Dude I was thinking the same thing. I flew on it but a few months back. And both my father in-law and brother in-law worked with that plane many years back. It was one of the most beautiful b17s I have ever had the privilege to see
I started with their late eighties titles: f15 strike eagle, redstorm rising, f19 stealth fighter. Its incredible to have them back after thirty years.
Also, speaking of WW2 game classics, Hidden&Dangerous 1 and 2, needs a remaster with 2022 graphics and improved game mechanics. Both games were based on SAS operations during that period, and provided an amazing immensity level in all aspects.

Excellent video! I remember game manuals. I remember playing the mighty 8th as a young man. That and watching Memphis Belle on vcr every night. Part of what inspired me to join the Army. Now in my early 40s I can’t wait to jump back in and pay homage to the greatest generation.
Great to see MicroProse back. I still have many of their old games in my bookcase. Pacific Air War, F14 Fleet defender and also, of course, B-17 the Mighty 8th! I used to play these games to death when I was a teen. I hope I can still find that kind of time and crawl back into the cockpit of a B-17.
I hope the devs use both versions of the B-24, to show the war time progression from the D to the G, H and J models. I can’t wait to see the final product.

Was fortunate to have a walk through of the B17 "Sentimental Journey" at an airshow. Seeing the tight quarters in this impressive machine and what was undoubtedly terrifying at times for these brave airmen was as incredible as it was unfathomable. Looking forward to these.
2022 is the GREATEST YEAR EVER! Who would of thought that the day would come when FOUR separate B-17 games have been announced in the same YEAR, and by the SAME PUBLISHER!
I've been playing Carrier Command 2 for a while now and I simply love it. I'm happy to see MicroProse after all these years. I've always been a huge fan of their simulation based games. I'm also a huge World War 2 (self-described) historian. So, I'll be glad to see what sorts of historical accuracies are in the game. I often frequent a local museum which has a B17 inside and once came with a pretty amazing story. I was reading the placard, describing what sorts of mission this particular B17 plane was on. In one instance, it described a man who was the tail-gunner and fought off numerous German's as they bombed factories and bomb making facilities. The rear gunner had been shot on the route back. The tour guide, then waved over towards an very old gentleman, who was very short and wore old WW2 clothes, coat, hat and slacks. He talked further about the incident that took place and that he was that rear gunner. I was never more enamored with a person, than I was in the moment.
What an exciting time to see all of the new B-17 games. I will be picking up most of them ,as I have the originals still. I even paid for a real flight in one at Oshkosh in 2019. Valiant Effort would be awesome too being Canadian.

Even the mention of the name Microprose caught my eye and got me excited. The games produced by this company provided me with many, many hours of enjoyment. I am looking forward to playing their new product.
I have fond memories of the 1982 Intellivision B-17 Bomber game. While it was single player both controllers were always active. Twelve year old me spent many late night hours with friends flying missions over Europe. One of us would navigate, pilot, and bomb, the other would man the 4 gun turrets. Of course there was only 1 screen, so we'd have to be careful not to steal control of the plane away from each other at those critical moments.
I was surprised to hear that MP is still around. So many good game manufacturers went out of business. SSI and westwood did some good stuff. I still have the manual to the first BP B17 game. It had some interesting stories in it. And some of the photos of heavily damaged bombers that actually made it home.
It would be great if the whole planning stage could be done co op. Using different aircraft and each player having a separate formation attacking one target.
do you think that in the mighty eighth and bloody 100 there will be dynamic missions? and also do you think they will have a larger multiplayer, as in one bomber has 10 guys and then another bomber in the formation has another ten guys
what do you mean dynamic missions? I don't think either will have 100 players, 10 crews. Bloody 100th has no mention of online as of now. VR has mention of online coop where 10 players survive in one B17. I imagine there will be a PvP with AI where I survive in a B17 while you are probably in a 262 hunting me down. All of this is speculation right now. No concrete info yet.
Oh...if I'm not mistaken....at 16:37 the pin-up in the lower left corner was inspired by non other than Betty White! I may be wrong...but I think my memory isn't deceiving me.
Four B-17 games!? They're really coming back with a bang, aren't they!? I hope the Mighty 8th Redux will be available to people who own the original, though I would have no problem supporting them by buying it again if I have to. A cool feature for the Bloody 100th would be a character pool system much like XCOM 2, so that you could make endless amounts of possible crew members to get assigned to your 17 in the event that one of your originals dies.

The gameplay on the the Mighty Eighth is fine. It's the damn interface that bites. I wonder if there is any chance for a European Air War remaster. That game may have been Micropose's crowning achievement.
wow .. i didn't know micropose was still in business. I played a game of theirs back in the 80's called F-19 Stealth Fighter. It was an awesome game and I have no idea how they packed so much content on a 512K floppy disk!

However, I am interested in locating the manual for the 1992 release: “B-17 Flying Fortress: World War II Bombers in Action”, but could not locate it. I don't think it is copyright protected any longer, but the web does not seem to have it. Any thoughts? FOUND IT.
I'm super stoked to see these coming, but I still can't understand the difference between each game...which one will be closest to a flight sim, say, DCS, or the Accu Sim B-17 for FSX?
We don’t know, there isn’t any info I could find that clarified on this unfortunately . It’s one of my questions as well in my Google Docs. I suspect that Bloody 100th and Mighty Eighth VR will both have the cockpit sophistication of DCS/AccuSim and the world will have the weather sophistication that is more comparable to MSFS than DCS. I think it’s important to capture the dynamism of these elements (plane and world) as players will be spending a long time in both these areas.
Bummed we won't see the VR version for another year. Also hope they allow for high detail settings for those of us with high-end PCVR rigs, and don't force us to use Quest-level dumbed down graphics. Looking forward to playing this though.
The 100th reputation was severely damaged after a "supposed" incident of a damaged B17 who lowered its main gear while being attacked by enemy fighters, an agreed signal that meant "I surrender." As the Luftwaffe fighters closed in to escort the B17 to land, the B17 suddenly opened fire. it was quickly shot down but all Luftwaffe pilots became aware of the incident and gave no quarter to any 100th Group B17's, in fact they supposedly targeted the 100th in any formation.
Wow this is absolutely awesome. I just wish I had a decent computer to play them on. I have the "Mighty Eighth" from years ago but haven't been able to play it in years.

After 4 years since the announcement, VR has little to show and virtually no communication from the devs. I hope they engage with the community because many are losing hope.
Well this will be a Day 1 purchase. I can only hope that the engine these guys are developing go on to give life to the Korean War, the Vietnam era, post Vietnam, Cold War and Modern Era. I love MSFS 2020, but there is a serious lack of combat sims outside of DCS.
I'd love to see the DH Mosquito in the game- that might end up being from modders rather than MP themselves. Operation Jericho and flying down the streets of Amiens would be a challenge!
I bought the game B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th of 2000. It did not truly deliver on all its hype, which became typical of Microprose in the 90s and early 2000s. Such as the disastrous "1944 Across the Rhine" which was hyped to be a first-person tactical combat game of the ETO where the fanbase was led to believe players would have Commanders cupola control of Panzers and US tanks. It became a ridiculous attempt to mix an operational and tactical wargame. B-17 of 2000 suffered from many bugs which were never really fixed. Inside the aircraft you had crew members running around like they had dementia, often failing to do their jobs. There were flyable fighters and we were led to believe the game would have multiplayer/online play. This led to the fanbase of players creating many "online squadrons" in anticipation of this. Unfortunately, multiplayer was never included in the game. Although the B-17s had considerable detail and seemed to have somewhat realistic damage and flight models, the fighter planes were simplistic to the point of arcade modeling.
I will definitely buy this when it comes out but it would be great to see a spin-off game about British Lancaster raids. [EDIT] Ooh!!! I didn't play the video to the end and Lancaster bombers are in!!!
Not to be heretical, but my favorite bomber game came out in '91 from LucasArts (still LucasFilm Games at this point), Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe - playing as waist, tail, ball, turret and nose gunners on a B-17. I'm sure these MP games will be a tad more realistic.
The damage modeling in the Mighty 8th was something special. Making it home in tatters was so satisfying

Two of my grand uncles were B-17 pilots, flying over 100 combined missions over Germany in WWII. Both survived. What a fortress.

I got my first computer in 1982, a Commodore 64. MicroProse was a huge part of my teenage gaming years in the 80s.
