How did we come from this to the dev suing 100 steam users? He finally made a game that was playable and even if the assets were bought it doesn't look that bad (compare to Slaughtering Grounds). And instead of drawing conclusions and taking more time to develop his games he shot himself in the foot.
He brought it up on his blog - this game failed to make as much money as several bad games, which were quick to produce, so he concluded their was no point in making good games.
I find kinda sad that the villain tried turn into a good guy but there just wasn't any money in it so he decided to just go all in. Start suing people and making a billion shit games.

It's like, it's like "We Need to Talk About Kevin" book/movie. It's about a husband and a wife (Jim) their daughter and son, Kevin (DH). Kevin turns out to be a psychopath that kills his dad and sister and some other kids. At the end Mom and Kevin hug in a prison visit and Kevin shows a little touch of emotion by the hug. This is the hug in the Jim-DH saga. The one moment where they forget the past and connect as people, Mom - Son and in this case, Dev - Reviewer. If anyone got this simile, cool.
Still looks boring as sin to play... the enemies are slow and combat looks pathetically dull. This may be OK by DH standards, but that doesn't make it good in any way, shape, or form.

When used right premade assets in video games are a good thing. They provide a means for developers without heavy rendering/ modeling skill or experience to realize an artistic vision that otherwise they would not have the means to attain. Can they be abused? I think we can all say that they most certainly can but this isn't one of those cases. This is a developer who had a style in mind and used the tools available to build it better then it would have looked otherwise. Honestly there is no shame in using resources to improve a project. Honestly I think this is a fantastic start for DigiHom and a game I seriously will consider purchasing to support this change of heart. It is very rare to see developer do a full 180 and actually deserve a second chance to shine. I hope that this is one of those rarities. Great job Digital Homicide. I look forward to seeing how this game grows over the coming months.
I sincerely hope that they continue to try hard, and have good hearted communication with Jim. I do believe whole heartedly that if he can tell they are trying, he will be less likely to turn their efforts into jokes, and offer them valuable criticism. Not to mention, despite the fun ride the drama has been; everyone enjoys a happy ending. Their games may never be the best, but at least they can stop making the worst.

After a few minutes of searching on the Unity Asset Store, the only things I can find that they POTENTIALLY used are an environment pack called "Fantasy Environment" by BrainBox, and a creature pack called "Forest Creatures Pack" by Shop3DSA. I couldn't find a complete script pack or anything so I think Digital Homicide did code this one. Good on them!

Add in a couple similarly priced packs for the environment and I can barely imagine how this kind of cheapy flip is profitable. They surely can't sell that well in such a crowded market, can they?
So, let's not... exaggerate, alright? It looks playable, and that's about the only thing it got going for it. It's the best thing DH has produced so far, no doubt, but for crying out loud, it's not okay! It's not! Okay! The whole thing look repulsive. It does! It's aesthetically horrendous, and it's not going to change because DH, judging by their assets-buying history, can't really do 3D models of their own, nor can they really make significant changes to the ones they've bough. "Nice artstyle" my ass, Jim, "everything is green and blue, but mostly green and sometimes red-ish" is _not_ a "nice artstyle". 16:40 And that's one of the few enemies in the game that's not nauseatingly bright and colorful. Too bad it's T-shaped. Gameplay? Right now it's not much. It's, from what I can tell, basically "Mash that LMB", and that's it. You would expect slightly more than that in a game about mages, but it's the early access, so I guess I can't really justify that as a legitimate argumen. They could add more. Probably won't. And that's what bothers me the most - let's face it, Jim, after you praised their game they might as well try to release it as soon as possible - it's good enough, right? That's just the kind of people they are.

They'll probably throw in a few updates here and there and upload it on early access where the updates will then cease for like, half a year, until they release it as a "full" version that is basically in the same state it is in now.

The problem is mostly what DH did with them. Some animations are wonky and the enemies kinda jump in a glitchy way, and the lighting is awful with way too neon colors. It looks like one of your first experiments in blender and you just found colored lights.

For something that's most likely assembled from asset packs; it look decent, coherent, run smooth, and is a mixed genre that I haven't seen before. Its peaked my interest.
That corrupted treant looks like a monster from Little Nemo: Dream Master . . . although that's obviously not an asset flip of that game, because it was a 2D platformer on the NES.
I did not know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't this. Even if this turns out to be an asset flip, I think it's a step in the right direction for them. It's certainly a step up in stability, and as you mentioned it's cohesive. Seems like it could benefit from some music sometime down the line. I can imagine this turning out pretty alright with some polish. Not to mention it's an online game and not dropping people every few seconds. If they stick to this, good on them.
Imagine this with a LOT more spells, including rare/powerful ones, as well as equipment, and more crafting, with a focus on heavily customizable and actually useful player houses. Maybe add a system where you could loot a few items/spells from defeated players and you'd have a really fun multiplayer game. It'd be a lot of time and effort from this developer but completely do-able.
I hope they don't abandon it and leave it shitty like the others. Maybe if they continue improving this through early access it may be something they can actually be somewhat proud of.

Admittedly the text could be better, it's kinda small. It looks like it actually functions pretty decently, and you can pick up and use items without an issue. In case you were wondering, it's a semi asset flip. The monsters are from an asset pack but as far as I know none of the other stuff is.
How did we come from this to the dev suing 100 steam users? He finally made a game that was playable and even if the assets were bought it doesn't look that bad (compare to Slaughtering Grounds). And instead of drawing conclusions and taking more time to develop his games he shot himself in the foot.
He brought it up on his blog - this game failed to make as much money as several bad games, which were quick to produce, so he concluded their was no point in making good games.
I find kinda sad that the villain tried turn into a good guy but there just wasn't any money in it so he decided to just go all in. Start suing people and making a billion shit games.
It makes me happy that you are being so positive towards them, it shows you are a good person.
I think Digihom becoming at least decent developers is the best way this story can end. An enemy reformed is better than an enemy slain.

I guess this and Deadly Profits shows Digital Homicide's strength was in first person dungeon crawler RPGs. ...Shame they spent their time, effort, and money on things they WEREN'T good at(FPS, platformers, Katamari Damacy clones, censoring complaints, arguing with Jim, defending their arguments, suing Jim, winning, staying in business...)
There isn't really anything to set this apart from other games, but at least it seems playable for the most part :P

It's like, it's like "We Need to Talk About Kevin" book/movie. It's about a husband and a wife (Jim) their daughter and son, Kevin (DH). Kevin turns out to be a psychopath that kills his dad and sister and some other kids. At the end Mom and Kevin hug in a prison visit and Kevin shows a little touch of emotion by the hug. This is the hug in the Jim-DH saga. The one moment where they forget the past and connect as people, Mom - Son and in this case, Dev - Reviewer. If anyone got this simile, cool.
Still looks boring as sin to play... the enemies are slow and combat looks pathetically dull. This may be OK by DH standards, but that doesn't make it good in any way, shape, or form.
It's still in early access, its got potential.

When used right premade assets in video games are a good thing. They provide a means for developers without heavy rendering/ modeling skill or experience to realize an artistic vision that otherwise they would not have the means to attain. Can they be abused? I think we can all say that they most certainly can but this isn't one of those cases. This is a developer who had a style in mind and used the tools available to build it better then it would have looked otherwise. Honestly there is no shame in using resources to improve a project. Honestly I think this is a fantastic start for DigiHom and a game I seriously will consider purchasing to support this change of heart. It is very rare to see developer do a full 180 and actually deserve a second chance to shine. I hope that this is one of those rarities. Great job Digital Homicide. I look forward to seeing how this game grows over the coming months.

I sincerely hope that they continue to try hard, and have good hearted communication with Jim. I do believe whole heartedly that if he can tell they are trying, he will be less likely to turn their efforts into jokes, and offer them valuable criticism. Their games may never be the best, but at least they can stop making the worst.

After a few minutes of searching on the Unity Asset Store, the only things I can find that they POTENTIALLY used are an environment pack called "Fantasy Environment" by BrainBox, and a creature pack called "Forest Creatures Pack" by Shop3DSA. I couldn't find a complete script pack or anything so I think Digital Homicide did code this one.

Well like Jim has said literally 100000000000 times, there is absolutely zero problem with using assets as long as there is artistic cohesion.
At the end I was genuinely expecting Jim to turn around and be like "nah, just fucking with you all, this isn't a digital homicide game at all!"
So, let's not... exaggerate, alright? It looks playable, and that's about the only thing it got going for it.
It's the best thing DH has produced so far, no doubt, but for crying out loud, it's not okay! It's not! Okay!
The whole thing look repulsive. It does! It's aesthetically horrendous, and it's not going to change because DH, judging by their assets-buying history, can't really do 3D models of their own, nor can they really make significant changes to the ones they've bough. "Nice artstyle" my ass, Jim, "everything is green and blue, but mostly green and sometimes red-ish" is _not_ a "nice artstyle".

Gameplay? Right now it's not much. It's, from what I can tell, basically "Mash that LMB", and that's it. You would expect slightly more than that in a game about mages, but it's the early access, so I guess I can't really justify that as a legitimate argumen. They could add more. Probably won't. And that's what bothers me the most - let's face it, Jim, after you praised their game they might as well try to release it as soon as possible - it's good enough, right? That's just the kind of people they are.

Sort of like how you praise the hell out of a student who usually gets F's in class for getting a C- on a paper. Honestly I wouldn't play this game. It seems completely unpolished and seems more like a proof of concept, at best. I honestly don't trust DH to finish this game to completion and to be actually worthy of being purchased. They'll probably throw in a few updates here and there and upload it on early access where the updates will then cease for like, half a year, until they release it as a "full" version that is basically in the same state it is in now.

+Nick Chegodaev I don't mind the assets, I think they're really charming, and the colorful style is fine (also, one to speak Mr. red/black pony OC with yellow sclera and iris the brightest shade of red?). The problem is mostly what DH did with them. Some animations are wonky and the enemies kinda jump in a glitchy way, and the lighting is awful with way too neon colors. It looks like one of your first experiments in blender and you just found colored lights.

If Digital Homicide actually come through with a half decent or at least passable game that would be absolutely beautiful to he honest. Would be a perfect example of the fact that with some time and a bit of effort even a previously terrible dev can do good.
If you're reading this DH, do it. Take your time with this one, learn what needs to be learned, what works and what doesn't. I don't think this game will be your breakthrough but the foundation is there, build on it. Use it as a learning experience and come back with an even better game with original assets. Prove you don't need cynical asset flips to develop your games!

That corrupted treant looks like a monster from Little Nemo: Dream Master . . . although that's obviously not an asset flip of that game, because it was a 2D platformer on the NES.
I did not know what to expect, but it certainly wasn't this. Even if this turns out to be an asset flip, I think it's a step in the right direction for them. It's certainly a step up in stability, and as you mentioned it's cohesive. Seems like it could benefit from some music sometime down the line. I can imagine this turning out pretty alright with some polish. Not to mention it's an online game and not dropping people every few seconds. If they stick to this, good on them.
Imagine this with a LOT more spells, including rare/powerful ones, as well as equipment, and more crafting, with a focus on heavily customizable and actually useful player houses. Maybe add a system where you could loot a few items/spells from defeated players and you'd have a really fun multiplayer game. It'd be a lot of time and effort from this developer but completely do-able.

The assets are all store bought, but it looks like they made their own levels rather than using demo maps. It doesn't look at all bad. That's a big improvement on it's own.

I have to be honest. When i saw your title and i was really, really skeptical. But your'e right. this actually looks kinda ok. the art actually looks cohesive and kinda nice. Admittedly the text could be better, it's kinda small. It looks like it actually functions pretty decently, and you can pick up and use items without an issue. They also didn't auto ban 'jim sterling' out of petulance.
