I’ve been enjoying the Acotar deep dives but I really think you guys SHINE discussing the unfinished series. I love the theories and the excitement when discussing fourth wing, when the moon hatched and everflame stuff. I love pulling out the little details and theorizing what they mean. Thank you keep up the good work!
@@emilyjewett2660 i think it's because there's so much more content in the acotar series. a trilogy, a christmas special essentially, and then a new POV in silver flames. plus all the tie-ins with TOG and CC. All of that gives so much more to connect existing information with than something like fourth wing, or other series that only have one or two books published so far, that is relying solely on itself to give clues and hints.
I kind of needed another bonus chapter, miss the empyrean series and missed your deep dives about the empyrean!!! Y'all thrive when talking about this series, I love it💗🙌🏼
I’d wager to say we actually DO see a snippet of Xadens second signet at work on the wall when he and Violet are waiting for tairn. There’s a line where he says “I drop my shields and her emotions flood down the bond, determination, fear…” and the next line is just “she’s going to bolt.” Now obviously it’s probably common to know she’d bolt to save Mira BUT I think it’s a little nugget for those that have read IF and know what to look for. Much like how RY is convinced we all know Violet’s second power because of a “line in IF”
Yes! I thought the same exact thing. It’s not a blatant “I use my second signet to do this”-it’s more natural and in the text, which makes sense. And he also told Violet that he stopped reading her intentions on purpose, but sometimes she would just shove things down the bond; I’d argue this is a clear example of that happening.
Talking about Xaden's family there is something that cought my eye in the epilogue of chapter 41, Iron Flame. We know almost nothing about the Isla Kingdom, and suddenly we got this: "Having refused every proposal, Queen Maraya has named her distant cousin, Viscount Teccarus of Cordyn, as her heir. As the viscount is living in his fifth decade and has no direct heirs of his own, the decision has not been a popular one. " That's a lot of information: the queen's name, that she doesn't want to marry, that her choice of an heir has not been well received... What if Queen Maraya is Xaden's mum, and she is waiting for Xaden to be her heir when the right moment arrives? Whats the point in naming an heir in his fifties, with no heir of his own? Kings and queens usyally give a lot of thought about this kind of things.
I love the way Yarros is writing her Bonus Chapter. She provides only more detail to what we already know, as opposed to info dumping in a chapter that isn't even included in many of the book editions. I'm also looking at you, SJM! I truly love Xaden's POVs!
I appreciate this podcast so much because even without having read the actual chapter yet, I fully understood what you were talking about. I've read the other bonus chapters as well as iron flame, but I just wasn't in a position to purchase this edition of fourth wing and you've really done a great job of breaking it down for us while also not muddying the plot of it. Thank you!
I can’t believe they didn’t bring up the Violet truth sayer signet theory!! The line where Xaden is explaining lying is easy except for when it comes to Violet adds another example to the truth sayer signet I honestly believe that the purpose of this bonus chapter was that line and again hinting at a truth sayer/honesty signet from Violet
(IF SPOILERS) Isn’t Andarna still a baby at this point? How would her second signet manifest yet? I think her signet manifests when Andarna grows up and can finally breathe fire, and the only new hints we get at that point are how fast Violet is moving. Both onto Sawyers dragon and after her brother fixes the wardstone. She’s gotta be a distance wielder!
I think the Dain is slow mentions and that he is out of breath is because he was running a further distance than everyone else. It said in the chapter that he stepped through the sound barrier but it did not say he went back in the room with everyone else. I think he may have been involved in wards coming down. He could be a Venin spy. Xaden might not know because his shields are always up around Dain. My other thought is he could have been going through Xadens stuff and found that alloy dagger which may be why he starts trying to figure out what Xaden is up to and the wards going down are just happenstance. Just thoughts I had while reading!! 😅
I really hope one of the books or even Onyx Storm has a dual point of view! I would eat that up, but I also feel like like with the bonus chapters that she might be leading to up to a DUAL Point of View but I think I would also be scared for that
That was so obvious lol… he did the same on the war games, he didn’t need to take her , he wanted her… and was counting on them finishing their deed 😉on ahvine
I think Xaden is really hard character to read sometimes. He is morally grey and keeps a lot of his plans under lock and key. It seems like getting more of these bonus chapters solidifies things we’ve always suspected about his intentions towards Violet. He still has a lot of secrets which makes me question almost everything he does.
Venin flyers theory may check out…in Iron Flame there is an excerpt from a Flyer that explains the Venin began recruiting for Flyers that wanted more power. So there could be an alliance there. Maybe?
I like your theory that the wards falter when a venin mole (a la JFB) steals alloy from the outposts, but I guess my imagining of how those ward extenders work is a little different... Somehow it doesn't make sense to me that the alloy simply being present extends the wards, and that there must be a little quasi wardstone-type things in the outposts that the alloy daggers are 'plugged into' in some fashion. So the venin mole wouldn't need to actually take them offsite for the wards to falter, simply remove them from their proper place. I also love the theory that there could be venin moles within the flier drifts too and maybe those rider and flier moles are coordinating 😮
I think the venin mole could just syphon the power in the daggers. Because leadership would be suspicious of dagger disapearing in a speficic montagne range. However, if only the daggers are drained (assuming it doesn't alter their physical state), leader ship would think their is an issue either at with the people at the forge or with the alloy it self, shifting the blame elsewhere
i also think he only mentioned Bodhi and Liam as the closest thing he has to siblings because they are both actually family, Bodhi being his cousin and Liam being his foster brother.
but what if she is a distance wielder because they say they haven't had one in thousands of years and Andarna has waited thousands of years to hatch because she was waiting for someone like violet. Those are definitely my top three choices.
I think it’s Imogen… she might have been away on a secret trip for Xaden… but he said it was a hour away… not far at all, she could have come back or never even went… maybe she has a connection with the flyer group that attacked… that girl is suspicious as hell… she has pale green eyes, Kees dying her hair pink (mentioned to many times), weirdly running with violet in the mornings, and obviously… orange dragon…. Just a couple points
How I understand the alloy and stashes of daggers to work is that they have a stash of backup daggers in each outpost and there is a specific place where they need to be put/replaced because they loose their power but the stash needs to be near by so they have them on hand to replace. So someone came in and took the daggers out of their specific spot, then the fliers came in to raid the stash of unused daggers
I don't think Bodhi is actually his brother because we got a mention towards the end of last chapter in fourth wing from Xaden's pov that how Bodhi looks similar to his aunt or something along those lines so I think he knows who Bodhi's mother is
Ah, but is that Bodhi's biological mother in truth or was that what they were told and she is his adopted mom? Xaden's aunt is related to him through his dad, not his mom. So it would make sense that they would look similar enough to pull off a lie about parentage.
Re: Mira seeing a riot of wyvern across the border during an attack: my thinking was that venin attacked a village across the border and the fliers raided the outposts in desperation knowing that the alloy hilted daggers stored there are the only way to kill venin.
while I love a dunking dain moment, I kinda had a feeling the "he's slow" part is in relation to cath's bad breath maybe? also, is it possible that the venin spy in the post has drained the alloy and not stole it?
Keep going with that venin gryphon flier theory Nicole!! To counter Lexi's argument to it. What if the attack here is a recon mission for the venin's ultimate attack at basgiath. venin are testing the wards to learn more about how to invade Navarre. What if Everytime the ward falter in Navarre, venin are also coming in to be under cover and that's how they get to JFB
To me, the part about Dain being out of breath wasn’t as much about dissing Dain, but more about Rebecca hinting at us, « hey look, Dain is out of breath, suspicious isn’t it ? » I mean we’re looking for someone inside the outpost with Venin ties… *cough* Daddy Aetos keeps sending Venin assassins *cough*
Omggg I don't trust Dain yet, he still could be working as a Navarre spy... I have a bad feeling about him, especially since Varrish was his signet mentor
@@paolaf2612I doubt he’s a venin spy because in IF Zayden says he used his intinsic powers to see if Dain had truly joined the revolution or not. So from that I think it might be just general aitos having the influence from venin
And one of onyx storm books Violet is going to visit and Taryn tells her that there is a drift like 10 minutes on the other side of the border where Aiden was stationed and that he wasn’t going to leave her until she’s inside the keep the drift could’ve literally had just been sitting right outside the wards like they do waiting for a lonely dragon to pass by and they think they could take it down quickly then run or whatever it is they doand this is one of those times the drift was just there and they felt the ward folder and they’re like let’s go
I believe they mention that the wards faulter only in Cygnisen. That is not correct, the first time the wards are mentioned to have faulter is in Chakir which is a village close to Elsum border with Braevick. At least that is where that maps present Chakir. FFG is assuming that the wards are faultering because the alloy used to expand the wards is being removed from the outposts. This appears strange. I think there maybe other ways of making the wards faulter. One theory would be to drain the wards from their power, maybe using the alloy weapons or through other means.
While the truthsayer theory for Violet's second signet is also not my first guess. I could see how much foreshadowing there could be for that theory in Iron Flame. Think of all the times Xaden pushed Violet to "ask the right questions". There are ways of answering questions where she would get partial truths but not the whole truth. And knowing what questions to ask would get her the answers she needs. Now as annoying as that was coming from Xaden it could have inevitably trained her to use her second signet even better.
WHAT IF: the venin and the Cygnis fliers made a deal??! And do we believe the timing of the attack was coincidence? Maybe the undercover venin spy deactivated the wards and the fliers were coming to collect something (maybe even Violet?!)
Maybe intinsics occur when someone manifests a second signet. I don’t remember if there has been any examples of second signets except in Violet and Xaden’s case
In IF (p710 kindle version) Sloane says “But there’s an equal chance of it causing madness.” Jeremiah went mad when he manifested, so you could be correct that at least all familial bondings are all intinnsics. Could be why it was forbidden, but maybe the true reason has been lost in translation throughout the years
The chemistry was there, but I don’t think they would have acted on it without the forced proximity, especially since he was in his 3rd year. Maybe if they were in the same year and by year 3?
