azreen isaac I mean, comparing should be fine. There will be differences. There are limitations sometimes that occur for live action, or sometimes they might want to do things a little different. It’s fine to compare. It’s even fine to critique constructively.
There are three versions lol Of course people are gonna do some comparison. So long as what they compare is legitimate, shouldn’t it be fine? I saw in the comments of the anime that they liked the scene where Lang Zan failed to stop Wei Wuxian and get him to return with him more than the live action because it “shows more emotion”.
I feel this is a legitimate opinion. There are bound to be things that look cooler in the anime, or things that work better in the live action.
It should be, don’t criticize without good reason. Critique constructively.

I think this dramas had the most perfect cast of all dramas I've seen. Not even one person could be replaced. And the acting was amazing. I love the anime but unlike many other live actions, The Untamed really touched our hearts like no other

WWX, LWJ, XXC, XY, JGY, LXC, JC were all spot-on and perfect.

I thought live action will be awkward as always, but the untamed is definitely the best is the best.. so perfect lanzhan character is difficult since he playing with less expression and talkless but lanzhan convey it perfectly through his facial only without talking much

more like some of their characters are similar, the director even said back then she rejected wang yibo as lan wangji when she looked at the photo audition, but yibo didn't give up, he entered the second audition, when he walks in, the director said "he's lanzhan, he's the one" 😄😄😄

The casting director actually rejected Wang YiBo twice before Wang YiBo came and meet her in person. Wang YiBo was very determined and persistent in getting the role, because despite being rejected twice, and having a very packed schedule, he squeezed time to come in person. I wonder why. The production company was not that well known at time..and it was also a well known BL/yaoi novel adaptation. Yes, they revised it but it's still a BL. And nobody knew for sure whether it will pass censorship or not...Yet, YiBo risked it all, to be casted in the series. He already has a solid fan base at that time, and I heard quiet a number of his fans were outraged with his decision to be in The Untamed. But..As the casting director said, she didn't believe that a real person could ever represent Lan WangJi...Until WYB came. The rest...is history.

He has a lot of jobs and gigs already...he has a lot of fan girls who worship him to the point of insanity...why risk it all to be in a BL drama series that nobody even knew whether it could be aired or not due to censorship..somehow...something really feels fishy. WYB really wanted the role, and did everything he could to get it. It doesn't make sense...at least not until we knew about Xiao Zhan...then...maybe..just maybe.. there's a story behind everything. I 100% agree with you.. I read the novel, but i just can imagine lan zhan and wwx in the drama.. While read it you know.. Some part.. For me lan zhan is WY and wwx is xz.. They are the dangerous drugs

I prefer the donghua but the live is definitely the best one I've seen. Before Untamed, anime/manga/novel live-action series adaptations were equal to me as just bad.

@@actuallyvidding guardian is good if you haven't read the novel. Because I read the novel first, I just considered it as a different story. I can't accept that it's the live adaptation but I love the actors and their interactions, they are really good actors.

Xiao Zhan’s handsomeness is undeniable
Of course the live action has better micro-expressions from character due to them being portrayed by actual casting of real life people, and they're more details in scenes due to not being limited by time limit. The anime has very limited time and must finished those scenes with those limits. But personally, I still feel the anime was superior, and it engaged my emotions a LOT more. Plus the animation quality is superb and the OST are incredible.
When I first seeing it on tumblr, I had *no* *idea* it was BL when I started. The fact that even despite the heavy censorship I can easily feels Lan Wangji's unconditional love to Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian's still growing love, is honestly a huge credit to the animators and director. Not to mention the characterizations and the uniqueness of Wei Wuxian as the unusual main character and Lan Wangji as the perfect opposite attract whose love is unconditional and care about well-being of others. It may even be my favorite shows of all time even including american movies, asian dramas, and anime tbh.
Anyway, thanks for the video! This story is a masterpiece in every form it takes, and I hope it only continues to gain the recognition and love it deserves.
Naturally, the live-action has the real actors advantage. However, the donghua limits in other ways. The story is experiences from Wei Wuxian's point of view and that severely undermines other characters. Sure, you can say it's being like the novel in that regard but just because that format worked in writing form, doesn't mean it would work with donghua.
Lan Zhan and WWX relationship feels very lacking in the donghua as a result. The drama takes it's time to flesh out the characters and relationships.
The donghua just glosses over all collectively. Wei Wuxian is basically a Mary Sue asshole at this point of donghua. Lan Zhan just cares about this douche bag for reasons. It's unconvincing.
And it's hilarious that we're expected to feel sad for characters like Wen Qing or Yanli when both were undeveloped ciphers.
yeappp as someone that read the novel first, i always lovedddd jiang yanli but i was only able to see her unconditional love for WWX expressed in the drama. Haizzz no choice with the limited time the donghua has i wouldnt be surprised. Its ok at least we have novel drama anime and audio drama. We are blesseddd :D
Just finished the last episode of season 3.....and .....it was perfect....tbh as a fujoshi I wished it had yaoi scenes 👀but just as you said despite the heavy censorship you do feel their love ❤️oh god except for the last episode every single episode of the anime broke my heart....the last episode gave me peace .....will miss them 😭😭

Usually when someone takes a anime and makes into a live movie or series it sucks and changes completely but they did a amazing job on this one. Its alot like the anime,and the characters are pretty similar.

Why is it that I cry when it comes to Chinese anime and historical dramas?.... They are so ... Magical and sweet.. I'd love to experience such a pure and soft type of joy, but sadly life hasn't shown this to me yet...🖤

You know why i loved untamed soo much? Because the chemistry between the cast was soo lovely. Especially yibo n xiao zhan.. both of them is actually a very shy person in the real life, but every time they were together they become a very talkative one (and also very childish in a cute way). I don't even know why they can become so close.. because as far as i remember they actual image was actually very different from each other, xiao zhan is the warm one and yibo is the cold one.
I prefer the drama because it takes it's time to flesh out the characters and relationships and sets up the themes.
In the drama, Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan form a believable and well-written bond before he dies.
In the donghua, they're always rude and cold toward each other most of the time and for some reason, Lan Zhan cares about that guy.
While the BL aspect was removed from both version, it certainly shines through a lot in the drama. There are many tender and personal moments between Wei Wuxian and Lan WangJi. It's so beautifully done.
In the donghua, they're just meh.
The drama gives importance to everyone and fleshes out everything. Characters like Wen Qing and Yanli are fleshed out and beautifully written. We care about them and we have reason to feel sad about their fates.
The donghua makes it entirely about Wei Wuxian and neglects other characters; as a result, most characters feel underwritten and underdeveloped. We never experience anything through Lan WangJi. He's pretty flat as a character.
Wen Qing and Yanli are absolute ciphers and we have no reason to hate for them or feel sad about them.
I could go one more. The drama has handles the emotions and the story and the characters far better than the donghua.
I enjoy the donghua but it's mostly for the flashy battle scenes not the characters or the story.
Honestly...i can't agree more! The donghua had an amazing animation and all those action scenes were OMG love it. I had a great experience watching, but i don't think I'll go back to rewatch it again..unlike the untamed. ( which i kinda already watched 3 times..minus few scenes from wen clan) but ya the realtionship that the live action established was the major thing that i felt missing from the dongua. I wished it also gave a back story to other side characters but they only had few episodes while the live action had 50 n 2 spin off movies..so its understandable
The donghua isn’t finished, you guys. It releases one season every time with yearlong gaps.

Wen Qing and Jiang Yanli doesn't have as much of an important role in the original story as they have in the drama, especially Wen Qing.
Also, from what I heard they gave more of an important role to Wen Qing and added the aspect of Jiang Cheng liking Wen Qing because they wanted to add some aspect of b×g love in the drama to attract the general audience of China.
So as much as I do like some aspects of drama more I don't really think I have any right to complain that why did the makers of donghua decided to stick to the original story.
@@thelastcoloroftherainbow3944 Yeah, but the novel is pretty much like Wei Wuxian's journal as it's told from his point of view almost entirely. Many things happen out of his view and he has vague about them. We don't need him to give us reasons on why he feels love toward his sister, nor do we need characterization or development for her.
But the transition from writing to visual adaptation has got to be done carefully. It's no longer just about Wei Wuxian. It's a large story with a large cast and suddenly everyone is more important. The donghua can't just skim over things the way the novel did and expect the audience to buy it all. For someone who just wants a mere direct-page-to-screen (or not really, considering the donghua removed the BL aspect and the pacing is off) adaptation and has already experienced the novel, the donghua *might* be satisfactory but for most, it won't be.
Any visual adaptation of this work is obliged to expand on things.

I have always expected the least from live adapted dramas since lots of them either
-Don't follow the original plot/changes the plot a lot
-inaccurate actor to character portrayal
But the untamed really shocked me. The characters are on point, esp WWX and LWJ. The plot was sometimes draggy but it intrigues you to continue watching. This vid reminded me of how both the drama and the donghua are both masterpieces

I love how the actors really did a great job on matching each of their characters. They really gave life to the characters which made the drama really beautiful. It's very rare to see a live adaptation of an animation/novel to be so real so The Untamed really catches my heart.

Hey OP I’m sorry if this was pointed out alr, but the line “不愿一无所有” should be translated as “I am not left with nothing” or “I do not wish to be left with nothing”, which is the opposite of your translation “I am left with nothing”. The line is a double negative, “不愿” means “don’t want” or “don’t wish”, while 一无所有” means “having nothing”.
I really enjoyed your video and great job for the tremendous effort you put in! I just hope you correct this mistake as it actually means the opposite of what it is supposed to mean, which can confuse non-Chinese speakers.

this added 44 years back to my life 😭 the donghua is breathtaking and you can see they really tried their best with CQL to embody the story and the emotions. I got into this fandom through the donghua and before the untamed I had a very poor opinion of live actions but cql managed to change my entire outlook.

I absolutely loved the live action drama. For me while it seemed long, it really captured everything perfectly. Some parts in the donghua was just a flash. I enjoy it but I like the live drama more. One thing that surprises me is the lyrics to wangxian for the donghua. These are really beautiful lyrics and captures Lan Zhan’s feelings perfectly, which isn’t totally shown in the donghua.
I think the donghua and live action and radio play all turned out so very well because the cast and crew truly care for the characters they were playing and gave their very best to create a work of art.

first of all, its hard for me to accept drama actor after i knw the anime character diffrent than the real cast but damn..this is the first time i like so much of both mc in drama..especially the chemastry btween this love bird..shout out to director who pick the right cast..💜💜💜💜🥰🥰😘😘
I watched the anime first and was impressed by the animation and the music (ESPECIALLY the music!).
I my absolute FAVORITE part about the MDZS franchise is that you can watch/read it and NEVER be bored.
Normally, I hate when some series change things from the light novel to the manga to the anime to the live action, but MDZS was the first series I have seen to effortlessly make ALL mediums this amazing story is on great.
BOTH ARE GREAT
This just proves how both are masterpieces.

I love how the anime pictured WWZ as a extremely strong main character, he is very perfect in so much ways. The resurrection reason part kinda break my heart. I hope the anime make WWZ make quite effort for Mo Xuanyue's grudges
While the Live Action pictured the character as more.... human. Even the revenge at Wen Clan part was distributed fairly. Make both Xuanyue and little Nie responsible for WWZ resurrection was great idea
I can't choose which one is the best. I just love all versions of the story
I actually prefer the drama version for the reasons you listed. Wei Wuxian had more humanity, humour and complexity in the drama.

I saw many hit dramas made remake after 15 or 20 years later. I'm here wonder if they will remake The Untamed? But who can replace Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo? They are like characters who came out from novel.
