Hmmm....and how many now successful A list actors were told by someone "in the know" they wouldn't get anywhere and should give up? Not all, obviously, but I have read of quite a few. I think you know you are an actor when you trust yourself above all. I think you are an actor when you don't need anyone else to tell you whether you are one or not. BTW, there are teachers out there who are bitter they didn't make it, and will try to bring you down to their level too. Even some acting teachers at "reputable institutions" will stoop to that level.

If I may be so bold as to add to your reply.
I believe you are an actor when you have gone to countless auditions without success, read plays, studied independently and with others, and your enthusiasm has not waned.
You are an actor when, after all the rejection, disappointment and criticism, you are offered one line in a play, soap or film and you pour all your love, openness and creativity in it.
Then I think you’ll know you have approached to becoming one.

Good thing that man was so kind, it helped me not want to clear my throat for him til the video was done.

I just took a Meisner class here in Philly it was very intense and I Iearned a lot! However I struggled quite a bit with putting together meaningful activities and circumstances. I have just finished reading Esper's book "The Actor's Art & Craft" and I found it a bit more helpful towards the activities. In my class the one thing I didn't like is that when we were in our space before actor B would walk in the room, Actor A had to utilize the space as his/her own it could not be another location.

Well, he could conveniently add there are something like 100,000+ actors in SAG alone! As one of my former coaches said in class, "It's a crapshoot." I'm of the opinion that if one is gonna succeed it's out of one's control because it was MEANT to happen and not because one TRIED to make it happen.
