if you're not a fan of classic music, just consider disc 2 is a bonus disc. If you love classical music, then its awesome, just ignore the "its by Nightwish" bit, problem solved.
Thank you for the review, I totally agree with your thoughts about the CD1. I love it. Some songs requires multiple listening bc of the complexity, but after I have become a fan all of them. Procession was a little boring for me too, but if you listen Floor storytelling voice the emotions will come through for sure. :) I just thinking on the tour what epic starting would be the song Music (how somebody on Earth think of writing a song about how man and music met? Its just... fabulous.) and finish the live show with Endlessness. About the CD2. I like it too. I don't listen every day, but I like classical music, so I always have goosebumps, especially in the end, Ad Astra, when Floor smooth voice appear :)
I think the last classical parts sounds fantastic. You said there is no singing in it, but there are talk and vocalising and chorus. I'm glad they made that, it will probably be played a lot at my home.
Just about my thoughts after two listening. CD 1 is almost a Masterpiece. So much variety and great musicianship from all involved. The CD 2 is a tricky one. It's beautiful and has it's moments but... They were quite clever although to make it double album, so we have the first great disc to heavy use and the second disc to occasional calming use. That's what I see it. Great review and greetings from Finland!
I love this album. This is top notch Nightwish material and it'll be on repeat for a long time for me. I think Disk 2 was more for orchestral nerds like me who liked the Imaginaerum soundtrack etc
I was a big fan of this album. I love the whole folky almost tribal feel. I do agree with you about the second disk. I was really hoping for something like Greatest Show On Earth or like you said, a Dream Theater epic. But yeah, disk one is absolutely amazing! I'm still fairly new to Nightwish, but this is by far my favorite from them so far. My favorite song off the album is between Noise, Tribal and Endlessness. Noise was actually the first Nightwish song I heard, and that got me hyped for this album! I love the heaviness of Tribal, and the drumming is incredible! It almost feels like Lateralus era TOOL. And Endlessness is also really heavy and melodic too. I love the interplay between the two vocalists. I hope they keep some of that kind of stuff in the future.
I haven't really liked the direction Nightwish has gone with Floor. Besides a few songs here and there, their last two albums have been lackluster. It's such a shame cause at one point Nightwish was my favorite band of all time.
I don't know if it's necessarily just Floor though, because for me it feels more like since Troy joined the band they've slowly been losing touch with the edge they had before DPP (still loved that an Imaginaerum, but still), now it's more like evo-eco-symphonic metal... maybe the next one will go back to symphonic metal and a bit more fantasy kind of like what they play now, but combine it with a bit more Oceanborn or Once... imo.
I think procession is outstanding. The lyrics are simply perfect. The weakest song for me is tribal. I expected a heavy song. So I expected floor to sing heavy. But she's bit doing it :/ The album is really great. I was afraid after the weak EFMB disaster. But the progressive songwriting made it so interesting. I hope that's gonna be their way and I hope we dont have to wait another 5 years
It was released on iTunes while I was at work so now I've had a chance to have a few listens I can watch the review! At this stage I tend to agree with you on the various cd1 tracks, though I probably like Procession a bit more. A few more listens at work tonight should sort things out. I love cd2. It's the sort of stuff I'd listen to after a night of raucousness just chill out with. Tuomas must have music constantly boiling around in his mind. I'm happy to listen to it.
Very good album indeed. I agree that Procession is the weakest track, it's catchy and sounds ok, but I've got the feeling that there's something missing there; it's weak if we compare it with the rest of the album, but a nice song anyway. And yes, Shoemaker is one of the best Nightwish songs, which is a lot. Pan is really good too. Tribal is pure energy, I want to listen to it live. And Endlesness is a sort of progessive masterpiece with a great Marco on vocals. As for the Nature part, I really like it. I'd rather have another epic song like The Greatest Show on Earth in its place, but it's relaxing, I like it. Probably it would sound better if you ad images, because it's like a documentary soundtrack
I think my biggest problem with Procession is it builds and builds and never really goes anywhere or gives any sort of payoff. You go through the whole song waiting for something big to go down and it just never does..
Tuomas Holopainen has never even watched GoT and was even surprised to hear that the songs sound "similar", so can people stop comparing these two, please?
My least favorite is who's the heart (I still love it tho) cuz it sounds very much like I want my tears back and I am not a big fan of it. The second CD is good to play when sleeping or reading
I just see cd2 as bonus. The album is cd1 for me. I need some more listens but I really like it ☺️ The songs that stuck out most to me are music and tribal. Pan and Procession did not really grasp my attention. I really need to listen again but this is just first feeling and thought. Good review! ^^
I think my opinion of this album is SPOT on with yours, even down to being bored halfway through the 2nd disc and just giving up. Procession probably is the weakest song on the album; however, it is just BARELY weaker than Harvest for me. Harvest is just too corny. It gets a bit better halfway through but that first half is just so unbearable for me. Other than that my only complaint is there wasn't enough vocals from Marco.
I don't know what to say. To me the album is OK, but not epic or great. It's a bit too experimental, many songs are too long and really begin in their middle section. Even Shoemaker, the track you say it's a "perfect song" is utterly boring for the first three minutes. On the good side, Floor is finally given some piece to actually shine and show her versatilty, the folk vibe is well developed and there are indeed good tracks. Too bad nobody will crave at concerts to hear them when they can have gold songs like those produced from Oceanborn till Imaginaerum. EFMB and this last work are to me a bit disappointing. It looks like Tuomas is trying to find a new sound, a new inspiration... something to avoid copying himself again and again. I understand this and I rationally hope he will finally find what he's looking for... but my heart is sad... I can't deny I miss my old Nightwish, my epic yet powerful and catchy songs. I'm a die hard NW fan, and it's killing me to admit that this is not what I was hoping for this album. After 5 years I was hoping for more... and I'm still thirsty for a new masterpiece.
I will crave at concerts to hear them live again ;) And a lot of other people will too. We are all different, with different opinions and taste of music, and it's totally fine.
@@Questformetal It's not that I don't like it. It's OK, it's recommended for every nightwish fan like me. I just don't think its one of their best album given their history and their potential with Floor and all those super musicians. In the long run this won't be remembered as another "Once" or "Whishmaster". Not even an Imaginaerum. It's an OK album, perfect while we wait for the next masterpiece :)
@@neffscape6353 well, then it will be very easy for Nightwish on the next album and following. Just copy and paste the old stuff and give it a new title.... and end up like AC/DC and co. always repeating themselves. Thats what I call boring. Maybe some people should simply stop listening to their new stuff and quit on them. I mean, I did the same thing with Linkin Park when A thousand suns came out. Consequence... just saying...
This is by far Nightwish weakest release and nothing here tops The Greatest Show on Earth, best song Tribal, this is the first Nightwish album were there isn't any Epic song and Floor once again underused.
remagine I agree. Endless Forms Most Beautiful is much more epic and powerful. The new one sounds like a nice music soundtrack for a sci-fi blockbuster. Tuomas should’ve composed more operatic parts for Floor because her ability has not been flourished yet. Shoemaker’s ending is way too short.
@@realenglishman580 lol NW best song is boring, even Tuomas says this is his best song ever composed, nothing on this new album comes close to the Epicness of this song
That commeting tom is somekind of bot. Saying same things in everywhere. No matter if channel is music, tech, movie, history, science, travel, news, cars and etc
For me the new album just sounds very boring all in all. It's good. It's well made... It's just not fun to listen to. Let's not talk about Tuomas's application to Hollywood for a fantasy movie soundtrack that is CD2. There are better composers on youtube for purely orchestral tracks. At least Blind Guardian had the decency to release Legacy of the Dark Lands under an offshoot band name since they knew it was nothing like their regular music and said right out the gate that fans shouldn't expect the usual fare. Also gonna say for now that Legacy of the Dark Lands is way more fun to listen to than Human Nature.
Ryoma Nagare the new album may work really well for a Hollywood blockbuster about Mother Earth, war, mankind, and devastation something. Tuomas has lost his mood of power and become a melancholic old man. There’s no song can beat Last of the wilds, I want my tears back, Storytime, Ghost love score, Last ride of the day, and I don’t compare the new album with Tarja’s old songs. Noise sounds so weak if we compare it to Bye bye beautiful or Shudder before the beautiful.
I feel like Floor's talent is being wasted in nightwish. Tuomas obviously wants to score nature documentaries, so he should go do that and let other people write songs that aren't folky, popy and terrible. Floor doesn't like singing operatically, so what does he do? Write songs with operatic vocals. The only high points, for me, are Floor's vocals and Kai's drumming. Kai is top shelf on this album. Though, this one does make me think EFMB is less terrible than I used to. I was never a nightwish fan and these two albums aren't going to make me one any time soon.
if you're not a fan of classic music, just consider disc 2 is a bonus disc. If you love classical music, then its awesome, just ignore the "its by Nightwish" bit, problem solved.
I like classical music and I thought disc 2 was boring af. The symphony belongs in the songs imo.
