Hey there, cool vid! A little while ago I decompiled all the code regarding how the cattle ranch works (you can read the summary of my work on the ranch traps page of the wolfquest wiki), here’s a couple little fun facts about how it works that you can see happen in the video: - the amount of time it takes for the dog’s barking to alert the rancher is randomized - the rancher always has to wait at least 15 seconds after being alerted before he can shoot (it can be longer, but not more than one minute) - the rock music is a random event :) doesn’t do anything, is just fun - once traps are set, there are always 5~ish placed by the fence hole each night, and 15 total randomized - the rancher is more likely to be in the hunting blinds/watchtowers the more often you come to the ranch - the cows get more aggressive the more often you come to the ranch - the rancher is invisible and chases your wolf; the damage and accuracy of his shots depend on how far he is from you, how fast you’re running, and what your max health stat is Anyway, sorry to infodump, I just love the cattle ranch and think it’s so interesting to see the mechanics in action :) looking forward to see more challenges in the future!
Knowing that the rancher "chases you" absolutely terrifies me now, and thats all i can think about lol and also, i assume that the randomized number of the barking gets lower the more you come to the ranch? same with the mooing?
@@Bryn-b1s late reply, sorry! I was also freaked out when I realized the rancher chases you haha, I was meticulously reading through the code for the rancher originally, and I came across a few lines that I had to re-read a couple times because I realized that it seemed to be talking about the rancher moving towards a destination at a certain speed, and determining the destination via scanning for the player, etc a lot of very technical jargon. I actually couldn’t believe it so I asked someone more fluent in Java to have a look at it and they confirmed that it was code for movement and chasing. Originally I thought this was very strange (and creepy!), it seemed like an abnormal amount of work to put into the rancher when the rancher is invisible. I wondered why they bothered doing all this work on having the rancher chase you with in depth mechanics and not use something more RNG based (especially since the player can’t ever know where the rancher really is). And then I saw the teaser for hellroaring mountain talk about leaving park boundaries and I began to theorize that THAT was why the rancher’s code was so in-depth- they were going to use it for the hunters outside of the park boundaries. When HM released, I took another look at the code and confirmed that yep, the hunters use the same movement code as the rancher. Pretty cool actually!! As for your last question, no, actually! There’s a lot of things that’ll affect the rancher’s tendency to alert the more often you’re at the ranch, but the barking and mooing doesn’t ever really change in terms of chances. It’s usually just that the more you’re there, the more likely the rancher is gonna be in a hunting blind looking for you, and the blinds have a pretty big range. Not to mention he will leave them to follow you if he sees you leave the range of the blind. Sorry, very long response, just something I’m super nerdy about and never get to talk about haha :)
Wolfquest is one of my childhood video games. I stopped playing before the Anniversary release, but I have it in my steam library thanks to me having the original game. Thank you for uploading content about this game and reminding me about the good times 😸❤
Honestly I’m shocked you didn’t run out of calves to hunt! They don’t respawn like elk not even during spring, so the possibility of running out of calves and having to hunt the adults is very real
I learned this the hard way lol. I attempted this challenge, and killed four calves the first night. no more calves for two nights in a row (two nights in a row that i couldve spent killing calves)!
At first I thought it was crazy that you killed 2 calves, because no way you were going to be able to eat both- but I had no idea you could come back later and finish up the carcasses! I guess I just assumed they despawned during the day. Guess that would've of made this challenge impossible, especially with so many pups. Great video, and congrats on the successful challenge! (well if you focus just on that one last pup of course lol)
Man, its probably a miracle that you succeeded! I probably wouldn't have lasted cause Im not so great at the cattle ranch. And every time I go there at night its always bad luck and I can't find any single calf that I can take down without the mama's next to the calf 😭 Id love to do a challenge like this but I don't think it would go well for me, I would probably have to practice before I have pups to even do one T-T
I've never really been brave enough to spend a lot of time at the cattle ranch before, it's really fun to see what the gameplay there is actually like!
A little tip when hunting at ranch: once you find the hole, mark it on your map and call it: EXIT or anything idk :P if u wanna be silly you can name it: RUNNNN or smth like that. So when you’re running from the shots you know where to go in order to escape. Hope this helped!
I have a wolf that I decided to make only eat from the cattle ranch. Like you said, if you have a sense of self preservation, not a good idea. I’m struggling, too scared to open that save because my pups are very hungry because I’ve been too scared to go the the cattle ranch lol
I have a idea for a really hard challenge. Basically, you just combine multiple challenges, and put them all into one game. for example Bunnies only and one hex etc
The player is saying that they wouldn't have killed 2 calves if it weren't for the fact that their pups were so hungry! I'm assuming that calves don't have enough meat on them to feed a whole litter by killing just one :) I hope this helps!
This is probably bad to say but why didn't the devs make it possible to off the dog? It's a weeny, a wolf could easily snap it up and carry it off for food. My partner and I thought it would be a cool mechanic if you could get rid of the dog and everytime you do the farmer gets a bigger/stronger dog. Maybe even multiples at some point? It would be cool considering the fact there are feral dogs in lost river that aren't small weeny dogs, so we know there are other dog models available to use for the concept. Again i dont want to be morbid or anything but i was confused asf when i saw you couldn't bite the dog.

This is so cool!! Knowing the barking to alert time is randomized makes me feel a little more justified in my paranoia LMAO!

I think its kinda funny how the ranchers rather put traps out instead of repairing the damn fence, lol.
You should try surviving by only scavenging carcasses. You can't kill anything, even bunnies
Oo cool idea! Sounds super difficult lol!
I just love that the guardian dog is a dachshund. Love me some dachshund dogs
Poor Waygu, it must've been hard being an only child but, dang, what a trooper!
Nice job on this challenge btw!!

I love this type of content ngl, keep up the great work!
I as just about I say the same thing LOL! I love WolfQuest challenges! ^^

Once I learned calves don’t respawn I was worried I would get through like two nights and be cooked, but I had a bunch left to hunt!
@@juiiiceb0x_ WAIT TGEY DON'T RESPAWN?
I learned this the hard way lol. I attempted this challenge, and killed four calves the first night. no more calves for two nights in a row (two nights in a row that i couldve spent killing calves)!
Ah yes, the “how conservative ranchers think wolves work” challenge.

I practiced beforehand too. A lot of it is just luck and trying over and over. If I was an Ironwolf I would’ve never succeeded LOL!
I've never really been brave enough to spend a lot of time at the cattle ranch before, it's really fun to see what the gameplay there is actually like!
This was a fun watch! I wasn't sure this was possible 😮
Love the video! Super fun to watch. Love the commentary ^^
This challenge is extremely more difficult on multiplayer accelerated. make sure youre on accurate as well for the full experience
Hey you should upload more! I enjoyed this video, really relaxing for me to watch while I also play.
story in the wilderness
I played this game YEEAAARRS ago, and I refuse to hunt at the farm. It was always so scary to me as a kid.
medieval european wolf simulator
very entertaining watch i love the inclusion of the ranch in the game, i cant imagine how long this toook!!
I gotta say that was mighty impressive
oh wow, nice video! gives me underrated yter vibes!
new sub!

Wolfquest? In 2024? That's so cool!
This happened to me but it was because I couldn't find elk and I died too 😭 my mate kept the one pup alive on her own
I have a wolf that I decided to make only eat from the cattle ranch. Like you said, if you have a sense of self preservation, not a good idea. I’m struggling, too scared to open that save because my pups are very hungry because I’ve been too scared to go the the cattle ranch lol
The dogs name is pine cone
ooo super cool!! i have been inspired to try this LOL
I love the idea of that challenge! I wanna try it and I'm going to probably die on the first night😢

Just earned a New sub 👍
Loved the video!! Could you start showing them all grown up at the end of the video?? I want to see how little Wagyu looks like all grown up 😭😭
wagyu objectified reference!!11!
their rancher did not think about how Dachhunds were bred for badger & burrow hunting, not wolf hunting.
This was so stressful to watch oml
GGS!!!
I struggle with 3 pups I can’t imagine six
HIII, why at 2:07 , you said "ohh no, nevermind". srry for asking but i dont have lost river dlc
You can hear a gunshot if you listen close :)
@@caramelcopcat ohhh tysm! :)
Yeah there was a gunshot, the music makes it really hard to hear lol! I don’t know why that one in particular was so quiet xD
Wait, can u attack the farmers guard dog?? Or are they completely invincible?? I’m surprised u didn’t go for them at all lol
Nope you can’t attack them at all, which sucks because I couldn’t definitely beat that thing in a fight..
3:18, Ive watched this video several times, but i can never understand what that means, can someone please elaborate?

so sorry to be this type of person, but what map is this and are you able to get it for free?
I believe that's the new lost river dlc map
@@SCATT3RBRAIN-m4y it’s the lost river m, and it’s a DLC :/ but you can play the 2.7 version for free on wq3?

Wait was the last surviving baby a boy or girl
what difficulty mode were you playing on ?
This was on Challenging
I tried it on Easy and it gave me 7 PUPS. And I failed even though I was on easy-
