William S. Heartburn and Tom Mixed-Up are references to silent Western actors William S. Hart and Tom Mix. Chris Hayward, for those who don't know, was a silent movie buff. He would later bring this affinity to some of Jay Ward's later series, most notably Fractured Flickers (which he created) and the Dudley Do-Right segments (which he developed with Lloyd Turner).
Note how Doc Stein's truck's license plate number includes "TVS"- undeniably a reference to TV Spots, the studio that, among other accomplishments, produced the color Crusader Rabbit series, and also animated and directed a handful of "Fractured Fairy Tales" for Rocky and His Friends.
@@ChristopherSobieniak Yup. Total Tv was ultimately created by Dancer-Fitzgerald-Sample, General Mills’ advertising agency, to keep Gamma busy during Jay Ward’s off-seasons. D-F-S invested in Gamma, so the more work going into the animation studio, the more money for the agency.
