- Today we are taking a look at the Gas Turbine 3 (GT3) from Victory Works, this locomotive is one of the most strange and confusing things that will probably ever be on British rails, so with so much in common we should get along just fine!

The Union Pacific Gas Turbine failed here in the states for the same reason, but ours managed to have a decent service life because at first the turbines were run on Bunker C fuel which was a really thick crude fuel that wasn't used at the time so they still managed to turn a profit until it managed to get refined by the plastics industry and they found some other uses for it driving up costs eventually leading to it's end.
And then we got the centennials.
Starting up that train seems so simple compared to starting a PMDG 737 :P
The reason why the Gas Turbine 3 was extremely inefficient was because if it's absolute lack of aerodynamics.
from what i have read, the GT 3 may have only been intended as a test bed/display piece for the tech. just my thought, but i bet if BR had expressed interest, EE would probably have made something different as a working model.
The boiler thingy is for train heating...

Somebody built a model of GT3, 5 inch gauge I think, with a real gas turbine power plant in it. I saw it some years ago at a model engineering exhibition, and there are videos of it on TH-cam.

Edwardzzzz9 Also, the reason why the signal changed so late is because of complicated signalling thing called "checking" which is used to make sure trains stick to speed limit and such.

main reason it failed was it needed turning and BR was getting rid of turntables so with the lack of cabs at each end it was a waste of time and money

Weirdly no, but they had plans for a GT1 but never did it and since the can't count the next one was a GT3
harrison stewart 18000 and 18001 were built by GWR before nationalisation occured. They were both Gas Turbine locomotives, so when the loco in the video was built, they went for GT3 instead of 18002. 18000 is GT1 and 18001 is GT2, but no officially. Did that make any sense, lol?
