If you liked Sydney & Serena’s characters - you would probably like the second book, vengeful a lot more- WAY more focus is on new, completely badass lady characters
I have to say I love Vicious with all my life BUT THIS WAS THE MOST AWESOME REVIEW FOR THAT BOOK! I laughed my ass of because this was so good and I can understand everything you say, despite loving this book so much. You are great! Also enjoyed how tou got real in the end and analysed everything properly. Just subscribed!

Love this! I’m not sure if Victor is gay, he is canonically asexual, but you can definitely tell how much tension he and Eli have. By the way, your “trash” is 👌🏽.

Oh I had no idea he was asexual! Where was this confirmed? I don’t remember reading that in the book

Even with Angie . . . he’d wanted her, of course, wanted her attention, her devotion, even her love. He’d cared about her, would have found ways to please her-and perhaps found his own pleasure in that-but for him, it had never been about sex.”

Vicious is a magical experience, as much as I appreciate Victor ELI IS THE REAL MVP OF THIS BOOK. Evil religious zealot who is hella gay for his roommate/nemesis? Sign me the fuq up.

7:45 to be fair, the book said that he was influencing everyone around him with just a tiny bit of pain where their unconscious self would notice it.
I HATE when other book fans of the book go crazy on other fans because they wanted something a little different even though you loved the book but because you don't see that same thing they see, they acted liked you committed a sin. People like those make the book community horrible. Also, loved this cause everyone keeps saying they are in move with each other 😹. I can't wait to read this.
the ironic part is I actually agree with everything that commenter said about the book and characters, but some people think appreciating a book and making thirst jokes about it are mutually exclusive lol 😜
My copy of Vicious turns up tomorrow so this was perfect timing!

I loved this book, but you making fun of it made it even better! I adore your sense of humor. And yes, GAY. I was highkey shipping these two, which probably says a lot about my standards and lack of good ships... but you know. I loved how flawed they were and that there was no good character except for Sydney. She's a whole sun (along with Mitch). But I wasn't as invested in female characters and liked males more, but I guess I didn't grow up from adoring angsty arrogant bad boys yet.
Also I love that in your outros you put music related to the theme of the video. That's a nice touch.

Finallyy a non spoiler-y review that explores the story rather than speaking from the back cover sypnosis 😆 I was thinking twice of getting myself a copy, now I just have to get one! let's be real, half of book reviews are just people summarizing the book LOL i like to use it as an excuse for dumb jokes tho. ooh if you love anime i think you will def enjoy this book! it's dark and dramatic fun which is why it reminded me so much of shonen and other moody/action anime series

I read this book a year or two ago and I actually liked it. I usually don't read books without romance per say, but this was a book that kept it interesting and was executed quite well. I agree with your review. Also, your content is top notch! Literally I laughed so hard while watching your after review and your interviewing of a ya female protagonist.

haha I jot down my thoughts in my phone notes as I read along and then use them as reference when I film a review. so for example as I was reading along I typed in my phone "I'm rooting for nobody cuz they're both fucking crazy". LOL you're right, we're all in a john green novel, including you and that starbucks barista. I have actually read the archived and ADSOM before so this is my 3rd schwab series :) I appreciate that she makes all of her books so different from each other!

Same I tend to love female characters in books more than males- I think Sydney was my fave throughout the novel.
sydney is a big fave among readers! i think i like serena best but she got done so dirty towards the end

I loved Vicious. I love that it relished in the darkness of the characters and they were mostly (or completely) unapologetic about it. It was a fun read. Kind of reminded me of the Cruel Prince trilogy. Also, the tension between Victor and Eli is so ugh. In a good way. I don’t ship them but I kind of do in a joking way.

On Schwab not having enough non-white characters: well, there is the Maresh family in ADSOM? I'm pretty sure that particular world was built to be diverse. I haven't read Monsters of Verity yet though so can't comment on that. But to be fair, Eli and Victor are both privileged AF even before their whole downhill superhero escapade. That is probably a big part of the story too.
I was also thinking of ADSOM when she made that comment. lol
I beg to disagree, Eli was never privileged. Read his backstory in Vengeful.

please read Victoria Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic trilogy it is fascinating, has more diversity, the world building is incredible and so interesting, and you truly fall in love with the characters. it’s my all time fav series and i think you would like it.
This is quality content!! I own Vicious and I predicted it as a five star read haha I want to read it before the year ends and see if I’ll actually like it.

I haven’t read any VE Schwab but I really want to start with this one and I’ve just started this review so I don’t know if this has been mentioned but the author confirmed that Victor is asexual from just watching reviews and knowing what it’s about I thought and was hoping that the characters were gay too but no Victor’s asexual.
That’s still some representation though.
LMAO I loved this!! I definitely see what you mean with the lack of depth in character motivations and just the side characters as well. This book was a lot of fun to read and I rated it five stars but something still felt like it was lacking? A good revenge plot is fun and all but I'm still confused about what happened to fully make them turn against each other to the point where I'm pretty sure half of my understanding of their characters is just what I've made up by myself to justify their actions.
yeah i definitely agree, the total 180 for them to become mortal enemies seemed random (especially on eli's part, whereas victor's resentment seemed to have been building for a while). i think the sequel will help add more context to their animosity though!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Syndey is a pure cinnamon roll. But it's true that Victor has a lot of gay vibes, I read something on Schwab's twitter that he's probably asexual. On your whole comment of anime, Her favorite anime is Cowboy bee-bop so I can see it. This is one of my favorite books, and I am way to excited for the next book to come out. I have waited so long and now the time has finally come.
I basically watched your video twice, once before I read the book and then the second time right after I finished! it added so much more context, I loved hearing your thoughts on it. I could definitely see cowboy bebop influences in the story, esp with the mismatched cast of characters.

New to the channel, thanks for this review!! I'll be bell susbcribing and definitely reading that book. If you enjoyed the multiple perspectives and felt there could be more fleshing out of the characters, I'd recommend the Zeroes trilogy by Scott Westerfeld and others. It's a YA superhero novel, again with no real heroes, but I think the authors worked together well to produce a narrative with less unnecessary cheese. There's not really a "what is the origin of my powers" period, which I kind of loved, and it's much more centered on the actual characters from the start.

you're the quality content the world doesn't know it needs yet tbh 💗 i'd been putting this one off for a while bc i'm not into superhero stories (except for spiderman and my hero academia) and i wasn't sure exactly what kind of vibe i'd get from reading this? like i think my love of spiderman just comes from peter parker himself, being so sarcastic and funny and a big ol' nerd, and mha just bc i'm anime trash, but the vibes from those aren't the same i'd get from say, batman, or superman. but everyone's been loving this, and i'm always down for some fun. your comparison to cowboy bebop (holy shit i just wrote beep boop at first without a second thought) was surprising but interesting! i may have to get around to this book one day 😁 also dude, your outro songs are always so perfect

To me it was the opposite: I liked both Eli and Victor but didn't care about Serena and Sydney at all :)
