Remember: Greece became subject of Rome, not viceversa. At the end, not even the kingdoms derived from the Macedonian Empire were able to stop Rome from conquering them. 4) The first recorded cookbook was found in Ancient Mesopotamian clay tablets from 1700 BC. The original Greek expression Megálē Hellás (lit. 'Great[er] Greece'), later translated into Latin as Magna Graecia, is attested for the first time in a passage from the 2nd century BC by the Greek historian Polybius[12] (written around 150 BC), where he ascribed the term to Pythagoras and his philosophical school.[13][14] Ancient authors use "Magna Graecia" to mean different parts of southern Italy,[15][16][17] including or excluding Sicily, Strabo and Livy being the most prominent advocates of the wider definitions.[18] Strabo used the term to refer to the territory that had been conquered by the Greeks.[19][20] There are various hypotheses on the origin of the name Megálē Hellás. The term could be explained by the prosperity and cultural and economic splendour of the region (6th-5th century BC); notably by the Achaeans of the city of Kroton, to refer to the network of colonies they founded or controlled between the end of the 6th and mid-5th centuries at the time of the Pythagoreans.[21]

I wanted to correct a misconception. Greeks don't eat pita every day. It's for souvlaki and gyros sandwiches and in restaurants for dips. We eat bread that is very similar to the rest of Europe on a daily basis. And pizza is the Italian word for pita (I.e. flat bread). Finally, greeks eat more potatoes than italians but less rice and pasta.
Pita flat bread is relatively new and it's actually a street food only. Greeks rarely bake flat bread and would buy only at the beginning of easter lent (kathara deftera) as a tradition. Pita is actually the fyllo stuffed with a variety of ingredients (spanakopita, tiropita etc).
I have many Italian friends and I can definitely see lots of cultural similarities especially with Southern Italians! By the way, the evil eye tradition doesn't come from Turks, it's the other way around basically! The whole theory about the evil eye, eye-distraction or the so called vaskania in Ancient Greek (βασκανία) comes from Ancient Greece! It comes from word φάσκω/βάσκω which means "to say" in modern Greek and it was referring to someone who slanders behind your back. This could also happen without any words being said, because the bad energy of the gaze can be emitted by someone, exclusively through his gaze, especially if he is blue-eyed. ;)

Do you have thalassemia?
No way. Greeks eat a huge amount of pasta (20 local varities) and heaps of rice dishes.
This could also happen without any words being said, because the bad energy of the gaze can be emitted by someone, exclusively through his gaze, especially if he is blue-eyed. ;)

The best holiday i ever had was in Athens. The food, the culture, the weather, the people.. if i could move there, I would.

She is absolutely the best example of " una faccia una razza". If you did n't know, she'd surely be mistaken for a southern italian beauty. Bellissima .

Probably not, they are clearly Americans as soon as they start talking.

The Greek is not the same as the Turkish coffee. The grounding in Turkish is fine but the Greek is not that fine grinded. Also we don't boil the coffee for as long as the Turkish. As long as it starts to rise we take it of, we never put it back on heat.
Thats true, also Greeks dont stare to drink, but wait for coffee to settle in the bottom
All coffee tastes like piss
@@jake-qn3tl opinion accepted but most people and especially me don't agree with you.
True. Greek coffee is also light roast, and Turkish is medium roast. The cooking method is the same, and that's all.

My wife is Greek. They have a lot of positives, but the same with the una faccia una razza. Never heard my entire life until I met her family.
Nope, they are the same with South Italians, with Central and North Italy not even remotely-
Funny, Im Greek & I have only ever heard that from Italians 😂

No, una faccia una razza with South Italy , not with whole Italy. A Tuscan or a Lombard has nothing to do with a Greek.
@@alessandrom7181 This is true. Just like a Southern Italian has nothing to do with a Northern German-Italian. No?

Facts Alexandro! 👌🏻
Ouzo should of been compared to Sambuca both aniseed flavour 👌
Yeah… many of the comparisons were a little off. Baklava should be compared to a pastry(like cannoli) not a cake/tiramisu. Ouzo should be compared to sambuca, frappe should be cold cappuccino ( not espresso) feta should be a good sharp semi soft cheese not compared to mild mozzarella.
I Guess when you’re brought up in America you’re taste is definitely a bit off 😮
