My engine sounds like this, the sound feels like a diesel engine! I was concerned that this sound is an anomaly. Please am I wrong?

I have the very same engine on my 407. Use Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 oil and you'll see the difference.

How do you know it's an ew10 engine? Vs the ew7 engine. How would you tell?

EW10J4 Engine has E0 engraved on the left side of Engine cylinder head, the side facing gearbox, directly above thermostat housing. Likewise, E7 is engraved on same location on EW7J4 engine.
On Engine block, behind intake manifold, EW10 is engraved on EW10J4 Engine.

No. All EW10 engines (EW10J4, EW10A, EW10D & EW10J4S) are 2.0 liters or cc.
