.
I had no idea there was a Captain Scarlet video game......probably a good thing, based on what you guys had to deal with here! Thank you for the nostalgia blast, lads.
The series itself could easily be done as an Goldeneye style FPS where you’ve got objectives to complete as an agent with the occasional vehicle segments and Captain Scarlet himself can easily work as a video game character with the immortality part.
27:25 awesome barrel roll, hits a shot upside down. ends up facing the right way and on all four wheels. finished the kill. Incredibly done Peter! can of coke to you!👏
The comics actually had Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Stingray all in the same universe, with occasional stories making references to the organisations from the other shows. The one thing that *might* point to it in the shows is that the Zero-X spacecraft from the Thunderbirds are Go film has the same 'explorer' tracked vehicle as the vehicle that Captain Black is on when he discovers the Mysterons in the opening episode of Captain Scarlet. If they were set in the same universe, this would suggest that Captain Scarlet is set after Thunderbirds. Otherwise I don't *think* there are any other direct crossovers (probably partially prevented by the fact they developed their puppets from series to series, and so they were very different from each show, with Captain Scarlet being the most advanced and most lifelike in their proportions).
This game lost me at "game based on puppets, that doesn't let you control the puppets". And then to top it off, the ONLY game mechanic is broken af... ✌🏾🙄💯
another game concept to add to the list of games which will never be made: third person shooter captain scarlet game, where the character model is a puppet and moves like they do in the show, but with ps5 era graphics
All because they went to a rubbish game company when they could have gone to a good one. A Captain Scarlet FPS game that’s a mix between Goldeneye’s objective based missions and TF2’s Spychecking gameplay. A Thunderbirds game with actual depth and strategy to the rescue missions.
As an American, I can tell you that most of Gerry Anderson's shows were shown here. Captain Scarlet was my favorite of them, because it was probably the most serious. Also loved The Thunderbirds, The Terrahawks, Supercar & Fireball XL5. Never heard of Lavender Castle until watching this video though, so I'm looking to find an episode or two to give it a shot. Also, there was a CGI-animated Captain Scalet show named New Captain Scarlet. And there is currently a Thunderbirds CGI show called Thunderbirds Are Go.
Century 21 may had been a play on words on the possible time period of most the Andersons sci fi series (Captain Scarlett, Thunderbirds, Stingray, etc). Since they were supposed to be in the same universe. There were cases of characters cross overs. One of the Angels of Captain Scarlett were friend with Lady Penelope of the Thunderbirds.
2:20 No, that's not all of them. That's only a fraction of Gerry Anderson's shows. The themes you sang are only from the third, fourth, and fifth series to carry the words, "Filmed in Supermarionation." 6:22 No, that's not at all what the word "indestructible" implies. The show outright explains that Captain Scarlet retained the Mysterons' power of retro-metabolism, which allows him to heal from even a fatal injury. Since when do you have to be a puppet to be indestructible? And they don't say "invincible" because he doesn't always win the day. He can still be defeated.
This is the best episode you've ever done. Absolute nostalgia heaven of my favourite supermarionation and great editing. Stupid grin. I'm going to binge all of these now
Despite this game probably having bad controls there is a chance that the controls are worse in the emulator or that certain controls/commands doesn't work. Thats something to consider when the controls are exceptionally bad. It happened to me with Baldurs gate: Dark Alliance in PCSX2. Every button promt worked perfectly but the R2 button (for health potions) refused to register so I had to manually go into the menu and select health potions. I used a wired Xbox 360 controller but it works with every other game, and for a few minutes it worked in Dark Alliance too before it stoped working again for the rest of the game.
So good to see Ben swooning over the TV series. Didn't get much of Captain Scarlett here, but we did get Thunderbirds here and I feel like I'm on the same page as Ben with Thunderbirds (my bro and I had Tracy Island).

Missed out Joe 90 in the intro. Also I remember captain scarlet, but I always watched stingray and thunderbirds more. Still had a die cast model of his car though, dunno what happened to it tho...
I always assumed that the Mysterons would zombify or even clone those they take over, so in fact Captain Scarlet is indeed dead and the one we see in the show working for Spectrum (post episode 1) is in fact something akin to a Mysteron rogue agent lol.
At least the exterior of the car is modelled nicely although, considering the windows are blacked out, they clearly didn't model an interior so you can't actually see the character who is the title of the game. The missed opportunity here is that it was pretty common in Playstation 2 racing games to have an inanimate driver (usually wearing a helmet with an opaque visor) that is like a puppet whose arms are controlled by the steering wheel, so it would have been extra meta if the driver in question was modelled after an actual puppet.
I had no idea this existed. I remember watching Captain Scarlet in Spanish once in a while as a kid. I didn't understand any of it, but loved the animation.
