That's completely unnecessary. Foam does not equal washing strength. Foam comes from detergents and soaps with high amounts of sulfates. Modern detergents particularly those formulated for washing machines are intentionally made with low amounts of sulfates to avoid foaming but are the most powerful of the batch. So putting bar soap for "foam" is an outdated practice.
