This game is best described as "taking the role of utilities engineer working for a clinically insane city planner."
It also shows why electricians do not like to work on "old work".
@@charlesfranks1902 no profession likes "old work", electricians, plumbers, programmers, it's all the same incomprehensible mess of nonsensical decisions piled on top of a precarious tower of mistakes no one wants to spend the time untangling and fixing.
This is just a behind the scenes of cities skyline
i'd describe it as very mini-metro/motorways cop-... ahem, inspired
@@Soken50As someone who went from sysadmin to programmer, I can confirm it for both trades.
Matt, unable to realize the overpowered nature of the pipes as they allow you to cross your wires over the void.
Hello, I'm the developer of this game. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you very much for playing this!
Thank you for making it cross-platform! We non-Windows people appreciate the extra work you put in and I will definitely buy this game when it's time for me to treat myself again (probably this week).
"It's all about the pipework" Truer words have never been spoken Matt. Truly a Scholar you are.
We really need rce to play mini motorway again. I always loved that.
Just imagine someone building their house on a Trafo station and blaming the city. Top tier trolling.
Hamster-powered generators? I was led to believe that they usually are beaver-powered. Heresy!!
This game is like hanging Christmas lights and trying to figure out where to plug them all in.
They should make a game for that.
We all know that there is no hamsters in those wheels. Its beavers being shamed
I've designed a lot of single-layer circuit boards and this game brings back unpleasant memories.
I did the trig, diagonal wires are actually the square root of 2, which is around 1.4.
I think instead of scoring based on using special tools, it'd be neat for it to score on shortest routes. At least make it an alternative scoring system. I suppose it depends on what's considered "efficient."
Especially because it only counts at the end. You can use the advanced parts to get through the levels and then fix it at the very end and it shouldn't affect the score.
@DavidGuild would be nice to have a counter for deleting paths too(maybe scroring too). Only deleteing previous day's path count. So you're still able to play and mess around with ideas in present day.
@@takumi2023 Interesting.
@@takumi2023i prefer the current scoring ststem especially over the no-deleting part since this game f**ks you every couple rounds with houses that force you to rebuild the entire grid
Man I could watch Matt laying pipe all day long
If you'd clear away rocks, the game would stop spawning houses on the connections 😂
Plowing on without reading what the game's telling you as always!
Imagine if he would be better than Aliensrock in this game
not happening
Happening. Becuace I don't have to imagine
Tyler played this game for much longer.
Rce is better 😊
I think tyler/aliensrock already got 100% in this game, all maps perfect.@@user-ci5vq3fi7h
I got recommended this video 47 seconds after it was uploaded!
I think the South African government needs to give this game a try
this looks about right for a engineer , all a mess and not worried about the guy who has to fix it or make it rational . lol
Hi RCE! Nice to see another video. Thanks for amazing content!
I really liked this game! Would be fun to see more.
the square root of 2 is 1.5... yeah, this game was made by engineers.
Imagine over time how much wire they’re scamming you out of. I’m appalled at this disgraceful disgracefulness.
Square root of 2.25 is 1.5. Square root of 2 is 1.4142135624
@@MrEmiosk that’s Gerard’s joke I think. The engineers have rounded it
@@MrEmioskr/woooosh
Can’t wait for a resource game like this making a diagonal actually cost exactly the square root of 2 units (which is how far a perfect 45° diagonal is for those who didn’t know)
Purple lines go snakin' 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside.
me being colorblind and taking longer than I'm comfortable to realize the plants are color coded
You can have the same experience with drawing PCBs.
This is basically Altium with cats😅
0:49 "you can do the trigonometry if you don't believe me." Ok then, this is really simple. Assuming one line's length to be 1 unit, then a diagonal bisecting that tile (assumed to be perfectly square) corner to corner forms a 45-45-90 isosceles triangle. Sides A and B are 1 unit long each, and the diagonal line is the longest, called the hypotenuse. Using the Pythagorean Theorem, we can determine the length of the diagonal, line c. The theorem states that a^2 + b^2 = c^2. If a and b are both one unit long, then we get 1+1=c^2. Therefore c^2=2. If we take the square root of both sides, we get c is approximately equal to 1.44 units long, which is indeed longer than one unit long. You're welcome :P
Yes to this project. pls more
very neat little game
I'd like to see a continuation of this
This is a great game, and it's inexpensive, too!
the blue bridge!! why havent you already seen that!.. aaahh. good video! enjoyed it
and as i paused, he removed it. gr8. my man!
This is actually how BT built their original infrastructure
Ooh this sounds fun!!
The orientation of the map should motivate to build in an angle to spare cables. But also we are so used to vuild horzontal and vertical. Its funny to see
Mat using constantly diagonals instead of straight cable on block next to makes me anxious, as they cost more.
If he can use a diagonal that means that he is saving 0.5 wires because if he didn’t he would instead use 2 wires, do the trig.
Great video found new videos to look out for
It do be looking like mini motorways^^
Who-who-Who's the Real Civil Engee? two elevated motorways 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside
The planning officer needs dragging out in to the car park...
guess its time to rewatch it already
I haven't watch the full video, so might delete, but you are using a lot of diagonal wires, where you could use straight ones. From counting at 7:19 you are using 4 diagonals, where you could use straights, which would amount to 2 full wires!!!!
Didn't mat already play some power management game some time ago?
he set his electrical wires ablaze before explaning how to paraller plug your powerstations.
They can’t build on hammer tiles. You can manipulate late game spawn by freeing up specific flat tiles
3:32 "ME-thane"?!
Civil Engineer tries Electrical Engineering! *** GONE WRONG ***
Love you RCE
That looks like I face when I do PCB designs
Turn 2 more wires and hammers were used than needed. If he went from the 2 next to the plant he'd of used 1 less tile and therefore less wires
Amazing content! Please can you play wandering village again, I miss onbu 🥺
Those are wheels of shame!!!
i love the first level and i love cats but paddy is the best
I think you should do a revisit of "Power of the People"
Will you do more of Engitopia, kinda miss you messing around there in Cities Skylines. 🙂
The diagnal measurement of a square is 1.414x the length of one side
I'm glad somebody else said this, I did not commit the .707/1.414 rule in to my rickety skyscraper of a long-term memory for nothing! Trigonometry Boosh 🤜🎇🤛!
@cryptoneo im a machinist so its come in handy to know quite often
I believe the purple plant is geothermal. The cooling towers and coming from the ground is a stylized wind turbine. But poo power if funnier run with it.
0:50 "you can do the trigonometry if you dont believe me"
if you do the trigonometry, you get 1.4142... (root 2)
I believe the purple plant is ground heat source generator.
Good vid like always
how’d you watch a 22 minute video 3 minutes after it was posted?
You don’t know and will never know@@landonp9829
matt, why do you go diagonal to connect a house when you can also just go straight and connect to the wire which would save you 2 pieces of wire over the whole board
Has anyone ever imagined matt saying, "OMG it shat on a turtle?" just wondering
They're stealing 0.086 wires every diagonal! It's larceny.
Tyler: its orange, not red
Matt: PINK
This reminds me of mini metro but with electricity
If you saved a jumper at the end you could have used it to get rid of the plant at the end😉
i can use the shapes to do a pixelart
This reminds me of city skylines
Too good to use syndrome is silly in a game where you can undo anything at any time... lol
RCE: Each diagonal cost 1,5 (do the math)
RCE: Uses mostly diagonals
Because using two horizontal or vertical wires costs more
as an electrician, cat lover and gamer this is a big W
Power plant 3 is probably geo-thermal
watchin rce use diagonals when he couldve used a straight and saved wires is so sad
if you did the trigonometry, the 1.5 would actually be 1.42 something, as it's actually sqrt(2) long, not 1.5. I guess it's a reasonable aproximation tho
the diagonals are actually the length of root 2
8:05 i got so frustrated at that part bc of how u didnt see that you could easily sort that out
Looks like of mathematical unaccuracies (also
known as rounding), diagonals are less efficient.
Hexagon grid please
Does his voice change in the middle of the video or am I just getting insane?
Wait...are you telling me there was bridges in this video but no BRIDGE REVIEW???
Op big fan of paddy
This game reminds me of PCB design
Was that, "around the outside" x3 a Chef John reference?
Do power to the people again!
What?! No Bridge review?? The outrage!!
I just got a mini motorways ad
If I did trigonometry,
If each block was of lenght L
Then the half diagonal would be of lenght L/2 + L/√2
And full of L√2
There is no 1.5L in lenght so the calculation is wrong...
The diagonal should be square root 2 (1.41421...), but the game approximates it to 1.5 not to deal with complicated fractions.
@@pyglik2296 alright, calculations aren't 'accurate' then
I'm not a math guy, but I think it is Pythagorean theorem right?
@@knobhack vectors, straight lines, any concept, simple maths
is there a beaver in the blue powerpant getting shamed?
Lisa! In this house we obey the Laws of Thermodynamics!
I bet you could learn some good strategy from this game if you watched Aliensrock's videos on it, perhaps you've heard of him. XD
It's not rocks by the cat it's just the texture of the cat.
Those are clearly shaming wheels not hamster powered generators.
OMG Nikolas Tesla’s dream finally came true
You didn't do a bridge review :((( P.S. love the game
there were bridges, but no brigde review? what is going on!? 😱
Only an engineer ould figure this out
This game looks frustrating lol
Could just say: Shaming wheel
I assume different colours mean different power frequency.
These game devs have never lived in South Africa
Not a hamster wheel... it's a beaver shaming wheel
5 hammers before and 5 hammers after. It just look less. But it is not. hehe
