As someone who loved Squadrons and was sad to see the direction it went, this is incredible.
Its a fantastic mod
What direction did it go?
@CBfrmcardiff hes referring to the perception that prior to release, Squadrons would be the successor to X-Wing/Tie-Fighter....but when it released it was more of an arcade shooter, rather than a Sim.
its not bad, not in the slightest, its just not X Wing.
so having the actual x wing series games in VR, makes those who felt burnt by Squadrons VR, happy to now be able tp play their beloved series in VR

@@VRified_Games lmao I've played squadrons, the rogue squadron trilogy, and xwing game 1 and squadrons is the most realistic space sim there is of the games what nostalgia goggles are yall on?

Trust me....its a very different beast, but both are totally amazing in there own way
Better either be ace as hell with keyboard controls or have the best HOTAS ever. This game almost literally uses every single key on a keyboard AND requires at least a joystick.
These games are simulators. Simulators of fictional craft, but simulators nonetheless, there is literally a key to target what the wingman you are pointing at is targeting. Not only can you balance you ships shields (if your ship has them), lasers and engines, but you can shunt power between your lasers and shields in an emergency, as well as setting your weapons fire to single, dual or all four (if you are in an XWING for instance). It is worth learning though, it's a shame they really don't make games like this any more.
@@SuperballsSupervidsOnYT True there a hundred commands but "only" 25-30 are essential. So yeah you still need a good HOTAS to play it in VR, without a keyboard.
Thankfully the XWA community made a wonderful joystick configurator to make any bâton de joie work easily.
Here's my setup if it can help some people (almost all those controls are essential)
Shift+P = pick up targeted object
Shift+R = release targeted object
Shift+D = docking targeted object
Alt 1 = target insight
O = Nearest Objective.
T = next targets.
R = nearest enemy target.
E = the enemy currently tracking you.
I = target attacking warehead
A = target the attacker of your target
; = cycle trough target’s components
F1 = target next friendly
F2 = target next neutral
F3 = target next ennemy
F4 = target previous ennemy.
Shift A= assign target to wingmen
W = switch weapons.
X = switch firing modes
C = countermeasures.
S = cycle shield settings
F8 = Adjust beam weapon
F9 = Adjust laser cannon
F10 = Adjust shields
F11 = Preset 1 (in General Options)
F12 = Preset 2
V = closing S-foils if you're in a craft that does that.
Space bar = hangar launch, hyperspace
M = map.
G = shifting to gun turret
Reduce the reticle size : CTRL + Left/Right

I have the XWAU and TFTC installed and running in VR. Xwings and later TF were the games I cut my teeth on in the early to mid-90s PC gaming. I also loved XWA. To have these remastered like this and Well playable in VR is too good to be true. I also have Squadrons and have not gotten too far in it. Would like to hear anyone who would compare Suadrons to the XWAU and TFTC.
What's your rig? I tried XWAU early last year (AMD Ryzen 7, 32GB Ram, Nvidia 2080, Oculus Rift2). The first mission was fine but VR performance dropped to unplayable during space battles. Was there an update that fixed this?
there have certainly been updates
my rig is nothing special and ran ot just fine.
gtx 970, i7 series intel cpu.
ancient bu all standards of messurement, but still ran these games with no issue

I was part of the testing group in the forums for awhile, glad it's come a long ways. what specs do you use though? found it VERY single thread limited...

@@VRified_Games huh, I was having majory stutter and dips to like. 10fps. on my 4790k & GTX 1080ti, 16GB ram at the time. perhaps i'll give it another shot ;)
I do believe the devs optimised it alot in the last year or so....running great on my patato lol
Are the whole games playable? Do you get sick at all?
all fully playable : -), no motion sickness, for me at least
does this work well with modern joysticks, throttles, rudder pedals, etc? i could never get rid of the jitter in the control axes in the TIE Fighter games running on modern hardware
personally i played with controller and keyboard and mouse, but others have said they had HOTAS working really well
I'm a fan of the original trilogy movies (and I think the final 3 are also great, not a fan of the 'first' trilogy). But I was never really into these flight sims. Not untill PSVR Squadrons that is.
So for someone like me, not in the know about X-Wing Alliance & Tie Fighter, what can expect from this in VR? What sort of game is it? Is it like Squadrons, where you get missions to fly around and fight, or is there more/less to it? I'm not really into games that keep dragging on.
You need the actual game to be able to play this? Or is it something stand-alone?
the space flight and combat are similar to Squadrons, its more tactical though

Honestly... Story and Mission structure wise Squadrons is the looser here. I've been watching the TIE Fighter reimagined mod recently and those mundane police missions are so much more immersive than the "You are the Hero/Villain and are destined to do great things (Though the Empire Campaign Ending is the most cockblocked ending I've ever seen. You fail to destroy that Republic Ship, cuz good guys can't loose, fail to kill that black guy, cuz good guys can't loose. and then leave pretending to have won.)
So it will work with these 2 entries specifically, but not "X-Wing" or "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter", correct? This series and it's naming conventions are very confusing haha.
For now at least....but i know the origonal x wing is being worked on too...not ready yet, so.....its only a matter of time before x wing vs tie fighter gets worked on too
But as of right now, only x wing alliance and tie fighter work in vr

@@VRified_Games I JUST got it working! However I'm experiencing a lot of "wobbly" visual effects. that are very distracting.

im not familier with index, but can you limit the fps in steamvr to match the games 90 fps output....i believe index is 120 or 144....
