Pretty impressive times Donnalouise. You are doing great. If you rewatch the USA nationals, most people had to deal with space and how to use it wisely. The box tilting technique looks promising and I would just make sure you ask if they would allow to use it at worlds with your laptop. I think watching others do competitions can give you great tips. Like there was no use for trays at the USA national puzzle competition, they just slowed people down
Thank you!! I would be able to use my stand at worlds but I don't have a laptop so that wouldn't be a concern. I did see teams at the USA Nationals use trays but yeah, for individuals it is a bit in the way unless you have large areas of solid colours. I always have them handy just in case but often don't use them. I need to check on the rules for Canada and see what is allowed.
I knew you'd do well on your times!!! Even with the 1hr 39min one you were SO CLOSE to getting under 90 min. And congrats on the sponsorship!!! You will do them proud!!! I'm catching up on videos so you will be in Canada by the time you see this. GO DONNALOUISE!!!!
Some great times there with your flip method. Wow a sponsor for Worlds, fantastic news, you must be over the moon. 👍I do the vast majority of my jigsaws using the full flip method. If it's a gradient one then I will sort by colour as I am flipping. I am working my way through the Circle of Colours puzzles and of the eight I have done so far, the fastest was Candies 1:43:04 and the slowest was Pizza 3:38:15. Intriguing how different images give you quite different times. Look forward to hearing about your visit to Canada in May.
I am absolutely ecstatic!!! I wish I could get my hands on more Circle of Colours puzzles - hopefully pick some up in Canada. I am very image dependent - one will seem so easy and the other so much more difficult.
I love seeing your technique improving over the course of this video. Even though it may not feel like it yet (since youve started with difficult puzzles) I think if you continue with this technique, the minutes will keep going down over time, even more on simple 500 piece puzzle designs. Your time on the savanna for example was really good for the complexity of the image.
You're doing great! You can really tell that you're improving puzzle by puzzle. That vintage cookbook puzzle is my favorite style of puzzle: collage. I just did a Winnie the Pooh stamp puzzle by Tefl (I think that was the brand, something close to it anyway!) and I loved it because it was so easy to sort. I just made a bunch of piles and focused on those stamps and eventually I had the whole thing put together. White Mountain has a ton of them too and I have a hard time resisting buying them! Congrats on the sponsorship! That's awesome!
It was announced today at our online competition, 🇨🇦 Nationals are now 100% sold out and there will be 501 puzzlers attending! 🎉 These were all great speed run puzzles. The koalas and lions looked so challenging! You rocked the lions! 5minute flip and sort is amazing!
Wow 501 puzzlers! That's awesome!! I was quite pleased to get my full flip and edge sort down to 5mins. That's fast for me and I will keep working on it.
Any chance the Canadian nationals will have a live stream we can watch? So cool You’re pairing with Janette!! (Or wait is that for worlds only?) Lmk thanks!
I don't think they will be livestreamed however, I will be filming to making post competition recap videos. Janette can't make it to Canada - we are pairing and teaming up for Worlds.
Aww congratulations on the sponsorship. 🎉 It’s well deserved. You did well with the puzzles. Well done on your time for the last one you did. My guess was 4 minutes out.
Thank you! I was really pleased with how I did on all these puzzles. I need to keep practicing but other puzzles just seem to get in the way! I good problem to have 🤣
Haha the whispering and giggling at the end was so funny 😂😂. How exciting!! As someone who has done both manatee moments and koalas I knew they were tough. Thought the lions were gonna be 3rd, but what a great time you had on that one! Cant wait to follow along the competition in Canada, youre gonna have so much fun!!
Stijn you are doing so well and getting faster than me! We are all going to have so much fun in Spain together. I can't wait to see all my family in Canada - puzzling, family and friend! YEAH!!!
Hey... I have the "Lions in the Savanna" puzzle... My box is a lot smaller... like Buffalo box size. I still haven't done it... I got it from Dollarama for $5 Canadian. It's a pretty puzzle. But I'm not the biggest Ravensburger fan... so it takes me awhile to get motivated to do them. Eventually I will try it. Great job on flying through that!!!!
@@fortheloveofpuzzles I get my Eeboo puzzles from Dollarama. The selection is limited... and some brands aren't the best... but I have lucked out on occasion. Even the Montoy brands aren't that bad. I have been getting the Montoy puzzles that come in cardboard tubes. More so because my hubby likes the tubes for storage.
Congratulations on the sponsor! And great work with the full flip method. I thought the koalas would be the hardest. The lions were a surprise, you rocked it! And congratulations on New York postcard in under an hour! Great work overall
Having done the lions and koalas before, I knew the koalas would be worse! It's good to practice different flip methods and have a "default" method, but I really do think it depends on the puzzle. My default is full flip while sorting edges and 1-2 other things in 5-6min. But that's not for everyone! With your pick-and-place mind, you'd probably be great at puzzle chess! (Congrats on a sponsor!!)
Maybe I should pick out one or two things when doing the full flip - if something stands out to me. I am doing one speed run today and I'll think of the image and whether or not I can pull something out as I flip. I like already having pieces ready to work on assembling when done flipping. 💜🧩
I’m taking your advice and working on full flip! My guess is- manatee moments will be slower than koalas. I’ve done MM and it is tough! Wow on your secret!! You deserve it! ❤❤❤❤
Comments as we go: I've done Manatee and you beat me by 7 minutes. I notice you are standing up like Alejandro! I wonder why you don't prop the box up at 90%, but maybe it's because you're standing? Congratulations on breaking the hour mark on that last one!
Whenever I try to speed run sitting down, I just can't!!! I have to stand up. I think I like the feeling of a near top-down view. I will sit if it's a long pairs puzzle like 1k or for teams. But most of the time I do end up standing. Don't know why... My back hates me for it though!
I don't actually use my phone to record - but am planning on buying a new one soon for this exact purpose. I do have this little adapter thing with I use on my tablet that can be used on a phone as well. It like screws on to the top of my tripod and then like pinches the phone/tablet to hold it. I also have a ring light with a stand stand attachment that I will start to use once I get the new phone.
@@fortheloveofpuzzles Could you show us how you use it in your next puzzle video? Visual is better! That way, we don't transport so much stuff to make more room for puzzles!
@@bettyc.6280 I'm not sure when I would be able to record a video about my filming setup as it is always such a mess, and I need to use my equipment to film. Also, I have a different setup when I travel and film at competitions.
So happy for you and the sponsorship! 😄💜🧩 It's looking like full flip might be the way to go. And the holder for the puzzle box top is super helpful. The boxes on top of your puzzle-in-progress had me so nervous 😛
I know right?! I needed the box to have its place and not get in my way but I also needed it to have a good angle. This was an easy and best solution for me.
Love your series of videos, I'm just starting out with speed puzzling and exploring what works for me. I really appreciate the commentary on what makes a puzzle hard and comparison on methods like full flip vs full sort vs place as you go
Yes, we do get to see close ups. Good discussion about the flip, the set up, and speed puzzling. Thanks! 💕
Congrats on the sponsorship, I'm so happy for you, Donnalouise! Your joy for puzzling is so contagious!
Thank you! Well if I'm contagious for something, I'm glad it's for my puzzling!
