    I'll never forget the night my friend showed me this tune, it introduced me to the whole footwork scene and made me a huge DJ Rashad fan. I Just heard the terrible news.. Can't believe it :(
    RIP

    That scene in the end where the boy with ankh salutes is cold as hell. This is, like, African-American culture manifests itself to the world once again. It gives me bumps every time I watch it

      And it is the fourth year I first saw it, still that scene beats everything

    This song is beautiful. When I first heard juke I was in awe of the sound as a new rythmic engine for music but always felt that it had to sacrifice its potential as an art because of it's need to move the dancefloor. This is a perfect combination of a dj tool and a headphone experience. Much like the icons of other styles (Goldie and Jungle, Larry Heard and House) I think Rashad and Spinn have the potential to make music that blurs the boundaries between the club and the soul. Thank you both.

    I can cleary see that (2) people are unhappy with their lives. While (108) people enjoy this footwork shit that Chicago is embracing among the word. Keep up the good work Spinn & Rashad and all the other Ghettotekz. You guys are really putting Chicago on the map for something positive!

    saying "everyone felt like juke couldn't go anywhere else" implies ignorance towards UK scene. it's not juke, it's where it went

  • @ncshuriken
    @ncshuriken 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Goin through a lotta old Rashad tings and I ain't really finding any bangers. Seems like before the Double Cup album, everything was just stoned experiments or he was just messing about with some new software. Nearly every single tune on Double Cup is fucking BIG though. WAY more "feel", WAY more "flavour".

    • @valentinolott6371
      @valentinolott6371 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      what the fuck is wrong with you man ?!

    • @ncshuriken
      @ncshuriken 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you prefer madness over feel and flavour then I have to ask you the same question. Even Teklife Vol.1 was pretty weak, apart from 'Well Well Well' & 'Kush aint Loud' which had "feel n flavour". 'Itz Not Rite', 'Transported' (90's techno) and the 2 identically named versions of 'Feelin' were good though. Double Cup was the Magnum Opus IMO, because nearly every track was fucking big. I think there was only 2 tracks I didn't like. Anyway RIP to one of my fave new artists... Don't know who can carry the torch now.

    • @juancarlosc7707
      @juancarlosc7707 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ncshuriken i dont agree. double cup is an evolution after all the influence he got from going around the world, uk sounds.. etc. but to say that before it was just "stoned experiments", "messing around..." what?? remember this music is meant for the footworkers, to move to, not to listen at home. footwork's "oldschool" tracks will always be BIG, raw, hard. teklife vol 1. weak??? oh shit...

    • @ncshuriken
      @ncshuriken 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juan Carlos C I said they SOUNDED like stoned experiments, I didn't say thats what they WERE, and many a hurtful riddim was born from stoned experiments (EG a lot of dub, and I dont mean dubstep). I prefer his newer sound because its got more "feel", more "flavour" IMO, and I dont listen to music just to dance or get loose, but to get taken on a fucking journey, drifting on some oldskool chords and pure sub bass. When I'm in a club or a blues then I'll be dancing, but elsewhere, I'm listening and feeling.
      Music that hurts the soul (if you know what I mean), is the best kind of music IMO because it goes deeper than just getting heads moving in a club. The tracks I mentioned are feely as fuck, and you could sit back with a zoot and just float away, but in a club I know the same shit would SMASH it. Thats what seperates a lot of his older tunes from his newer sound, they hit BOTH sweet spots, just like Dub, 90's Jungle, Garage etc. Its all a matter of opinion though, you like what you like and thats it. I still think Double Cup & the other older tracks I mentioned are where he's at his best.

    • @ncshuriken
      @ncshuriken 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      digitalundergroundPL Then I will definitely check that shit because I need more. I know "stoned experiments" or the way I put it sounded a bit like a diss, but look at Dub, one of the purest forms of music on the planet IMO (in terms of "feel"), and a LOT of that is stoned experiments, pure zone-out material.
      I just found that IMO, the majority (not all) of Rashads older stuff didn't seem to have that "feel" thats there in nearly all of his later tracks like: Itz Not Rite, Well Well Well, Pass That Shit, Feeling (both versions), Transported (just a deep 90's techno flavour), Kush Aint Loud, Im Too High, Its Whack (the part with the chords) etc.
      Even a lot of THOSE tracks sound like stoned experiments, but in a GOOD way, because no matter how wierd shit can get, if its still got "feel" & "depth", the tunes gonna work for me.
