    Good shooting bud. I started deer hunting in the mid 1980’s with a recurve and I know how challenging it was for me to be accurate. You make it look easy. I went to a compound in the 1990’s and switched to a recurve crossbow in 2010. I do have a tremendous amount of respect for traditional archers because I know the amount of discipline and practice it takes to be consistent. I should have stuck with traditional in the 80’s. There is just something magical about watching those arrows hit the mark without the use of sights. Great video and great shooting.

    Hey there Crockett! I tried reading all the comments on this video but didn’t see anyone ask this. I am curious if in your release does your string hit your nose? If so does it get raw after awhile or is yours just used to it after all your years of shooting? I ask because I have noticed that good archers who shoot super small objects hit their noses once string releases. Is that another key to being super accurate? Love your videos. Short sweet and to the point. Thank you

    I go back to the Ear front of canal cartilage with top finger to my set point on release and I use a modified Howard Hill/Split Vision though more with the object blurry then the arrow as if the arrow is blurry then I get odd eye pain, sometimes in worst case head pains when aiming. Other thing with this is I can focus on the object I am trying to hit more with the arrow not blurry as the arrow also likes to go double in my vison when I let it go blurry as close items to my face tend to do when not in focus due to going cross eye when trying to focus outside the closer object. Then other times I have to have both in almost focus, mini blur to both if I am really struggling to hit the object on those days or having eye pains with either object or arrow being blurry. There are also some rare days the arrow needs to be blurry to shoot but those are often due to a rare thing if the target is going double vison more then the close object when they are blurry.
    Edits: I forgot to mention I am split finger so only the top finger above arrow is touching the spot. I am using glove though the almost string type unless I am using a set of all leather gardening/work gloves with the smoother fingers to them, both in the pair for winter.

    Thanks in advance,
    MS.

    • @bluegretchen
      @bluegretchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bow Im shooting in this video has a G10 riser. That produces a different sound and I personally believe to vibrate slightly more than wood. The silencers help with both. Traditional Archery is about the feel of the bow, there in no CORRECT way to shoot or set up your bow. This feels good to me. Don't be afraid to experiment.

    Got hooked on your videos, very inspiring. How long do you think your draw length is? I ask because my form is similar to yours (no where near as accurate, but similar anchor point, grip, release, follow-through point, etc...), but I get a feeling I'm short drawing. Almost like I'm only pulling 40 or so pounds of my 55 pound bow. I'm generally accurate (for myself, not compared to you) and the arrow flies well, but it just doesn't feel like the arrow has enough behind it for hunting, which I'm trying to get into.
    When I try to alter my form to try and increase my draw (opening the chest, anchoring further back), my shots go all over. I start getting string slap, it sounds terrible like I'm plucking the string, arrow wobbles. So I'm wondering if I should maybe just get an even heavier bow and just keep my draw to see if that helps get some additional arrow speed. So I guess my questions are, do you know your draw length and do you feel you're pulling the entire poundage of your bow?

    • @bluegretchen
      @bluegretchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. My draw length is 26 1/2 inches. If a Bow is 50 lbs at 28 inches I'd still be pulling around 46 ish pounds with my draw length. ( I figure 2 1/2 pounds per inch is lost per inch) I personally would worry about accuracy and sharp broadhead and then a quiet bow way better I'd worry about speed. People drop deer all the time with 40 lb bows. ( Find out what the legal specifications in your state are and go from there) Good luck and Aim small.

    • @lotsofstuff3860
      @lotsofstuff3860 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not the most accurate archer but also not the worst. I sucked at it and was about to bag the whole thing until I recently got lured back in by a cheap and awesome bow (black hunter). I decided to get a really light draw weight in order to concentrate more on my form and less on the heavy draw. It was a major game changer. After a lot of practice I can now shoot my 45” and 55” bows accurately. I don’t think I’d want to hunt with anything heavier than 45”, personally.

    Very nice of you to share this strategy. I can identify with so much of what you said. Everything in traditional archery seems to be some kind of compromise. My technique has evolved by sacrificing “perfect geometrical form” by raising the anchor point close to my eye. There are a few advantages for this especially when shooting from unorthodox positions. I like what you said about gleaning from other shooters. Heard the pail drop analogy before, but it is the first i heard about the golf ball follow through though. Great video. Excellent form and shooting accuracy. I have recently dedicated to using the feather to the nose technique. When I am able to execute my shooting is much improved but I still sometimes can not draw completely to get the feather to touch and am essentially short drawing. I believe my problem is having too much focus on the target and not enough focus on completing the touch of the feather. I would be willing to bet if you are getting negative responses it is due to some jealousy and low self esteem on their part.

    What shooting tab do you use and does the tab contact the string when shooting . . . I use a SAM tab and the leather with my finger tips behind the leather of the SAM pulls the string . . . from your video it appears that your tab does not touch the string . . . btw, my Acadian Woods Bow will be shipped next week . . . do you remember you did a video for me on the Acadian Woods bow?

      Your going to be really happy. I use a Bateman tab. My tab certainly touches my string...not exactly sure what you mean by that. Be well.

    I can overall aim but I don’t know how to be accurate. Don’t know if that make sense but let’s say I’m shooting at a 8 inch wide circle at 20 yards, it’ll hit it or right beside it but it won’t hit what I was aiming at. It just get close to it. It’s not precise. I’ve been shooting for about 2 years and I have been struggling with this ever since. I don’t use an exact technique but just shoot instinctively by muscle memory.

    • @bluegretchen
      @bluegretchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aim for a small spot on the plate, not the actual plate. Draw a dot if you have to. You're only going to be as accurate as what you ask your brain to hit. Be as specific as possible.

      I use point of aim past 23 ish yards. I find for me personally it's more accurate at longer distances than being instinctive.👍

      String wax works just as well, I don't do it because it's part of my shot routine. It funny how many people get annoyed by it. I don't even know Im doing it.

Infact...I did. Thanks for watching.

    You said that you bring the arrow to just under your dominant eye for close shots up to 15 yards. Where do you hold when it’s beyond that say 25 yards? The fletching touching your nose is great idea for everyone that has a long enough nose, unfortunately my nose is short 😂 but still an excellent suggestion. This is the first time watching any of your videos but It’s so good, I’m subscribing. Looking forward to watch your other videos. Dig your beard and mustache too.

      I often use a technique called face walking. I have different anchor points on my face. By combining point of aim and face walking I can be somewhat accurate out two 60 yards. 👍
