This was Grand Prize. A TRUE entertainer, in that five minute span, she sings, she dances, she wins over the audience (and us too!), she displays comedic skills and perfect timing, and does all this OOZING class and showmanship. Nothing vulgar about this lady. I don’t know if it’s all her or partly due to the era, but I rue the day we lost this type of entertainment. I always wanted to see Latifah play Pearl in a biopic but it has never happened. Anyway, thank you for posting.
If they should ever make a movie biography, Queen Latifa would be the part for her to play Pearl Bailey, it’s so eerie to see her n the likeness n look alike and Queen Latifa can sing, imo❤️
Pearl was so original. That’s her husband, Louis Bellson on drums. Pearl would eventually take over the lead, Dolly Levi in the original long-running Broadway production of Hello Dolly in November 1967 until December 1969.
Tap dancing is hard... But in stiletto heels.. I've never seen that. I can't even see ankle straps across the shoes. Pearl Bailey was a force of nature that many performers could do well to emulate. XoXo 😘❤
Brilliant! I've never seen Pearl dance before! This is what a star can do with a few simple steps - bring the house down! Pearl just gave me a smile on my face that's going to be there for hours!
In 1967, Pearl starred in "Hello Dolly!". I think may have been the first all-black cast on Broadway, Wonder if this performance had an effect on the producers.
Just think how Carol Channing sang on Broadway with her horrible voice . But hid the fact she was a so called Black person until she revealed the fact in her autobiography. 🤫🤫🤫🤫🧐🧐😂😂😂🤣🤣
Love how expressive she is." It's not always about having the Greatest voice... it's how you use it. She's a master... she definetly knows how to use it! Thank you for sharing! 💖
WOW! I may be using an iPhone and watching videos on TH-cam and using technology that was unheard of in the 60s. But nothing in this world can compare to the talent of Pearl Bailey. She’s untouchable and irreplaceable. 🥰 FOREVER !!
Love her. Great talent. Brings a smile to your face. I saw her in Hello Dolly in 1975 with Billy Daniels, another great singer. Her brother, Bill Bailey, who was a great dancer, created the moon walk (check out the old movie Cabin In The Sky).
As a young person I really really enjoy Ms Pearl Bailey performances. I'm sure back in the day many many other people feels the same. Such a legend 👏 🙌 ❤️
Back when this first air, my family sat and watched this for the first time and enjoyed every minute of it. It is so good to see it again after all these years. Pearl Bailey was one heck of an entertainer.
What beautiful videos, thanks to the Ed Sullivan show and to all those who have kept these videos for so many years, it is admirable because today many remember and others of us know great artists of the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Thank you and hopefully you can share Latino artists who were on the Ed Sullivan show.
I don't have the link, but on TH-cam is a clip of her singing Bill Bailey and performing with her brother. They looked as though they were having lots of fun. I think it was also from the Ed Sullivan show.
I like to put it this way. Pearl Bailey was the best singer at doing patter on the beat. She would sing, then patter, then land on the beat to sing again. It is VERY hard to do.

Well, this made me smile! 👍😃

That is her husband on the drums. Louie Bellson. I always loved her!
Saw her in Hello Dolly on Broadway. She came out after the show and chatted with the audience. A great lady and performer.

I didn’t know that. Wow thanks for sharing. I met her once in 1985
I thought that was him!

I CAN NOT STOP SMILING. What a treasure she was.
She was instrumental in assisting Tony Bennett's career. The drummer Louis Bellson was her husband.
I love her classy black sheath dress and heels. Her being able to move in it so gracefully is a bonus.
I was just thinking that very same thing right when I read your comment! 💗
wow Pearl Bailey tap dancing and doing the charleston. and i think she even tapped DURING the charleston.
Loved Pearl Bailey! She was a true American classic
She was a good entertainer.
Miss Pearlie Mae should have been the movie’s Hello Dolly!

I miss this type of entertainment.
She's a very beautiful woman!
I think this is the best rendition of "Hello Dolly" I've ever heard or seen.
An entertainer like no other--a true original. Supremely talented, she oozed confidence and charisma. Great singer and dancer too!

I am feeling this dress Pearl is rocking.

I thought the same thing! Two beautiful women and Queen Latifah would be great to play Pearl Bailey.
Magnificent.

Amazing
love her
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
😅❤😍
👍👏👏👏
How does she keep landing perfectly in those ultra-thin stiletto heels?
Back in those days, entertainers had to have talent.
With her husband! Very progressive of Ed.
She looks like Queen Latifah
Pearl didn't have the best voice, but she had personality and presence.
The perfect way to sum her voice, the personality and presence makes up for what she lacks in voice.
I beg to differ, but I understand it's a matter of preference and opinion.
@@too2great8 She was a natural. Her voice is actually so good it just seems like part of the whole great package.
I like to put it this way. Pearl Bailey was the best singer at doing patter on the beat. She would sing, then patter, then land on the beat to sing again.
It is VERY hard to do.
Carol Channing had a horrible voice but she sang on Broadway.
Her voice was annoying!
Oh give me Miss Streisand any day what an awful row tone deaf
A matter of taste/opinion--many find Striesand's singing over rated
huh? Pearl Bailey was a universally beloved performer ... Babs, not so much
Pearl Zaddy husband Louis used to beat more than just the drums. 😂😂😂
