    It's those subtle cues, the boring subway ride at the beginning, your "typical night in a big city ER", paying with cash and a drivers license, listening to the FM radio jingle before turning the radio off, those TINY cues that the writers throw in to hint at the absolute MAYHEM about to go down. Even Waingro plays his role to perfection in those cues by LEAVING his coffee cup behind at the cafe, his first of many missteps that none of the other characters ever make. The other characters move SEAMLESSLY from the mundane, into a world of absolute mayhem, while Waingro takes that same journey, but kicking and screaming, attracting attention, making noise the whole way. He can't keep it together, either in a "normal" world or in a "criminal" world. The heat is on him like a cheap suit.

    Like many people, I didn't appreciate this film when it came out. I watched it again about 10 years ago and I've played it around 3 times a year ever since. It was totally ahead of its time. The acting, action, atmosphere and the incredible cinematography make this one of the best movies of its era. Everyone involved in this film has taken their craft to the highest level. It's a perfectly executed display of thespian and directorial virtuosity. Even Pacino's occasional "exuberant" moments don't take anything away from it. "Style over content" seemed to be the general consensus but I think we just weren't ready yet.

      The personalities were among the many realistic aspects of this film. Cheritto is a pro- he’s been around the underworld most of his life, including stints in prison, and he recognized a guy like Waingro right away. Cherrito knew Waingro was an undisciplined loud mouth who needed to prove how tough he was in every situation and that he had an easily bruised ego and acted impulsively: basically the antithesis of Neal’s regular crew. Cheritto knew right away that a guy like Waingro was a bad “hire” but was probably all they could get.

    Tom Sizemore's character (Michael) wore "gangster" like a second skin with the way he looked at Waingro. Notice he knew Waingro was eyeballing him; a lesser character's insitnct would be to stare him down right back while glancing back at the road occasionally. Michael performed the very important act of stopping first, and then returned the glare of dominance - giving Waingro an opportunity to resume his own. Which he, quite tellingly, declined. Waingro is a "power-and-control" type, too; and his loss of power there is possibly part of why he took it out on that young pro later.

      Agree. Also if Michael didn't case the precious metals place after his dinner with the crew, Hanna would have never gotten on to him and the rest. He should have stayed home that night instead of going out on his own to check the future burglary site. Neil did not know he was doing it until he told them later. By then, Hanna was on to them.

      Disagree, Waingro was a serial killer. He got off on killing, killing might have been the reason he wanted to do the job in the first place.

    What’s funny about this is Waingro is on a job interview of sorts…then he is told to stop talking which caused all the issues in the movie for the most part…can you imagine going in for a job interview and being told to shut up? I would be glaring also 😂

      "Slick" usually means a clever person with street smarts, but here Tom Sizemore's character uses it in a derogatory/negative manner. He is basically saying "Shut up, you idiot".

    • @VanillaLimeCoke

      @@jameshoran8
      Perhaps. That could be why Neil was a bit upset and didn’t want to talk to Nate about it.
      It could’ve been anyone of them.
      Cerritos is the guy that picks him up
      I always ask why did Waingro force Trejo to go along with the plan…..maybe he was the guy who recruited Waingro and he knew how to get to him
      Chris perhaps. He looks very nervous in this scene. Later he keeps staring at him in the diner. But it makes me think Chris set the armored truck job up but he also had to recruit an extra guy. I suspect this because of the hard time Charlene gives him so he needed the cash. He says a trip to Vegas and Super Bowl XXVIII put him in debt.
      I doubt Neil would’ve recruited him. He seems to have the sense of Wolf and would’ve sniffed out Waingro’s history just be seeing or hearing him.

    • @jameshoran8
      @jameshoran8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VanillaLimeCoke The deleted scene shows Waingro and his pals were holding Trejo's wife hostage. If I had been Trejo, I would have told Neil and the crew could have hit the house and gotten rid of Waingro and Benny right there. The bank probably was out the window as they would have discovered the alarms shut off, but Neil and the crew be in tack and they live for another day.
