Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and comprehensive review. You actually understood the world really well and your description is the best take I've heard yet. (The only part that wasn't quite spot-on is that the destins [women] grow from infancy in the lakes, in the pods of a mystical aquatic plant. Their DNA comes partly from the earth and partly from men who go through a "shedding" phase when older, explained in the later books.) Your take on the themes was definitely spot on, especially "duty vs. desire", and the other themes as well. That was great to hear! Thank you for sticking with it!!
Awesome! Wow, that origin of the destins is wild. I knew it could have been something like that, but I didn't have enough info yet, and that was TOO far a leap for me to guess. 😄 I look forward to reading more of the series.

Excellent review. Kumasagi and Leslee are both absolute gems.
It that The Eye Of The Universe I spy on your bookshelf?
I can’t wait to hear Jim’s thoughts on The Eye of the Universe if he reads it. It’s one of my favorite books and one I love to discuss!
And yes, that is indeed what you see on the bookshelf. A read still to come!
