My local gun store got these in yesterday. I looked at them this morning. Thought ... naw ... it's a 380. I've recently told myself .... "No more handguns." After watching you video I grabbed my Diamondback 380, jumped in the car and headed for the gun store. Traded it in for the Glock 42. Trading a '"sorta looks like a Glock" for a genuine Glock doesn't really break my "no more handguns" rule. How's that for rationalization?
I recently purchased one of the G42's and I love it. My duty weapon is the G23 in .40 S & W and the little G42 is a great compliment to the G23. Both are Glocks; therefore, there is no "retraining" so to speak. The triggers are the same, the sights are the same; it's a winning combination. At 21 feet I was shooting 1.5 inch groups with re-manufactured ammo, so the accuracy is there. Many of you seem concerned about the perceived lack of stopping power the .380 may have. You shouldn't be. The .380 is not a "long range" cartridge. Statistics have shown that most deadly force encounters are 21 feet (7 yards) or less. At that range the .380, with proper ammunition, is more than effective to stop an aggressor. As far as ammo, let me make a few suggestions: 1) Buffalo Bore's .380 + P 100 grain FN hardcast. This is arguably the most powerful factory load available, penetration would not be an issue even with heavy clothes. 2) Hornady's .380 90 grain XTP cartridge is also a good choice. The XTP bullet has proven itself time and again in real world encounters. 3) Cor Bon's .380 80 grain DPX load is high velocity matched with an all Copper bullet which equals deep penetration. Personally, I've always used Cor Bon ammo for my personal CC ammunition and the 80 grain DPX load is in my G42 right now. My G42 combined with a Versacarry IWB holster plus Cor Bon ammo = piece of mind when I'm out and about with my family. As with ANY firearm - bullet placement - not knockdown power, is the real key to surviving an encounter with a criminal.
I just ordered one of these from my local sporting goods store, it's on layaway, still owe like $250, total price is $419. Can't wait to finally get it out to shoot!
Thank you for this very thorough video. I was carrying an M&P .40 Shield which was hard to conceal for me being small with small hands. Sold me on the. 380 and I love it!
The Glock 42 380 was a much better gun than I anticipated for a half polymer pistol. A little larger frame and grip than most of the other 380's out there which makes it easy for big hands to grip. One can get good groupings at 20 feet (good hallway defense distance). It's not the cheapest 380 but it's by far not the most expensive so would consider it to be a good buy if looking for a good 380 pistol.
I made the Ruger LCP2 mistake and chose it over the Glock 42. The only reason was price, and that is so true about getting what you pay for. The LCP2 stings your hand and recoils much worse that it should, mainly because of the plastic frame. And I had quite a few misfeeds and ejection issues. Some of that was the ammo, some was me, some was the firearm. But the bottom line is I didn't have the confidence and therefore did not carry it. It was a shame too because it was so small and fit in the front pocket very well. The Glock 42 they had also came with the Crimson Trace laser grips which made it like $550 compared to the $289 for the Ruger. No sweat, I treat it as a learning experience.
I have a Walther PPK/S, Ruger LCP, and a Glock 42. The Glock is by far superior, and is the easily the best and most comfortable .380 handgun I've ever fired. The Walther and Ruger have such a snappy recoil that they are just not fun to shoot at all. But, the Glock has almost no recoil at all. It is very soft and a pleasure to shoot. I do still carry the Ruger more often though, only because it's smaller, lighter, and more comfortable to conceal in appendix carry, which is my preferred carry style.
My wife had a LCP 380 and she hated it, the trigger is terrible and it seemed to get worse the more the gun was fired and even with her small hands it was hard for her to get a good grip on the gun, the slide was hard to rack even after it had 300 plus rounds cycled thru the gun and its hard to shoot and even harder to keep on target. She traded in her bodyguard a couple months ago for a G42 and she loves it, its a hoot to shoot and easy to keep on target even when rapid firing, the slide is much easier to rack and its just as easy to carry in her purse or on her hip than the smaller LCP was and the only problem she had was ammo related when she first got the gun, after trying several brands of 90 to 95 grain JHP and FMJ ammunition she settled with the Remington Ultimate Defense 102 grain BJHP and has not had a single failure to feed or eject since changing ammunition
Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC ...I’ve never fired a weapon and I’m scared of just firecrackers, but I’m ready to be able to protect myself. My husband bought me and my daughter this gun over the summer. I haven’t tackled learning to use it yet, but my bro said to watch TH-cam videos first. So, here I am!! I sure hope this is a good “first gun” for me and my daughter (she’s 20). I really want to learn this thing inside and out before I fire it.
The advantage over the Ruger LCP, that you were talking about @ 2:47, is bc the Ruger LCP is a pocket pistol and the 42 is not. The 42 is comparable to the LC380 or the Walther PK380 imo. Despite Glocks claims, I really dont think this is a pocket pistol. It's just too big...
The Glock 42 is the weapon I most commonly suggest for female shooters that are recoil sensitive especially with a tangodown slide racker plate always a necessity
Great review. I see by the way you shoot there is very little snap to it, that's why I carry a 380. I stay on target better than a 9. I do have a G19. I have not seen one yet, but hope to soon. I guess is I will be getting one. Thank you
I just purchased mines last Friday an I love it,so small an concealable and I don’t understand why people say 380 is weak, ain’t nothing weak about that lil wicked round a 380 is unpredictable they are far from weak I got mines for protection not for shooting ballistic gel only real test is in actual combat
The biggest problem here is the lack of 380 ammo on the shelf right now. And like someone else commented when people start getting excited about this gun and buy them, ammo will be even harder to find. The shortage of 380 ammo will get worse, all the more reason to push Glock for a 9 mm version. Most reviews on this pistol have been positive, and unlike most 380s its a soft shooter. Thanks wishse, nice video, thanks for sharing.
fair point... ammo availability is key. I tend to order in case lots or load my own so its not an issue. I too would like this better if it was made in 9mm. But for a .380 it is very nice!
It’s 2019 and came into owning one of these (mfg in 2014 and was new out of the box) and the thing runs great! It’s easily manipulated and easy to get on target and keep it on target. Wouldn’t recommend it as a primary carry (I keep one in my desk at work) but it has its place. Not manny failures either, (1) failure to feed out of roughly 500rounds (defense and target ammo)
Amazed at how many men miss the target market for the G42. It's women. Ruger heard women's complaints about long trigger pull and recoil of the LCP and Ruger responded with the LC380. Glock heard the same complaints and introduced the G42. Have yet to her a woman complain about the G42 even the ones that use Flashbang holsters. Smart move Glock.
Thank you for all your good videos and work. Also thank you for doing the review without crying or moaning about the caliber like just about every other You Tube channel...sure we all would've liked to see a 9mm...but it is what it is. Thanks again from sunny Miami
Another good review. Took a good look at a Glock 42 at my local gunshop last week. Loved how it felt in the hand. Almost bought it but I wanted to save that money for the Remington R51 which comes out next month, I believe...I am really excited about that one. Keep up the great videos!
Love this gun. I do find it hard to aim after 15 yards because of it's small size. Put a red dot on the sucker and now good at 20 to 25 yards. Nice gun to carry.
And a backup! Bud you must really have some serious fire fights in your life. I guess I am lucky. I go to some really nasty places and apart from Viet Nam I never had to shoot anyone don't even carry a gun, though I must admit I have several and like shoot on the weekends (at paper targets).
I like the way the back of the grip is formed as opposed to the other Glocks. With my 17 Gen 4 it cants the front sight a little bit and with the Gen 3 the sights are even, but the middle of the grip feels "shallow" to me. Just having that hump sit higher on the back would feel much better and more secure in my hands in my honest opinion.
Thanks for the comments. The Glock plastic sights can wear, bend or cant. I always replace the plastic sights with quality iron sights. Try that if you haven't done so already.
Just got it never had a Glock I think the slide release is very very stiff compared to anything else I've had. I don't think my wife could pull it but I've been playing with it it may loosen up hopefully.
I love my G42 it's been my Summer EDC for a few summers it's light sure it's slim yes it doesn't hold 18+1 nope but mine holds plenty enough +p to get me outta situations the president couldn't lol so very enjoyable to carry it don't dig pinch print it will go to work when called upon .
II have had my 42 a few months and have made a few changes such as a tungsten guide rod wich gives it even less recoil .. rubber textured grips.. and +2 finger extension.. much better purchase,, so I went from 6 to 8 rounds. cant beat the 42.. and for those who say it doesn't have stopping power.. add some underwood ammo copper... tell you what.. I wouldn't want to be the one who was on the wrong end of this pistol
Love this i got this from having a 19 and it feels much more secure to have it concealed specialy now with spring comming and women clothes are very "tight" and hard to conceal. But this one is no problem at all :)
Yes, the 42 is incredibly compact. I’ve actually found the Glock 48 to be my favorite every day carry pistol. With the shield arms 15 round magazine it gives the same capacity as a Glock 19 but it’s very flat frame allows for greater conceal ability. Thanks for watching I hope you will subscribe to the channel.
I love the size and the trigger of the 42, but I much prefer 9mm. Hopefully Glock has this in the works...Nice job on the review...showed me the important features of the 42.
This is my fourth gun I bought but I guess this is more a pistol. It's the smallest one I have and seems perfect to carry. Can't wait to shoot it. Great video 👍
I wasn't even looking for another gun. Got hands on this at my local range and it feels really good. I tested it out against the m&p shield EZ and the Sig P238 the next day and the G42 won hands down on felt recoil, simplicity and accuracy. Went and bought one immediately. Now I need to hunt for ammo lol.
Your usual excellent video but one that raises a question: why would anyone choose a 380 over a slim 9mm? I like Glock and was waiting for years for a slim, single-stack 9mm from them then realized I had one in the Kahr CW-9 (or CM-9 for those who like a still smaller pistol). Any plans to compare the Glock 42 with a CW-9 or other slim-factor 9mm?
Good question. There are a few of reasons why some may select this over a 9mm. These include, price, weight, recoil management and trigger. This trigger is excellent. I prefer Glock triggers to the Kahr. The Kahr are good but very long and the reset is also very long (all the way out). The Glock's trigger is great. This is a very soft shooting .380 and would be a good option for anyone who is concerned with recoil management.
I almost bought one 2 days ago, but they had a 6 month wait, they let me look at it, told me the price, and everything. Then at the last second when I got out my money, told me there was a long ass wait. I almost cried haha, this Glock is sexy as fuck
It's all about the US single stack, plastic, .380 acp market niche: Ruger LC380, Bersa BP380cc, S&W Bodyguard, etc.etc. Glock wanted a piece of the pie. (not talking about LCP or Kahr p380) In countries where the 9x18/9x17 calibers are the maximum allowed, nobody in their right mind will prefer the G42 over a G28 or a G25. I prefer the Bersa BP380cc or the Ruger LC380. They are the same size as the G42, but out of the box they can hold 8 rounds. instead of the G42's 6 rounds....
Wish Glock would have came out with this long ago... they were late to the smaller pistol game in 380, if they had been early we would probably have this same size pistol in 9mm by now. I am still tempted to buy one with my Fire and EMS discount to try it. Then if they do come out with a 9mm version ill get one of those and hand down the 380. We all have to remember that shoot placement is key not caliber size. I've seen deer run off with several 70 mm slug holes in them because the shot was not placed correctly (center mass is key no matter what size of bullet). I think 380 will work up close but I just prefer a 9mm since I already have other pistol's in that caliber.
They had to be able to make it in the United States because they couldn't import it for other reasons. There are rumors about a similar 9mm in the works, but it's just rumor. I bought my 42 a few weeks ago, found a two round extender from Ghost, and I am headed to the range to try them out. I love the way this gun carries. It weighs only 1 lb with the 6 rd mag fully loaded. Add two more plus one and I have a 9 shot Conceal Carry, with extra mags. For 400.00 I paid at the local gun show, and a free box of ammo, I feel like a king. Great buy and Glock dependable.
Thanks for the great video. I was wondering how the recoil of the g42 compared to the sig p238? Is the glock better? Also how is the reliability going. Have seen a few reports of not feeding some hollow point defensive loads and failure to lock back or premature lock back. Thanks for any input.
I'm from the not so far future, good luck finding ammo for under 1.75 a round. Just paid 65 bucks for 25 rounds of Hornady Defense ammo. Can only find it online here in the good ole state of Missouri.
My dad bought the 42 for my mother originally, however my mother couldn’t action it. I live in a bad neighborhood and had some time shooting it and asked him to sell it to me. Great close quarters defense weapon if you know how to use it.
This is a general question I guess--do you recommend waiting a few months after a gun is introduced in case there are a few yet to be discovered bugs? I'm sure Glock did lots of testing--but you never know.
I have not been able to find one in the wild to fondle yet... That being said, I have no interest in buying one as I don't want to add another caliber in which to buy ammo. Great video, looking forward to the next.
I love glocks, love the size of the G42, I owned a LC9 which is the same size but 9mm the only reason I wouldn't buy the G42 is because I dont like .380's.. so whenever Glock comes out with a 9mm on that size them ill b over it till then naa, thanks...
You are a good shooter. More importantly, thank you for the review. :thumbs up: I already have a G43, and I just ordered a G42 last night. I'm a newbie to Gun Broker and I can see it's going to be a bad habit for me. I bought 3 pistols in 1 week. HELP :-D Normally I like to buy locally, but GB has hard to find items like FDE, green or grey Glocks, Walther PPQ Q5 Match and such.
I must have bought an earlier model. Mine jams on a consistant basis. I have heard that some changes were made to the magazines. Mags are a big cause of failures. Will contact Glock i guess.
+Scott Crafton Tahnks for the question. I can't answer it without a bunch more information. What is the intended purpose of the gun for your daughter? How will it be stored and or carried? What is her level of training and commitment to practice? Are there children around her or in her house? I am a big fan of Glocks as they have served me well for 2 plus decades. You might want to look at the Glock 43 9mm as well as the G42. My EDC is the S&W M&P Shield 9mm. I like the ergonomics more than the Glock. But would feel well served by any Glock Pistol. If your daughter is not fully proficient on handguns, I would suggest a few things. Have her practice with a full sized .22 pistol. Ruger 22 /45 is a good low cost option. Get her some formal training in safety NRA basic pistol class is a good one, and then to defensive pistol applications 2) Then transition the training to to a full sized 9mm (G17 or G19 or M&P). This will allow her to master technique and gain confidence. Once that is done, she can start training on the compact G42 or 43. Remember smaller guns are typically more difficult to shoot than their full size counterparts.
Hey Seth. Awesome video as usual. I'm always skeptical of the concealability larger "pocket" guns like the LC9 and the Shield. How does the G42 compare in size to a J-Frame and a Shield. FYI, I pocket carry a 642 but I carry my Shield IWB.
Ed, I simply don’t recall. It was standard ball ammunition. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the specific brand. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I hope you will subscribe to the channel and share it with friends and family.
If I'm in the market for a low capacity single stack micro pistol I will not be looking at a .380. It will be a LC9 or XDS 9mm at least. People who would otherwise never look at a .380 pocket gun now flock to the 42 in awe of it. I just don't understand the hype. Just an honest opinion from a "Glock fanboy."
Thanks for your comment. As alternates to the two guns you mentioned, I would suggest the S&W M&P Shield or Sig 938. Frankly, the LC9 has one of the worst triggers of any gun I have shot. The Glock 42 is a nice gun and when Glock makes a 9mm single stack version it will give all others a real run in this segment of the market.
Hey it's cool I ment when the slide is released and dropped with out holding the slide back if that makes any sense? It's something I was always taught at my range to help prevent ware and tear
@@cyco781loco1 Thanks for your reply. Think about what the slide is doing as a round is fired, especially in full recoil...that is far more abusive what what you're describing. I don;t belive what you saw in the video will cause more "wear" on the slide, frame or parts. I've put over 50,000 rounds through a Gen 2 G19 and done double that about of dry practice and dry stoppage clearance drills. So the slide has been cycled far more than most. That G19 is running great, no problems or wear. In my years of teaching and training, I've never advocated being gentle or trying to prevent wear with a gun. Obviously do what you're comfortable with...Thanks again for watching and engaging. I really appreciate it.
Glock 42 is a nice CCW, but only thing is a pain is finding the right ammo for the G42 that won't stove pipe/failure to feed the ejection. Be nice if Glock comes out with a 9mm version in shot show 2015.
I’d recommend the Glock 19. Cheaper ammo means more practice and the perfect size for range work and carry. The duty side arm for the FBI. The G 42 is good but the ammo is more expensive. My EDC is a G19 or G48. Hope you’ll subscribe to the channel there are lots of reviews on Glocks and other pistols, shotguns and rifles.
I personally like the G-42 better for it's trigger and similarity to it's full size brethren. That is a personal preference. However, apparently Glock hasn't locked in the G-42 as there are reported performance issues with inconsistent cycling. I did loke the Sig290RS but consider that a Mico Compact vs the G42 which is not as small.
Almost 10 years later and the Glock 42 is still a great option for EDC. Great review!
I agree. Thanks for watching Hope you'll subscribe!

Love my G42... exactly what I was looking for in a pocket or back up to my edc. actually fit my hand unlike tiny .380s. coped it for $380 to boot!
Now if you can afford the ammo you're good to go!
I just ordered one of these from my local sporting goods store, it's on layaway, still owe like $250, total price is $419. Can't wait to finally get it out to shoot!

Great video. Have a shield 9mm that I carry but not nearly enough. Rather carry a smaller gun than no gun at all. The g42 seems like a legit choice.
great job with the rotoscoping or whatever you used. more attention to detail on the video editing than most channels. appreciate the care.
nice looking gun--seems to perform perfectly. I currently have a Sig P-238 and love it--but I may add this Glock to the collection as well.
If you like .380 pistols this is certainly a nice one to add to your collection
This is the perfect concealed carry weapon. Two more years until I can carry one
Two years later you got it ?
Familia rodriguez haha that’s what i was wondering
Familia rodriguez he’ll get at you in 2 more
Yeah I wanna know
Just carry one and hope you don't get caught

And now you have it

I understand from Glock's perspective. If .380 is the hot light carry caliber and you don't have one, you make one.
Joe R i
I got mine yesterday! Thanks for the video!
No manual safety, longer barrel, lighter. Both guns have nice triggers. Last revisions on the g42 is May 2016.
Yes,, Glock 42 is one of the easiest shooting 380's on the market,, excluding the Browning 1911-380,,
And a backup! Bud you must really have some serious fire fights in your life. I guess I am lucky. I go to some really nasty places and apart from Viet Nam I never had to shoot anyone don't even carry a gun, though I must admit I have several and like shoot on the weekends (at paper targets).
You still remind me of my uncle. Great man. Love your videos.
Thanks for watching!
Agree with you. I wouldnt want to be at the business end of a .22 short or pellet gun either.
Awesome review, as always. Any chance of a comparison between the Glock 42 and the Walther PK 380?
I love the size and the trigger of the 42, but I much prefer 9mm. Hopefully Glock has this in the works...Nice job on the review...showed me the important features of the 42.
Put one in my GF's hand last week. Now I have to get her one. She fell in love with the new baby Glock.
Thanks for your concise review. I saw my buddy's today; Now I want one.
Good selection.
Just got mine today ✨‼️ I love it ✨
Great to hear you like it. I think this is a very fine subcompact. 380 pistol. Hope you will subscribe to the channel.
I’m 11 and my brother bought me this for my first gun I love it
Nice gift!
Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC thanks
It's all about the US single stack, plastic, .380 acp market niche: Ruger LC380, Bersa BP380cc, S&W Bodyguard, etc.etc. Glock wanted a piece of the pie. (not talking about LCP or Kahr p380)
In countries where the 9x18/9x17 calibers are the maximum allowed, nobody in their right mind will prefer the G42 over a G28 or a G25.
I prefer the Bersa BP380cc or the Ruger LC380. They are the same size as the G42, but out of the box they can hold 8 rounds. instead of the G42's 6 rounds....
Glock 42 380 ACP Thumbs Up & Good To Go!
I don't even have a drivers license yet and I can shoot dead center 20 yards with this gun, I highly recommend it.
Didn't know the two were mutually exclusive. Nice shootin' Tex!
Can a recoil sensitive Person use it without getting Hurt by the recoil and Is the slide easy to rack.Big thanx for your reply
Not as small as other 380's but does shoot lots better!!! I bet Glock will have this exact size in single stack 9m
Gotta have one.
Thinking of getting it for my girl. That way when she dosnt carry it i will!
Excellent review, as always.
What do you recommend as the best ammo for this gun? For range shooting, and also for home defense? Thank you!!
I like your videos. No bull. I think 9mm might have been a better marketing idea. I'd carry my G26 ankle before I would buy the G42.
Can only find it online here in the good ole state of Missouri.
yep... I started reloading 25 years ago and always try to have a supply of components to be able to load my favorite calibers.
And you thought that 380 ammo was hard to find, just wait until these 42's hit the stores.
for women like myself this is a great gun
Can't wait to get my own!! Rock on.
Great shooting that Glock looks like a real shooter for sure
Hey Gary when are you gonna make another video?
Hopefully this weekend my Friend
Ok thanks man
He has a very good shot
Nice video!
And I really like mine
Great review, I really wanted to see the practical accuracy of the pistol. I think this is a winner!!
You are a damn good shooter. How did you mount that camera to your ear protection if you don't mind me asking?
NH? Where in NH? Great video!
You are a good shooter. More importantly, thank you for the review. :thumbs up:
I already have a G43, and I just ordered a G42 last night. I'm a newbie to Gun Broker and I can see it's going to be a bad habit for me. I bought 3 pistols in 1 week. HELP :-D
Normally I like to buy locally, but GB has hard to find items like FDE, green or grey Glocks, Walther PPQ Q5 Match and such.
Hmmmm, do they make a version capable of taking double stack mags, like the bersa thunder .380plus?
Hey Gary I like the video but how do you compare glock 42 to ruger lc380
I must have bought an earlier model. Mine jams on a consistant basis. I have heard that some changes were made to the magazines. Mags are a big cause of failures. Will contact Glock i guess.
type of ammunition helps. some feed thru without flaw
Thanks for sharing
I want one bad great review my friend
Gonna have to get this for myself 😀😀😀
It's a decent option for EDC.
Oh shit yu were my teacher in CJTS lol keep up Mr. B
Thanks for commenting. Hope you'll subscribe.
Would you recommend the 42 for a 26 year-old female (daughter) as ccw?
+Scott Crafton say scott my daughter has one and she loves it, I got to see it and it is great nice pistol might get one my self for ccw
Good review..
Hey Seth. Awesome video as usual. I'm always skeptical of the concealability larger "pocket" guns like the LC9 and the Shield. How does the G42 compare in size to a J-Frame and a Shield. FYI, I pocket carry a 642 but I carry my Shield IWB.
Is there a way to make the slide come back easier? Besides the break in period, after that.
What ammo were you using? Thanks Ed
Ed, I simply don’t recall. It was standard ball ammunition. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the specific brand.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I hope you will subscribe to the channel and share it with friends and family.
That’s got a lot of recoil even for a .380
It's not bad at all.
I love my glock 42 is it me that just hates when someone drops the slide with holding the slide back first 😂
Thanks for watching... can you be more specific about what you're referring to? The power stroke bothers you or using the slide stop. Thanks!
Why not share what type of ammo your using?
Awesome.
Thank you! Cheers!
I can't wait till this frame is in 9mm :)
I want to buy my first gun. I think it should be a glock. But wich one?
I’d recommend the Glock 19. Cheaper ammo means more practice and the perfect size for range work and carry. The duty side arm for the FBI.
The G 42 is good but the ammo is more expensive.
My EDC is a G19 or G48.
Hope you’ll subscribe to the channel there are lots of reviews on Glocks and other pistols, shotguns and rifles.
GGOTT, how does the G-42 compare to the Sig P290RS?
I personally like the G-42 better for it's trigger and similarity to it's full size brethren. That is a personal preference. However, apparently Glock hasn't locked in the G-42 as there are reported performance issues with inconsistent cycling. I did loke the Sig290RS but consider that a Mico Compact vs the G42 which is not as small.
That Glock look to be a sweet 380, but....
The LCP just plain works and the ease of carry cannot be beat.
Excellent review.
